Imperial Reports the Safe Return of Workers to Surface at Red Chris Mine

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, July 25, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Imperial Metals Corporation ('Imperial' or the 'Company') (TSX:III) provides an update on the fall of ground incident that had isolated three workers underground at the 30% owned Red Chris mine in northwest British Columbia. Mine operator Newmont announced that at approximately 10:40 pm PST, Kevin Coumbs, Darien Maduke and Jesse Chubaty, three Hy-Tech Drilling workers at the Red Chris Mine, were safely brought to surface following a fall of ground incident. Newmont stated their relief to share that all three individuals are safe, and in good health and spirits. They had consistent access to food, water, and ventilation whilst they remained in place in a refuge chamber underground over the last two days. They are now being supported by medical and wellness teams. Their families have been notified. Imperial is grateful for the safe outcome of the incident and extends it thanks to Newmont and the rescue teams. Background on Rescue Effort from the mine operator At 8:30 pm PST on Thursday, July 24, following around-the-clock efforts, our specialized line-of-sight scoop successfully cleared the fallen debris from the access tunnel. With the area stabilized, the Emergency Response Team advanced across the impacted zone using equipment with an engineered Falling Object Protective System. Upon reaching the refuge chamber, the team found Kevin, Darien, and Jesse in stable condition. Together with the Emergency Response Team, they returned to surface using the same protected equipment. This outcome is the result of tireless collaboration, technical expertise, and above all, safety and care. Four-year-old drowns in pond near Flesherton, Ont.

Ontario Provincial Police have recovered the body of a four-year-old from a pond south of Flesherton. First responders were called to a farm off of Southgate Road 26, in Proton Station, around 7 p.m. Sunday. Police said the child went missing while swimming with family. The body was found in the pond on Monday morning by the OPP's Underwater Search and Recovery Unit. OPP said their Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit, as well as fire and emergency services from Owen Sound, Hanover, and Southgate, assisted with the search.

SANDAKAN: Fire broke out at a wood processing factory owned by Sinora in Batu Sapi, here, affecting the machinery area where sawdust is stored (dust collector), Thursday morning. The incident was reported at 10.24am, and the fire and rescue team arrived at the scene at 10.40am, after traveling some 16km from the Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station. Advertisement According to Acting Station Chief of the Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station, PBKI Alan Ayuh, the fire affected an area measuring 10x15ft, with approximately 20 per cent of the structure damaged. Firefighting operations were swiftly carried out using 200ft of hoses via dividing breeching and two water jets. Water was sourced from the fire engine and nearby fire hydrants, with the factory's Emergency Response Team (ERT) also assisting in the operation. No casualty was reported in the incident. The fire was successfully brought under control by 1pm, and the operation was wrapped up at 1.08pm. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Darryl Dyck Heavily armed police arrested one man early Wednesday morning after gunshots were heard inside a Surrey, B.C., hotel where the suspect had allegedly barricaded himself inside a suite. Police were initially called to check on the well-being of the man who was staying at the hotel located in the 12400 block of King George Boulevard in the city's Bridgeview neighbourhood, the Surrey Police Service said in a news release. Investigators determined the man had a firearm and had barricaded himself inside the unit. Neighbouring hotel suites were evacuated and the Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team was called to the scene. Shortly after midnight, officers heard gunshots 'being fired from inside the suite, with the shots being fired towards the outside,' according to the release. The man was arrested just before 1 a.m. and taken to hospital for evaluation, where he remains in custody, police said Wednesday morning. The investigation into the incident is ongoing. Police did not report any injuries as a result of the shooting.

Search continues for missing individual in Chatham

Chatham-Kent police are searching the area around the Thames River looking for a missing teenage girl. June 23, 2025. (Chris Campbell/CTV News Windsor) Police in Chatham-Kent say a search is underway for a missing person in the area of the Third Street Bridge. In an updated release issued Monday, the Chatham-Kent Police Service said it is actively investigating a report involving a missing individual. The coordinated search effort includes aerial and marine support from both Chatham-Kent police and the Ontario Provincial Police, along with marine assistance from Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue and ground support from the Emergency Response Team. Officers were seen combing the Thames River earlier in the day, and police say the investigation remains ongoing. No additional details have been released, as police cite privacy concerns for those affected. The Chatham-Kent Police Service says it appreciates the community's support and understanding, and will provide updates as appropriate.
