St Andrews takeaway boss on trial over sexual assault allegations

A teenage girl told a court she feared being raped by a St Andrews takeaway boss who she alleges sexually assaulted her. The17-year-old claimed she had been left 'ruined' by the actions of Ugur 'Jack' Emre, owner of the Fife town's Big Boss 'party' restaurant and Little Boss ice-cream shop. Emre, 42, is on trial at Dundee Sheriff Court in connection with alleged sexual assaults, making sexual remarks and offences relating to the sale of alcohol and vapes. Then aged 16, the girl alleged she was attacked by Emre on separate occasions in August 2024. She told the court how she was sitting on the stairs in Little Boss when Emre, who had been sitting in front of her, moved behind her. 'I felt his hands on my shoulders,' the girl told fiscal depute Michael Robertson. 'He was rubbing my shoulders, down my back, on my chest and in my bra. 'He moved them up to my neck and then my face. His fingers were on my lips.' Mr Robertson asked: 'Did Jack say anything during this?' The girl replied: 'He asked if I had ever had sex before. I said no. 'I froze and I couldn't speak. He asked if I felt relaxed. He asked if I was horny. 'I was staring at the wall crying. He asked if I wanted to go downstairs.' When questioned about what she understood that to mean, she told the prosecutor: 'I thought he was going to do something else. 'I thought he was going to rape me.' The teenager described running out of Little Boss before being comforted by a friend and vomiting in the toilet at Big Boss. She alleged Emre grabbed her face and tried to kiss her in a separate incident, which she said 'terrified' her. The court heard claims the teenager discussed her experiences with friends over social media. It was alleged by the girl Emre sexually assaulted her again in Little Boss by trying to kiss her. She said: 'He put his hands on my face. He told me that he wants to be with me. 'He grabbed my face and tried to pull me in. I pushed him off me and said 'no, I'm 16'.' The girl described making a TikTok some time later about Emre's alleged behaviour towards her. Defence counsel Murray Macara KC questioned the discussions the girl had with her friends on social media about Emre. He said in cross-examination: 'Have you and your friends got together to tell a story and tell lies about Jack?' She replied: 'No'. Mr Macara suggested the incident on the stairs 'simply did not happen' and his client did not touch her on the face or body, to which the girl retorted: 'Yes, he did.' Emre, of Market Street, denies five sexual offence charges, five licensing allegations and two allegations relating to working time regulations. The trial before Sheriff Gregor Murray will continue in August.

'I want results & entertaining football'

Hull City owner Acun Ilicali says he wants to have stability at the club but does not view changing managers as a problem. The Tigers, who avoided relegation from the Championship on goal difference this season, sacked Ruben Selles last week, just six months after the Spaniard replaced Tim Walter. "People say consistency is very important and I agree, of course it is good to go along with your coach," he told BBC Radio Humberside. "We have changed too many, that's true. But who can say that changing coaches too much is killing a club?" He added: "Nottingham Forest changed nine coaches in four or five years and now they maybe go to the Champions League, which is my dream." Ilicali sacked Liam Rosenior last May after the East Yorkshire side had finished seventh in the Championship and has also sacked Grant McCann and Shota Arveladze since taking over in January 2022. When the Turkish entrepreneur was asked about criticism that they were becoming like fellow second tier side Watford, who have not started and ended a calendar year with the same manager since 2010, he said: "I wish I was the new Watford because they have been to the Premier League." Rosenior led Strasbourg to a seventh-placed finish in Ligue 1 this season but Ilicali defended his decision to sack him. "We won two home games between January and May so I wanted to change," he said. "I want results and entertaining football. We had to change because we din't have the results and we didn't have entertaining football but some of the fans didn't want to change and I respect that." Ilicali said that he could not be "satisfied" at only just avoiding relegation and with the fact Selles' side did not score two goals from open play in the same game in any of their final eight matches. "Ruben is a fantastic guy and a good coach but at the end of the day we have to be a team together and trust each other and if we don't have the full trust then I don't think it can last," he said. "We're happy we stayed in the league but I'm not happy about the general picture. "I don't make this kind of decision by myself. We have a football team and everyone was in agreement and on the same page." Reports have linked the Tigers with a move for Antalyaspor manager Emre Belozoglu. The former Newcastle midfielder was given a two-and-a-half-month suspended prison sentence for racially abusing Trabzonspor midfielder Didier Zokora in a match against Fenerbahce in 2012. The 44-year-old was also accused of racism three times during his spell in the Premier League between 2005 and 2007. Ilicali, who is also vice-president of Fenerbahce, said he did not believe Emre was racist but would not proceed with looking to appoint him if the fans were against him being hired. "I love my fans and they are very important. If our fans are very against a coach then why should I make them unhappy of course?" he added. "Emre is a candidate but I leave it to their heart. I will not push against them. I am here to make them happy." Ilicali said the club had five candidates and that they hoped to have a new head coach in place in 10 days time.

Fans threaten to boycott as ex-Newcastle star considered for Championship job

Hull City are searching for a new manager after controversially sacking Ruben Selles despite him saving them from relegation to League One, with fans threatening to revolt Hull City fans are threatening to boycott the club if they appoint former Newcastle star Emre Belozoglu as their new boss. The Tigers sacked Ruben Selles on Thursday, despite guiding them to safety having taken over with the club rock bottom of the Championship. Emre has emerged as a surprise contender for the job despite his only management experience being in his native Turkey. He spent two years with İstanbul Başakşehir before a short stint at Ankaragücü and is now in charge of Antalyaspor. ‌ He is yet to win a major honour as a manager, with his current club finishing in the bottom half of the Turkish Super Lig this season. The 44-year-old did have a more exotic playing career, including stints at Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid and Newcastle. ‌ He endured a rocky time at St James' Park, being the subject of three different allegations of racism towards opposition players. The Football Association cleared him in all three incidents. Emre was though handed a suspended prison sentence in 2014 for a racial slur he used against Ivorian midfielder Didier Zokora during a match two years earlier. His sentence was suspended because the court said there were no previous offences and a belief that he would not repeat his behaviour. According to HullLive, the news that Emre has been linked with the vacant job has gone down like a lead balloon among fans. There has been widespread anger on social media towards the links with Emre. And it is claimed 'legions of supporters' have even threatened to boycott games should he be appointed. There are also potential ramifications from sponsors and corporate clients if Emre takes charge. Hull owner Acun Ilicali has held talks with former the former Magpie. He is understood to be one of two leading candidates to become Hull's fifth permanent manager since January 2022. ‌ Owner Ilicali has confirmed that that Emre is in the running. But he has insisted that the former Turkey international is not as close to being appointed as had been claimed. "Emre is not in the front line of our candidates," the owner told BBC Sport. "We have four plus one candidates for our manager's position. There are some from Europe, England, and Emre is one of them. "He's one of the candidates; nothing more than that. He is not [in] front, just at the moment we will make interviews. The main reason [for sacking Selles], if you ask me, our target was never to stay in the league. "We have to be a team, together, and everybody has to trust each other. And if we don't have the full trust of our future, I don't think it can last."
