Chance meeting leads to successful charity concert

Celtic choral connections between three choirs, born from a meeting at a bowls competition in Westport, Ireland, culminated in a memorable charity concert at St Mary's Church, Tenby. Pembroke Farmers' Club member Ed Morris, a baritone with Pembroke and District Male Voice, initiated this connection. He met a member of Tredagh Singers from Drogheda, a sister of Ed's neighbour, at the competition. 18 months later, the Tredagh Singers joined with the Narberth-based Serendipity Choir and Pembroke choristers at Tenby. The well-supported concert raised more than £3,000 for Prostate Cymru and Pancreatic Cancer UK charities. Each choir was applauded for their individual performances before joining for a finale of 'Calon Lan' and 'You'll Never Walk Alone'. The MC was Brian Harries, chairman of the Pembrokeshire Friends of Prostate Cymru. Juliet Rossiter, the musical director of both Pembrokeshire choirs, conducted 14 individual pieces. The accompanists were Heather Williams (Serendipity) and William Lambert (Pembroke). Gifts were exchanged, with Tredagh chairman Vincent Moore presenting a framed score of 'Calon Lan' and a bottle of local whiskey. In return, Pembroke chairman Huw Morgan gave a print of Barafundle, one of the county's well-known beaches. Both local choirs hope to continue their connection with the Tredagh Singers in the future, both in Wales and Ireland.

Ed Mitchell remembered as 'political genius'

May 31—KINGSTON — Longtime friend Andy Reilly described the late Ed Mitchell succinctly. "Ed Mitchell was a political genius," said Reilly, executive director at the Wyoming Valley Sanitary Authority. "He had an innate ability to understand the mood of the electorate and he knew exactly what they would respond to, which is why he was so successful as a political consultant. And so he was never afraid to tell his clients the truth with regard to how they were being perceived by the public, which is very rare in politics." Mitchell passed away on Thursday at the age of 77, following a short illness. A visit to Mitchell's website, reveals a lot about who he was and just how effective he had been in local, state and national politics. Just take a look at his impressive list of successful campaigns that he handled. "We'll quarterback your team to victory," is the first thing that catches your eye on the website. "Analyzing polling data, gathering research, providing media strategies and advice are among the strengths Edward Mitchell Communications brings to their winning campaign efforts. This is what goes into the compelling ads Ed Mitchell creates and produces. "When it comes to campaign management, political advertising and media relations — there is virtually no task the founder of the company, Ed Mitchell, has not performed successfully." That says it all. One of Mitchell's biggest successes was in his handling of all primary and general election campaigns for former U.S. Rep. Paul Kanjorski — 26 in all, 13 primaries and 13 general elections. Kanjorski said his first encounter with Mitchell was as an opponent — the two were candidates in the 1980 special election to fill the seat formerly held by U.S. Rep. Dan Flood. A third Democrat won the nomination — the late State Sen. Ray Musto, who lost the General Election to Republican Jim Nelligan. I was so impressed by Ed that I had lunch with him after that campaign," Kanjorski said. "I knew if I ever ran again, I wanted Ed on my staff." Mitchell was with Kanjorski for the Nanticoke Congressman's 26 years in the U.S. House of Representatives. "Ed was a dear friend," Kanjorski said. "We all will miss him and his counsel, which was always very worthwhile." It's the same story with Reilly, who said Mitchell was a mentor to him in politics and government. "He helped me in my first foray into politics when, as a young 18-year-old, I ran a successful campaign for Luzerne Borough Council," Reilly said. "He also helped in my subsequent campaigns for Mayor and then County Controller. Ed was always my biggest advocate throughout my career." Reilly went on to say, "But as tough as Ed was in politics, he was the most generous person I ever met. And not only to me, but with restaurant servers, bartenders, delivery people, nurses and caretakers. Ed would routinely hand out gift cards for popular restaurants, stores, and gas stations to people he came across in his daily life. He would also routinely give money or pay bills for those he knew were struggling. And for all his accomplishments in politics, to those who were touched by his generosity, that is what he will be most remembered for." State Rep. Eddie Day Pashinski said Mitchell will certainly be missed, but more so he will never be forgotten. "Ed dedicated decades of his life to the political community, on all levels, federal, state and local," Pashinski said. "Ed understood the importance and necessity of participating in the political world to preserve the voice of the people and to preserve our precious Democracy." Pashinski said all who knew Mitchell will miss his words of wisdom and his diplomatic guidance to foster a win for the people. "I always enjoyed my conversations with Ed and learned a great deal," Pashinski said. "And I suspect he will be looking down from heaven, keeping watch and still guiding some of our words and actions." Former Luzerne County Democratic Chair Kathy Bozinski said Mitchell was a brilliant political strategist and an incredible person. "When I worked in television news, I could always turn to him for clear, insightful analysis of any political story," Bozinski said. "When I became Chair of the Luzerne County Democratic Committee during the chaos of COVID and one of the most volatile presidential campaigns ever, Ed was my mentor and friend." Bozinski said Mitchell was the first to reach out to offer help and sound political advice, which, she said, he always gave straight up — with brutal honesty and no sugar coating. "But on a personal level, he was one of the kindest, most generous and supportive friends I was privileged to have," Bozinski said. For Wilkes-Barre City Mayor Tim Leighton said, "Ed was the best at what he did and loved to do. He was a great mentor to me and many others, but more importantly, he was a true friend. I will miss the calls and text messages from him asking how my family and I are doing. He was a dear friend to many." Family offers memories Mitchell's brother, Alan, a professor at Georgetown University, provided some biography information about his brother: Ed Mitchell was born on Aug. 23, 1947, to Albert and Blanche Mitchell (nee Buczkowski) in Brooklyn, NY. He lived there until 1957, when the family moved to Northeast Pennsylvania. He attended St. Ann's High School in Freeland, from which he graduated in 1964. He graduated from the University of Scranton in 1968 with a degree in Political Science, after serving as Student Body President. He was a member of Alpha Sigma Nu, the Jesuit Honor Society. Upon graduation, he embarked on a 14-year career on Capitol Hill, first working in the office of Congressman Daniel Flood. He served as a legislative assistant to the late Congressman Allard K. Lowenstein (D-NY) and as Administrative Assistant and Press Secretary to Congressman Peter Kostmayer (D-Pa) from 1978-1981. He was also a counselor to Congressman Paul Kanjorski (D-PA) for 26 years. Prior to that, he was the press secretary and communications director for Pennsylvania Gov. Milton J. Shapp. Ed had run for Congress himself twice. In 1981, he began his own political consulting business, Ed Mitchell Communications. In 1987, he returned to the Wyoming Valley, where he served local clients seeking positions in public service. He had a keen interest in the people of the Wyoming Valley and contributed to local charities and causes seeking to alleviate food insufficiency, such as The Commission on Economic Opportunity and the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Regional Food Bank, founded by his close friend, the late Gene Brady. "Ed will be remembered by his family as a loving son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and grand-uncle, who was caring and extraordinarily generous," Alan Mitchell said. "Ed Mitchell will be remembered as a big-hearted man who accomplished extraordinary things in ordinary ways. He never forgot his own humble beginnings in Brooklyn, N.Y., and dedicated his entire life to helping those less fortunate than he was." Alan Mitchell said the McLaughlin Funeral Home is handling all arrangements. Ed Mitchell's clients (Partial Listing) — U.S. Congressman John P. Murtha (PA). — U.S. Congressman Paul E. Ed Sheeran suffers fall live on stage before making tour admission

Ed Sheeran was left red-faced after falling over on stage during the opening night of his Mathematics Tour in Madrid, having wowed fans at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend Ed Sheeran's European tour kicked off on a rather flat note... and that is not referring to his vocals. The Grammy-winning star took a spectacular tumble on stage in front of thousands of fans during his performance in Madrid on Friday night. At 34, Ed has managed to sell out two concerts at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano, which can accommodate over 70,000 fans when filled to capacity. Luckily for Ed's international fans, they can still join in the fun each night thanks to the internet, but unfortunately for the star, this also means his embarrassing moments are immortalised. ‌ Videos taken by those present at the concert show Ed energetically sprinting onto the stage and doing a lap, urging fans to clap before his next song. However, his enthusiasm seemed to get the better of him, resulting in Ed ending up face down on the floor. ‌ Being the professional he is, he quickly got up and started strumming his guitar as if nothing had happened, laughing off the mishap. As fans behind their cameras also giggled, Ed shook his head, launching into his 2017 Divide album hit Castle on the Hill. Responding to clips of the incident, one fan joked on X about the gig: 'He had to be iconic from the start.' Another said: 'He's so cute, hope he's ok.' A third tweeted: 'LOL it's starting well', as a fourth wrote: 'LOL Poor thing, he's excited, leave him alone!' ‌ After his record-breaking gig, Ed shared a video on Instagram where he basked in the applause from the packed stadium, visibly overwhelmed and emotional. His heartfelt caption read: 'First show back for Mathematics in a long time. Honestly I get so low confidence sometimes in the music I put out still, I dunno how to explain it but I feel moments like this remind me how much I love what I do, and how much these songs connect, and how much I appreciate you guys for making me feel this feeling I've felt on stage since I was 11.' 'I love being on the road and sharing these moments with you,' he added. 'Such an incredible night and an incredible feeling, thank you for making me feel so loved Madrid. See you tomorrow x'. ‌ Ed's 2025 Mathematics Tour will see him play in 13 European countries this summer, with the set including his biggest tunes as well as tracks from his upcoming album Play, which lands in September. The hitmaker's popularity is clearly showing no signs of dipping, as he also sent fans wild with a surprise show last weekend. Following rumours of a 'big name' taking to the stage at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend in Liverpool, Ed showed up on the New Music Stage on Saturday afternoon, saying he chose the stage because he'd 'never played it before' and the tent had 'the best energy'. ‌ Ed's set was so popular that access to the tent had to be temporarily restricted as it reached maximum capacity. Also performing at Big Weekend was Stargazing singer Myles Smith, who is supporting Ed on his tour. Ed first burst onto the music scene in 2011 and has gone on to sell over 200million records worldwide. ‌ Speaking recently about his future, he revealed his plans to call it a day after releasing 10 unique studio albums, drawing inspiration from filmmaker Quentin Tarantino. "I wanted to do 10," Ed shared on Jimmy Fallon's talk show, expressing his fascination with Tarantino, who he heard was making 10 films alongside side projects like Grindhouse. Ed's initial series of albums followed a mathematical theme, with titles such as Plus, Multiply, Divide, Subtract, and Equals. Deviating from this pattern, he now plans to include Pause, Fast Forward, Rewind, and Stop - an idea he's harboured since he was 18. In addition to this, the father-of-two, who tied the knot with childhood love Cherry Seaborn in 2019, is also continuously working on a life-spanning album, set to be released posthumously.

"Chucky" Actor Ed Gale Dies at 61

Yara Sameh Ed Gale, best known for playing Chucky, a doll possessed by a serial killer in Child's Play and other infamous 1980s movie characters, has died in Los Angeles. He was 61. His niece Kayse Gale wrote on Facebook, 'It is with a heavy heart and a surprisingly light coffin (see what I did there?) that we announce the sudden passing of our uncle, Ed Gale. Ed Gale has taken his final bow and is now headlining in the afterlife. Ed hitched a ride to California when he was twenty years old, with $41 and a dream, and he never looked back. He lit up the silver screens in cult classic films like Howard the Duck and Chopper Chicks in Zombie Town, earning himself some serious street cred at every con he attended. Which he never stopped bragging about. Ever. 'Over the course of his career he appeared in over 130 movies, TV shows, and commercials. With this wide ranging body of work, he leaves behind legacy full of questionable lighting and amazing one-liners. Ed's favorite role was that of the 'fun uncle.' His love language was sharing his love of the entertainment industry and the magic of Hollywood with his nieces. 'Ed loved 7 eleven hotdogs with disgusting amounts of ketchup. He enjoyed reminiscing about his glory days DJing at the Plainwell roller rink. He hated Bill Maher for no good reason. He delighted in the slow build up of telling a good story, and cheating at cribbage. He had one hell of a laugh, and he will be missed. Rest in love you cranky bastard,' she concluded. Gale went on to wear the devilish doll suit in 'Child's Play 2' and 'Bride of Chucky,' costumed as the possessed doll with the soul of a serial killer. In the TV series 'Land of the Lost,' Gale played the dinosaur Tasha. He had a brief appearance on 'My Name Is Earl' as a carnival performer, and he had a supporting role in the Matthew McConaughey film 'Tiptoes,' which revolved around a family of little people. His other appearances include 'Oh Brother, 'Where Art Thou,' 'Baywatch,' '3rd Rock From the Sun,' 'Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey' and 'Friday the 13th: The Series." Gale was also a familiar face at fan conventions and personal appearances for his films. Born in Plainwell, Mich., he moved to Los Angeles to become an actor and appeared in more than 130 movies, TV shows, and commercials. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks
