Seahawks sign final draft pick, TE Elijah Arroyo, to rookie contract
And then there were none. On Friday morning, the Seattle Seahawks finally signed their final pick from the 2025 NFL draft: tight end Elijah Arroyo. This of course comes a day after the team agreed to terms with their other second round pick, safety Nick Emmanwori, who received a historic fully-guaranteed contract. When it was announced Emmanwori would be receiving a fully-guaranteed deal, many assumed Arroyo would be receiving one as well. While his won't be, the former Miami Hurricane weapon will be getting dang near close to one. Despite both players being second round picks, this is a stark reminder of how much money players stand to make as rookies depending on where they are selected. At No. 35 overall, Emmanwori will be making all $11+ million of his standard rookie contract, per Spotrac. Arroyo, picked 15 spots later, will be earning just over half as much as his fellow second round teammate. The Seahawks' training camp officially opens on Wednesday July 23rd, but rookies have already reported to the Virginia Mason Athletic Center. Now that Arroyo is officially signed, he can now join his teammates on the practice field to begin preparations for the 2025 campaign. Seahawks decision to release Noah Fant shows faith in younger players
The Seattle Seahawks made the decision to release veteran tight end Noah Fant on Sunday afternoon. By doing so, general manager John Schneider showed a terrific amount of faith in AJ Barner and Elijah Arroyo. There's officially a youth movement inside Seattle's tight end room. Barner impressed as a rookie, recording 30 receptions for 245 yards and a position-high four touchdowns. The former Michigan standout projects to take another developmental step forward as a sophomore in 2025. Releasing Fant creates opportunities for Barner to be Seattle's go-to tight end this coming season. Arroyo finally signed his rookie contract last week after a weeks-long standoff over guaranteed money, a league-wide problem with second-round picks. He'll now arrive at training camp this week without Fant in his way on the depth chart. It creates space for Arroyo to play a sizable role in Klint Kubiak's offense this season. Arroyo accumulated 35 catches for 590 yards and seven touchdowns at Miami last season. His pro-ready frame measured in at 6-foot-5 and 250 pounds at the NFL combine. The Seahawks were incredibly impressed with him as a prospect throughout the pre-draft process. Expect new starting quarterback Sam Darnold to rely on Barner and Arroyo as his safety nets in the passing game. Last season, Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson recorded 41 receptions for 455 yards in just 10 games with Darnold as his quarterback. Releasing Fant clears the pathway for Barner and Arroyo to be big-time contributors in 2025. Seattle Seahawks Release Former First-Round Pick
We've seen the Seattle Seahawks make a series of changes this offseason. Perhaps none was bigger than trading Geno Smith away so they could sign new starting quarterback Sam Darnold in free agency. Yet, that was just the start of several more roster changes. The Seahawks also added several potentially impactful players in the 2025 NFL Draft. Now, one of the newcomers is pushing one of last year's starters off the roster. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Seahawks have released former first-round pick Noah Fant. After arriving in 2022 via the Russell Wilson trade, Fant went on to start 42 games with the Seahawks. However, now that he's been released, Fant's departure clears the way for Seattle's second-round rookie Elijah Arroyo to see a bigger role. If anything, Arroyo just became the favorite to start for the Seahawks, where he has a chance to have a huge season catching passes from Darnold. The Seahawks also have veteran free agent addition Eric Saubert and 2024 fourth-round pick AJ Barner on the roster. While Seattle may have already seen enough from Arroyo, he'll certainly have his work cut out for him this fall. Meanwhile, it shouldn't take long for the athletic Fant to receive another opportunity. Still just 27 years old, Fant has played for the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks, and now he'll have a chance to find a third team to join. Seahawks release tight end Noah Fant ahead of start of training camp
The Seattle Seahawks released tight end Noah Fant on Sunday ahead of the start of training camp. The 27-year-old Fant spent the past three seasons with the Seahawks after being acquired in the 2022 blockbuster trade that sent quarterback Russell Wilson to Denver. Across his Seattle tenure Fant racked up 130 receptions for 1,400 yards and five touchdowns. Fant was entering the final season of a two-year contract and was due a non-guaranteed salary of 8.49 million this year. The Seahawks will save 8.91 million against the salary cap with the move. In parting ways with Fant, who was a 2019 first-round pick of the Broncos, the Seahawks stable of young tight ends figure to be featured much more prominently in 2025. There's second-year tight end AJ Barner, who caught 30 passes for 245 yards last season, as well as rookie Elijah Arroyo, who the Seahawks selected in the second round this year. Eight-year NFL veteran Eric Saubert also will be in training camp after signing a one-year deal with the Seahawks. Undrafted rookie tight ends Marshall Lang and Nick Kallerup will be on the scene as well.
