Egyptian researchers reveal the first day of Eid al-Adha
Published May 19th, 2025 - 08:41 GMT ALBAWABA - As millions of muslims across the globe await the arrival of Eid al-Adha, an Egyptian astronomical research institute revealed that the crescent moon of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah 1446 AH will be sighted on the dawn of Tuesday, May 27. The research institute adds that the moon will be visible in Cairo's skies for a total of 47 minutes after sunset. Hamas figure in ICU after Gaza airstrike
Shafaq News/ Zakaria Al-Sinwar sustained serious injuries but remains alive, a medical source told Erem News on Sunday. According to the source, Al-Sinwar's vital organs have resumed functioning, and he has been transferred to the intensive care unit at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital. Earlier, Israeli media reported that Al-Sinwar was killed in an airstrike on Al-Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, along with three of his sons. Zakaria Al-Sinwar is a historian and former lecturer at the Islamic University of Gaza, an institution where many Hamas leaders emerged and several academics later took on leadership roles within the movement. His brother Yahya Al-Sinwar, former head of Hamas's political bureau, was killed by Israel in Rafah in October of last year. Their other brother, Mohammed Al-Sinwar, a top commander in Hamas's military wing, was also targeted recently in a tunnel strike, though his fate remains unconfirmed.

Syria's Suwayda forms own army amid security concerns
Shafaq News/ A new military force is being established in Syria's southern Suwayda province, with an official announcement expected in the coming days. The proposed army could be integrated into the Syrian Ministry of Defense if a nationwide agreement is reached. One of the primary conditions for such a deal is 'the elimination of jihadist influence in Syria and the creation of a non-ideological, national military,' according to Erem News. The decision follows recent security threats targeting Suwayda, the agency indicated, noting that volunteering for the new force will be open on an individual basis, with no existing local factions to be absorbed in their current form. 'The key aim behind establishing the army is to move beyond the current factional structure dominating the area.' Suwayda has witnessed multiple armed clashes in recent months involving local and irregular factions, some of which resulted in casualties. Fighting subsided after a local security agreement was reached with Damascus, allowing for the integration of Suwayda-based forces into the Syrian General Security Directorate to oversee local security. While this army is designated exclusively for Suwayda, the concerns of other areas with large Druze populations—including Jaramana, Ashrafiyat Sahnaya, Rif Dimashq, and the villages of Mount Hermon—will be addressed separately, in a manner consistent with their unique geographic and local conditions. Details about these arrangements remain preliminary.

ALBAWABA - With over 900 civilians reported dead due to the ongoing clashes in the Syrian coastal areas and the Latakia Mountains, a child called "Dahab" went viral across social media over claims that she was reportedly killed by Ahmed Al-Sharaa's Syrian security forces. According to Erem News, photos of the child started swarming social media on Saturday with rumors that she was killed due to the ongoing conflict in the country. Fact-checking website, Taakad took to Musk's X (formerly known as Twitter) and wrote, "The claim that this photo is of a Syrian girl named Dahab Munir Alou, and that she is among the victims who died on the Syrian coast in the past hours, is a misleading claim." It stated further that the photo was published on the internet at a different date with the oldest one dating back to three years. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) noted that 39 massacres were committed since the escalation, sparked by attacks by Alawite militants on March 6 against forces of the Syrian Interior and Defense Ministries, fueling brutal killings, field executions, and ethnic cleansing operations which started on March 7.
