KL Rahul Missing Daughter, Gets Emotional On Air: 'Was Really Hard To Come Here'

Last Updated: KL Rahul got emotional on camera while speaking about his daughter Evaarah and missing his father duties for the India-England series. Senior India batter KL Rahul got emotional on air while speaking about his newborn daughter, Evaarah, on Friday (July 25) on the sidelines of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Evaarah was born on March 24, when Rahul was on leave during IPL 2025, but he rejoined Delhi Capitals only two days later and then came to England in early June, just days after the tournament was concluded. He has enjoyed a good run in the five-Test series, scoring 421 runs, including two centuries, at an average of 60.14. However, off the field, staying in England without his wife, actress Athiya Shetty, and young family hasn't been easy. He said joining the India 'A' squad for a tour game against England Lions before the Test series was a difficult decision to make, too. 'Yeah, it's a great time in my life for my family," Rahul told former teammate Cheteshwar Pujara on the Sony Sports broadcast. 'I've always loved children. I've always wanted children for a long time. So, made me and my family really really happy. We're in a great place. She's a beautiful little girl. It's brought so much happiness into our lives," he added. 'I have done a little bit (father duties), but unfortunately, two days after she was born, I had to go play the IPL game. And I tried in whatever breaks we got during the IPL to go back for a couple of days and then finish the IPL. It was really hard to take that decision to come here and play that India A game as well because I had not spent any time with her and I knew when I came here, I won't see her for another two months," Rahul said. The tour concludes on August 4 after the final Test and as of now, there's nothing scheduled for India in the month. Rahul said that he's always on the 'baby camera' watching his daughter and is glad to have the support of his family in this time. 'There were some really hard decisions that I've had to make in the last few months. But yeah, I thought that that was the right thing to do for me professionally and my family's been really supportive. My wife was very supportive. So, I came here. So, I haven't seen her and I just keep seeing her pictures and I'm always on the baby camera. Making sure I don't miss anything or any part of her growth. So, it's a difficult thing to do when you're traveling and playing and you miss each day," he said. India are traling the five-Test series 2-1 and are in a precarious position in the fourth Test with England leading by 186 runs at the end of the third day at Old Trafford. view comments First Published: July 25, 2025, 23:41 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. IND vs ENG Test: Anshul Kamboj denies Ben Duckett century for maiden Test wicket

Ben Duckett is dismissed off the bowling of Anshul Kamboj (Photo by) India found a much-needed breakthrough on Day 2 of the fourth Test in Manchester, as debutant Anshul Kamboj picked up his maiden Test wicket, removing England opener Ben Duckett for 94. The 24-year-old pacer from Haryana, who was brought into the squad due to multiple injuries in India's pace unit, made an immediate impact in his first outing at the highest level. Kamboj, on a difficult day for Indian bowlers, dismissed Duckett with a delivery that climbed sharply from a back-of-a-length spot outside off. Duckett, looking to cut, was surprised by the bounce and edged it to substitute wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel. The dismissal came shortly after Ravindra Jadeja had removed Zak Crawley on 84, shifting momentum in India's favour after a dominant opening stand by England. A visibly charged-up Kamboj let out a roar as he celebrated his first Test scalp. With both openers gone, India suddenly found themselves with an opportunity to apply pressure on the new England batters. Kamboj's inclusion was the result of injuries to Nitish Kumar Reddy, Akash Deep, and Arshdeep Singh. Before this, he had been part of the India A squad against England Lions, where he impressed with his seam bowling in a pace attack that featured Mukesh Kumar and Harshit Rana. Though he was initially overlooked for the Test squad, his consistent domestic performances eventually earned him a well-deserved call-up. Anshul Kamboj Joins India Nets After Nitish's Injury | Debut Incoming at Manchester? The young seamer's debut wicket at Old Trafford is not just a personal milestone, but also a timely breakthrough for India as they look to claw their way back in to the 4th Test and ultimately, level the series. England's curious Ashes prep

England have opted against a suite of tour games to prepare for the Ashes and will instead play against themselves in Perth to prepare for November's opening Test. The only official practice match for the tourists in their quest to regain the urn will be against an England A side at Lilac Hill in a three-day red-ball match. Touring teams have long abandoned multiple matches against state teams given the packed nature of the cricket schedule. Last summer India played a single intra-squad match, behind closed doors and amid much secrecy, at the WACA. No media or outside viewers were allowed in, although the public parkland at Lilac Hill won't afford England the same privacy. There is potential for the tourists to play a two-day fixture in Canberra against the Prime Minister's XI in between the first Test and the second match at the Gabba, but that will be the extent of games outside the five-match international series. The news cames as Cricket Australia confirmed the Lions would play three fixtures on their tour of Australia will run a the same time as the Ashes, giving England a larger cohort of player in Australia at the same time. England could also choose to play some unused Test squad members if they are not selected in the XIs for the first two Tests. 'The reciprocal A series against the England Lions is important for Australian cricket giving our players the chance to perform against high calibre opposition,' CA head of cricket operations and scheduling Peter Roach said. 'We're confident this series will complement what should be a fiercely contested Ashes series and have strong benefits for both countries. 'It is a big year of Australia A cricket opportunities with the recently completed series against Sri Lanka A and tour of India in September before the Lions series.' Australian selectors will have four full rounds of Sheffield Shield cricket to get players tuned up for the Ashes, offering the chance for batters to seize an opening spot with Sam Konstas no lock to keep his spot after failing in the West Indies.

Anshul Kamboj Reacts After Making India Debut In Manchester Test: "Can't Express It..."

Indian pacer Anshul Kamboj showed his excitement and humility after being picked in place of injured Akash Deep for the fourth Test against England in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series at Old Trafford in Manchester on Wednesday. 'The feeling is surreal. So much that I can't express it in words. I will just look to do better as much as I can,' said the 24-year-old fast bowler in a video shared by the BCCI, shortly after receiving his Test cap from former India wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta. Just a week ago, Kamboj was training in Karnal with a Dukes ball, hoping that his chance would come soon. When injuries hit India's pace attack ahead of the Manchester Test, the selectors turned to Kamboj — a consistent performer in domestic cricket over the past few seasons. On Wednesday, he became India's 318th Test player, replacing the injured Akash Deep, who is suffering from a groin injury. Kamboj, a right-handed batter and a right-handed medium pacer, first caught the attention of fans and selectors last season during the Ranji Trophy, when he took all 10 wickets in an innings for Haryana against Kerala — a rare achievement in Indian cricket. Since then, he has grown steadily. In 24 first-class matches so far, he has taken 79 wickets and also contributed useful runs down the order. His recent performance for India 'A' against the England Lions further strengthened his case. In a four-day game in Northampton last month, he picked up two wickets in each innings and remained unbeaten on 51 in the second innings, showing calmness and control with both bat and ball. Kamboj, who represented Mumbai Indians in 2025, was part of the Chennai Super Kings squad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, playing under MS Dhoni. He picked up eight wickets in eight matches, but Test cricket has always been his biggest goal.
