Police say two fires that broke out in East York, Scarborough are connected
Police are searching for suspects wanted in connection with two arson investigations in East York and Scarborough. (Toronto Police Service) Police say a fire that broke out in Toronto's east end last week is connected to the fire that started at a Scarborough business early Tuesday morning. On May 21, at around 5:20 a.m., police were called to the area of Pape and Fulton avenues to investigate an arson call. Officers allege three suspects broke into a building in the area then set a fire inside before fleeing the scene. They add three people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries as a result. After police investigated further, they said they found the suspects were dropped off somewhere nearby the fire in a dark-coloured SUV before they broke into the building. Suspect photo Police say these suspects are wanted in connection with two fires that broke out in East York and Scarborough this month. (Toronto Police Service) Once inside, police say they used an accelerant to ignite the fire before they ran back toward the SUV. In a release issued on Thursday, police describe the suspects as all wearing dark-coloured clothes, hooded jackets and gloves. They add one suspect had a white stripe going down the side of their pants while another was wearing dark shoes possibly Converse, with white laces. Suspect vehicle An image of the suspect vehicle police described as a newer dark-coloured SUV. (Toronto Police Service) Police say all suspects were carrying red jerry cans. About a week later on Tuesday, at around 3:20 p.m., police were called to the area of Birchmount Road and Vauxhall Drive for reports of another fire. In this incident, a dark-coloured SUV dropped off a lone, male suspect close to the scene, who police describe as wearing all dark clothes and was seen carrying a red jerry can. After he allegedly broke into the building, he used an accelerant to set off the fire and ran away. This time, nobody sustained any physical injuries. Toronto police say two other fires at restaurants in Scarborough last week—both of which are believed to be connected and also being investigated as arson—are not linked to the fires described in Thursday's news release. Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact them at 416-808-5500 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

2 suspects wanted after victim slashed at East York restaurant
Imagses of two suspects wanted in connection with an assault and slashing investigation in East York on May 19. (TPS photos) Police are searching for two suspects following a slashing at a restaurant in Toronto's east end. The incident happened on Monday in East York's Pape Village area, near Pape and Gamble avenues, just north of Cosburn Avenue. Toronto Police Service (TPS) said they were called to that area at about 1:45 p.m. for reports of a stabbing. A media officer previously told CP24 they attended that area after receiving reports of 10 people fighting. In a news release, police say two suspects approached two victims at the establishment and assaulted them, before one of the suspects took out a knife and slashed one of the victims. 'At some point, someone received a cut to the hand and went to the hospital – it was NOT a stab wound,' the media officer said in an email to CP24 on Monday afternoon. The victim went to the hospital with minor injuries, TPS said in a release. The suspects were last seen fleeing eastbound on Gamble. Police describe the first suspect as a male between 35 to 45 years old with a heavy build. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a navy-blue hooded sweater, and black shoes with white soles. The second suspect is a 25- to 35-year-old man with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a navy-blue hooded sweater, dark-coloured shorts, and brown shoes. This investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact TPS at 416-808-5500 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

2-alarm fire in East York sends 3 to hospital
Three people have been hospitalized for smoke inhalation after a two-alarm fire broke out at a multi-purpose building in East York on Wednesday morning. Toronto Fire Services were called to 834 Pape Avenue, south of Mortimer Avenue, just after 5 a.m. for reports of a fire at the building — a squat, two-storey building with a business on the bottom residential space above. Steve Darling, the acting deputy fire chief, said the blaze has been contained. "It's too early to tell what the cause of the fire is," he told reporters at an 11 a.m. news conference at the scene. Paramedics say the three adults who were hospitalized were located in a residence above the business. They were taken to hospital to be treated for minor smoke inhalation. Darling says crews will remain at the scene to check for hotspots.
