$100M investment to bring hundreds of jobs to Dayton International Airport

The Dayton International Airport is receiving a large investment that could create hundreds of new jobs. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] As reported on News Center 7 at 6:00, Sierra Nevada Corporation will invest almost $100 million into Dayton International Airport. TRENDING STORIES: Man found with over 200 grams of heroin, cocaine during traffic stop Deputies searching for man accused of stealing a package from someone's porch in Greene County Mom attacks 12-year-old daughter inside nature preserve, investigators say The corporation is building two more hangars, in addition to its two existing hangars, at the airport for its federal government contracts. This addition means more planes owned by the government will be landing here. City commissioners recently approved $2 million to help Sierra Nevada Corporation grow at the airport. The company does maintenance in its hangars, updating and improving the federal government's fleet of aircraft, including the largest 747s. 'To access those hangars, you need ramp repairs. A lot of concrete has deteriorated over the years since Emery left about 20 years ago,' Dayton Aviation Director Gil Turner said. Turner added that the work the city does for smooth runways and access brings large benefits. Each of the two new hangars that the corporation is building carries about a $47 million price tag in construction spending. 'They're creating jobs for the community. Each hangar represents about 100 jobs per hangar. So, four hangars, almost 400 jobs that will be created,' Turner said. News Center 7 was there when the corporation dedicated its second hangar last October. Now they hope to have this third hangar done by this October and a fourth completed by Spring 2026. It's bringing this side of the airport back to life, and city leaders hope it might even bring more investments from other companies. 'The Sierra Nevada only occupies about 25% of that ramp, so that's 75% more that could be leased for more development, more hangars could be built on that site,' Turner said. The corporation calls its growing campus in Dayton the Aviation Innovation and Technology Center. [SIGN UP: WHIO-TV Daily Headlines Newsletter]

Bumpus Cove residents want answers for ongoing flooding issue

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) – Tina Presnell said her land in Bumpus Cove has been owned by her family for generations. However, she is looking for answers on how to deal with an ongoing flooding issue. 'The county highway department years ago, they put a culvert in that comes out behind over there on the other lot, and the water comes down on the people,' said Presnell. 'I've called them numerous times and asked them for help, and they say they can't help.' Presnell says flooding on her family's property has gotten worse after Hurricane Helene due to a culvert behind the property. 'There's just nothing to hold anything back,' she said. 'We don't have underbrush. We have high-up trees, but it just won't hold the water.' William Emery is a neighbor to the Presnell family and lives in front of the culvert. He says the flooding he experiences has been the same even before Hurricane Helene. 'I noticed it started flooding five, six years ago,' said Emery. 'It's underwater every time it comes the rain. But it don't never quit running. Since that ditch line hadn't been cleaned out, it's got worse.' Emery said he, too, has contacted the Washington County Highway Department about the culvert, but nothing has been done. 'Somebody is gonna do something, somewhere,' said Presnell. 'It's just got to be fixed.' 'I'd like to get some help,' said Emery. 'It'd be much appreciated.' News Channel 11 did reach out to the Washington County Mayor's Office and the Washington County Highway Department. We did not hear back from the mayor's office before airtime. The highway department previously said the culvert was installed over 40 years ago, and they are not able to work on private property. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Sarr's sizzlers send Crystal Palace soaring into FA Cup final dreamland

It was a pinch me moment for the Crystal Palace supporters who had made it a sea of red and blue in the stand behind Emiliano Martínez's goal. A few minutes earlier, the Aston Villa goalkeeper had been pumping his fists in delight after Jean-Philippe Mateta's penalty miss appeared to have kept his side in the game. Yet already leading through Eberechi Eze's stunning goal in the first half, Palace were not to be denied. Ismaïla Sarr thumped the ball past Martínez from distance after another cheap Villa turnover and the Senegal forward was mobbed by his teammates as Oliver Glasner led a group hug with the substitutes on the bench. Related: Eberechi Eze revs up Crystal Palace to 'go all the way' after making FA Cup final There was still more than half an hour to play at Wembley but Unai Emery's side – without the injured Marcus Rashford to call on – already looked well beaten, the rigours of a long campaign having finally caught up with them potentially. Not that Palace will care one bit as they can now look forward to a third FA Cup final in their history, with Sarr adding his second for good measure in stoppage time to round off a perfect day. Perhaps this time their story will have a happy ending. Villa hadn't been past the fourth round since being thrashed 4-0 by Arsenal in the final a decade ago and have now lost seven of their last nine visits to Wembley. Emery's record against Glasner is even worse: four defeats in five meetings during the last 12 months that culminated with this disappointing display on the biggest stage of all. Villa have played at some of Europe's most imposing arenas already this season during their run to the quarter-finals of the Champions League but were second best throughout and must pick themselves up quickly to stand a chance of returning next season via the Premier League. There was a tangible sense of anticipation before kick-off as both sets of supporters made themselves heard. With Palace contesting their third semi-final in the last nine years, a banner quoting Elvis Presley's 'Can't Help Falling in Love' was the centrepiece behind Dean Henderson's goal. The news that Rashford was missing after picking up what Villa described as 'a knock' at least made Emery's team selection straightforward. Ollie Watkins was back to lead the line as one of three changes from the last-minute defeat against Manchester City in midweek, with Marco Asensio and John McGinn also returning. Palace looked happy to try to hit them on the break, with Boubacar Kamara picking up the game's first booking for hauling down the marauding Mateta. He soon had Tyrick Mitchell for company when he was cautioned for impeding Asensio. Related: Crystal Palace 3-0 Aston Villa: FA Cup semi-final – live reaction The first chance of any note fell to Morgan Rogers when Palace were almost caught napping from a throw-in midday through the first half but the England forward could only direct his shot wide. Palace were incensed when the referee, Anthony Taylor, ruled that Mateta had fouled Ezra Konsa after pinching the ball from the Villa defender and finishing past Martínez. Their anger didn't last long, however, as Sarr forced Pau Torres into a mistake and the Senegal forward laid the ball on the plate for Eze to apply the brilliant curling finish. He has now scored four times since breaking his duck for England against Latvia in March, having previously managed only three all season. Villa tried to respond but found Palace's well-organised defence a tough nut to crack, with Konsa denied by the sprawling Henderson after Watkins had won a corner. Palace should have doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time but somehow Mitchell couldn't make proper contact with his right foot after being picked out by Daniel Muñoz. Emery didn't look amused as he marched down the tunnel and Villa's players were sent out early for the second half. They almost found an equaliser within five minutes of the restart but Henderson pushed McGinn's half-volley wide before producing an even better save to deny Lucas Digne. Palace's next chance came from the spot when Kamara brought down Eze inside the area after a clever pass from Adam Wharton and Anthony Taylor had no hesitation in awarding the penalty. Yet Mateta could not make them pay as his effort clipped the outside of the post and went wide, cueing a loud roar of approval from Martínez. His next act, however, was to pick the ball out of his net after another mistake from Villa allowed Wharton to win back possession. Mateta was the provider as Sarr unleashed an unstoppable shot from outside the area before celebrating in front of his adoring fans. Emery unloaded his bench and Leon Bailey came closest to making it a nervy finish, only for his goalbound effort to deflect off Torres on the ground and over the bar. This was just one of those days for Villa, who could have lost by more had Sarr not fluffed an easy header before finishing off Eddie Nketiah's pass late on to make it three. Palace will rightly head into next month's final feeling that they are a match for anybody.

'Controversy and acrimony of defeat'

Here's my quick assessment of Aston Villa's Premier League season - and a return to my August prediction: 9thEnded the season: 6thAston Villa's fine season ended in the controversy and acrimony of defeat at Manchester United and that disallowed effort from Morgan Rogers, ending their hopes of a second successive season in the Champions League, where they reached the quarter-finals this Emery still produces work that should be the envy of clubs such as Manchester United and Tottenham. He will continue to demand progress under Villa's ambitious was certainly a tinge of disappointment in Villa's conclusion, with the mystifying 'no-show' in the FA Cup semi-final against Crystal Palace at Wembley a big blot - then that final day defeat - but Emery has transformed Villa and, with outstanding youngsters such as Rogers, there is still much to be satisfied I said in August: "Champions League football will put an additional strain on Emery's squad but I fancy top four again."Read my assessments of the other 19 teams here

Arsenal, Spurs and Newcastle tracking £50m star Aston Villa may have to sell

Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle are all interested in Aston Villa's Jacob Ramsey, with a deal possible after the Villains missed out on the Champions League. It was a nightmare final day of the Premier League campaign for Unai Emery's side as they were beaten 2-0 by Manchester United and missed out on the top five on goal difference. Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was sent off before the half-time break but Villa could still have come away with the result they needed but for a refereeing error. Morgan Rogers saw a goal wrongfully ruled out shortly before Amad Diallo put the Red Devils ahead on 76 minutes, then a late Christian Eriksen penalty secured the win at Old Trafford. That has left Aston Villa in the Europa League next season and the amount of revenue they will miss out on after failing to reach the Champions League could force them into sales. TalkSPORT report that Ramsey would be a candidate to be sold as he would represent pure profit from a Profit and Sustainability Rules standpoint. With plenty of Premier League interest in the midfielder, Aston Villa will look to bring in around £50m if they are to sell him. The 23-year-old has already racked up a lot of experience for Villa, making 167 appearances and scoring 17 goals. His progress was hampered by injury last season but he has featured regularly over this campaign, making 45 appearances in all competitions. While clearly rated by Emery and an important member of the Villa squad, Ramsey did only start 19 Premier League games over the season. In contrast, Morgan Rogers has reportedly attracted interest from Chelsea but is considered not for sale after he started 37 top flight games. This is not the first time Ramsey has been linked with a move away from Villa Park, with Newcastle, Tottenham and even Bayern Munich linked with him in January. More Trending Emery spoke out on the speculation, stating that the midfielder is seen as a crucial player in the squad. 'Jacob Ramsey is a very important player here,' Emery said in January. 'He grew up here in the academy and his progression is clearly getting better, his level is increasing a lot and I want to keep him here with us. 'Of course, he starts getting some movements around him, maybe teams involved in the possibility to sign him because he's a player with big, big potential in Aston Villa and England.'
