India reached 51 for one at stumps after Ekansh Singh's determined century guided England to 309 on a rain-affected second day of the second Youth Test on Monday. At the close of play, Ayush Mhatre was batting on 20 alongside Vihaan Malhotra on six, with India U-19 trailing by 258 runs. What Happened On Day 2 Only 28.3 overs were possible on Day 2 after overnight and morning rain caused a delayed start, marked by multiple interruptions. Singh, who resumed on 66 after sharing a crucial 90-run sixth wicket stand with skipper Thomas Rew (59) on the opening day, completed a well-deserved century, scoring 117 off 155 balls. The Kent all-rounder added 100 runs with number nine James Minto (46) as England crossed the 300-run mark. Singh hit 14 boundaries and three sixes during his crucial knock. Minto also hit a six and cracked six boundaries in his 89-ball innings. Leg-spinner Naman Pushpak (4/76) broke the partnership by dismissing Minto caught and bowled before removing Alex Green soon after. Singh was the last batter to fall, caught by Rahul Kumar off Malhotra's bowling. In reply, opener Suryavanshi attacked early, hitting a four and two sixes off Green before the bowler had him caught by AM French for a quick-fire 20, reducing India to 37 for one. Rain interrupted play after tea, allowing only 3.1 overs in the final session before stumps were drawn. Brief scores: India U-19: 51 for 1 in 9 overs (Ayush Mhatre 24 not out, Vihaan Malhotra 6 not out; Alex Green 1/34). view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Vaibhav Suryavanshi Continues Stunning Form, Hits Quick Half-Century As India U-19 Take 229-Run Lead

India U19 have taken control of their first Youth Test against England at Beckenham with a commanding 239-run lead. India concluded Day 3 of the Under-19 Test match in Beckenham with a strong 229-run lead, reaching 128/3 in their second innings after dismissing England for 439 at Kent County Cricket Ground, Beckenham. For England, Ekansh Singh led the scores with 59, while Ralphie Albert contributed a solid 50. Among the Indian bowlers, Henil Patel shined with figures of 3/81. The young talent, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, aged just 14, continued to impress with his all-round performance, picking up 2/35, while RS Ambrish also claimed two wickets. England started the day at 230/5. The only wicket to fall in the morning session was that of Thomas Rew, who edged a wide delivery from Suryavanshi behind, leaving England at 338/6 by lunch, still trailing the follow-on mark by 52 runs. Post-lunch, Ekansh Singh fell while trying to leave a delivery from Patel but edged it to the keeper. Albert departed soon after reaching his half-century, nicking Ambrish behind. At that point, England needed seven runs to avoid the follow-on. With the run rate slowing, the pressure built up, but a no-ball from Ambrish followed by a single from Jack Home ensured England didn't have to bat again. Home and James Minto added 48 runs for the ninth wicket, taking the total to 416/8 at tea. Minto fell shortly after the break for 20, caught at square leg by a back-pedaling Maulyarajsinh Chavda. Home was the last to go, caught and bowled by Mohamed Enaan for 40, giving India a 101-run lead. In India's second innings, Suryavanshi started with a thick edge over the slips off Alex Green, followed by a crisp square cut and a straight six back over the bowler's head. His partner, Ayush Mhatre, contributed 32 before being caught by Ben Mayes while attempting a pull off Archie Vaughan. Suryavanshi entertained with his wide array of strokes and scored a fluent 56 off just 44 balls before he mistimed a shot and was caught at mid-off by Ekansh Singh. Vaughan struck again soon after, removing Chavda for 3, thanks to a great catch by Jaydn Denly at midwicket. Vihaan Malhotra remained unbeaten on 34 alongside Abhigyan Kundu, who is yet to get off the mark, as India finished the day firmly in control.
