We shook his hand last week and he went with our best wishes," said the former Leeds United supremo. "He has said all season, 'don't talk to my agent about a contract, I'm going to see what's out there at the end of the season'. "I even asked him last Monday before he went, 'Look, we'll make it clear we would talk to you about a deal if you wanted to stay' and he said, 'I have no interest in staying, not because I don't like it, but because I'm at the stage of my career where I'd like to see what's out there in the broader market'. "The rest of the players we accepted were coming to the end of their contracts, with the exception of Robbie Brady, and we made him an offer. I think we're pretty close to getting that deal done."
