Stranger Things 5 Teaser: Can Eleven And Company Avenge Eddie's Death By Killing Vecna?

New Delhi: The unsung heroes of Hawkins have assembled for one last time. If you haven't guessed it already, we are talking about Stranger Things Season 5. On Wednesday, July 16, OTT giant Netflix thrilled fans by dropping the much-awaited teaser of the upcoming and final season. If the teaser gives anything away, it is that the stakes are higher this time, but the gang is not giving up without a fight. The video shows Hawkins' folks still reeling over the death of Eddie Munson, who died in Season 4. The townspeople still blame him for the series of murders, as is evident from the words 'Burn in hell' written on his gravestone. At one point, Jonathan Byers says, 'After what we have been through, this thing – it ties us together forever.' Stranger Things fans must know that the 'thing' in discussion is none other than the monstrous Vecna. With the gate to the Upside Down world now open, it is ready to unleash mass destruction, claiming as many lives as it can. Eleven and her company will stop at no cost to defeat Vecna and win this impossible battle, especially to avenge the death of Eddie Munson. But complicating her mission is the military quarantine imposed by the government. A hunt for Eleven is also ongoing, forcing her back into hiding, but she continues to execute her plans nevertheless. The teaser is replete with heart-stopping moments as well as an emotional rollercoaster ride. Winona Ryder (Joyce Byers), David Harbour (Jim Hopper), Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven), Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas Sinclair), Noah Schnapp (Will Byers), Sadie Sink (Max Mayfield), Natalia Dyer (Nancy Wheeler), Charlie Heaton (Jonathan Byers), Joe Keery (Steve Harrington), Maya Hawke (Robin Buckley) and more return to play pivotal roles in the final war. Stranger Things Season 5 will roll out in three parts: Volume 1 (Episodes 1–4) hits on November 26 this year, Volume 2 (Episodes 5–7) lands on Christmas and the finale (Episode 8) drops on New Year's Eve.

What's That Bombastic Metal Song in the ‘Stranger Things 5' Trailer?

Metallica and the Eddie Munson character might be out of the picture in the fifth and final season of 'Stranger Things,' but judging by the show's latest trailer, released today, heavy metal most definitely is not. Amid now-familiar apocalyptic scenes with the show's cast, we hear a bombastic riff, buttressed by a symphonic arrangement and featuring high-pitched, operatic wailing that is a definitive example of the kind of heavy metal singing often referred to as 'air-raid siren.' More from Variety Roblox Launches New Licensing Platform With Lionsgate, Netflix, Sega and Kodansha as Founding Partners (EXCLUSIVE) Netflix Shares New Details of Philadelphia and Dallas Destinations to Open in Late 2025, Plans Third Venue in Las Vegas David Harbour Loved 'Stranger Things' at the Start but Then Began Asking: 'How Much More Story Is There?... You're Having to Play a Lot of the Same Beat' While the show takes place in the '80s, here they've broken with tradition: The song is one of the most popular tracks by the pioneering hard-rock band Deep Purple, 1970's 'Child in Time' from their pivotal album 'In Rock.' While much of the instrumental backing is apparently new — with lots of strings and synthesizers mostly obscuring the original's organ and guitars — the vocal does indeed appear to be Deep Purple's Ian Gillan, along with brief elements of the band's instrumental work. The song's deafening volume appears to be key to its use, as the trailer opens with the Steve Harrington character (Joe Keery, aka the musician Djo) cueing up a song at the 50,000-watt WSQK radio station, apparently planning to use it as a weapon against the monsters who are gearing up for yet another assault on the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana. Reps for Netflix and Deep Purple did not immediately respond to requests for comment or clarification. 'Child in Time' was one of the early epics of heavy metal, clocking in at nearly ten and a half minutes, with a soft opening (inspired by the song 'Bombay Calling' by the British band It's a Beautiful Day) that builds dramatically in intensity with each verse until the song bursts open with what functions as the chorus: a long, hummed melody that gets louder as Gillan's delivery grows to a full-throated, shrieking wail. The song then segues into a long, progressive-rock-style instrumental section centered around a long solo by guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, before it returns to the quiet section. 'Child in Time,' with its lyrics evoking nuclear war, was first performed publicly by the band in the fall of 1969 and recorded that December, with the album, the band's fourth, being released in June of 1970. Deep Purple's pivotal 1972 live album, 'Made in Japan,' features an even longer version that clocks in at over 12 minutes; the song would be a centerpiece of the band's concerts for the next 25 years, even as the lineup constantly fluctuated. Gillan — whose trademark shriek is also present on the original 'Jesus Christ Superstar' album, in which he played the Jesus character — would become renowned for his sky-scraping wail. Yet the song is no small challenge for the singer, as he admitted to the Spanish radio channel RockFM in 2022. 'I always thought of 'Child in Time' not as a song but more like an Olympic event,' he said, when asked why he stopped performing the track. 'It was so challenging. But when I was young, it was effortless. So we got to the point when I got to about 38 years old, and it just didn't sound right. So I thought, 'Better not to do it badly. Better not to do it.' So it's been the same, and I never looked [back]. 'When I was 38, when I made that decision, I thought, 'My god. I'm nearly halfway through my life now,' and it made me think about the future. Do I want to be a singer for the rest of my life? Well, of course. I must. [But] I don't wanna just be known for this scream, as it was called; I don't wanna be screaming when I'm 80 years old or 70 years old. It's undignified. But here I am, at 77, and I'm still screaming — up to a point. But the control element and the elevation of that note is beyond me, to be honest.' The First ‘Stranger Things 5' Trailer Will Give You Chills

Stranger Things 5 It's here at last. Netflix dropped the first trailer for the fifth and final season of its smash hit Stranger Things today. It's quite a trailer – probably the most epic we've seen from the series. In it, we see the gang in various locations. The military quarantine of Hawkins, Indiana is ongoing. We open on the WSQK radio building where we see Steve increasing the decibel of a broadcast, perhaps in some attempt to counter the forces of the Upside Down. Or reach someone? We get a glimpse of Eddie Munson's grave. Someone has defaced it with the words BURN IN HELL, either in paint or blood. It appears that Dustin is kneeling in front of the grave. Max is still runnin' up that hill in a coma, with Lucas sitting next to her looking depressed. My theory is that she comes out of the coma at the end of Volume I (the season's release is spread across three parts) and she's a more active player for the rest of the season. Of course, we could also see her in the Upside Down. Deep Purple's 'Child In Time' is playing during the trailer. "Sweet child in time / You'll see the line / The line that's drawn between / Good and bad". We also get a glimpse of Karen and Holly Wheeler holding their breath underwater. They appear to be either hiding or perhaps avoiding a fiery blast (water is better for stopping fire than Upside Down monsters). At one point, we get a very brief shot of Eleven flying. She's more and more the superhero every season, though Season 4 did its best to take her powers away for as long as possible. With Vecna still about, and the rift open in Hawkins, it's clear the gang will need her at the height of her power to stand a chance. At one point she's in a wetsuit that looks kind of like a superhero suit. There's a nice little nod to the original Jurassic Park midway through the trailer. We see Lucas holding Max as demodogs prowl through what appears to be the hospital. Someone in a striped uniform is next to them, but it's impossible to tell who that may be. Finally, we get a look at Vecna, seemingly holding back a blast of fire, perhaps from the flamethrowers we saw earlier in the trailer. 'Found you,' he says in his creepy deep voice. Fans have speculated that Will Byers is actually the one throwing a fireball spell at Vecna, but giving Will powers this late in the game feels weird. It's possible Vecna is producing the fire as well. We see the rest of the gang as well, scattered about the trailer: Mike looking freaked out; Jonathan giving a bit of an inspiring monologue – 'After all we've been through, this thing…it ties us all together forever'; Hopper with David Harbour's Thunderbolts beard on full display. 'Wherever this leads,' he says, 'I need you to fight one last time. Let's end this kid,' he says, pulling pins on a pair of grenades. Nancy, Robin, Joyce, et alia all get little moments here. The plot summary for Stranger Things 5 reads: "The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. "But, he has vanished – his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding. "As the anniversary of Will's disappearance approaches, so does a heavy, familiar dread. The final battle is looming – and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they've faced before. To end this nightmare, they'll need everyone – the full party – standing together, one last time." I still maintain that Season 1 was the best and that this entire show could have been pretty much perfect with just one season, but I've enjoyed (to a lesser degree) the rest of the show as well, and it's been fun to get to know all the new characters introduced after Season 1. I'm still a little bitter that they killed off Eddie, however. Either way, it's good that it's finally coming to an end before all these kids are in their 30s. What did you think of the trailer?
