Wicked 2 debuts first clip of iconic song in new teaser ahead of trailer release

Wicked fans have been treated to a first tease of iconic song 'For Good' in an exciting new teaser clip. The anticipated second movie instalment of the hit musical, starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, arrives in cinemas this November and audiences don't have long to wait to see the official trailer. Universal Pictures UK revealed that the trailer for Wicked: For Good will drop this Thursday (5 June), sharing a new clip to tease the trailer release. The clip itself saw the Wicked cast appear in character to the tune of the film's namesake title - and one of the musical's beloved songs - 'For Good'. The song plays as a piano instrumental version, with Erivo and Grande's voices heard together for the famous lyric: "I have been changed." Erivo is the first to appear as Elphaba in the clip, followed by Jonathan Bailey's Fiyero, Michelle Yeoh's Madame Morrible and Jeff Goldblum's The Wizard. Related: Ethan Slater stars as Boq, followed by Marissa Bode who plays Elphaba's sister Nessarose Thropp. The clip ends on Grande as Glinda, who waves her wand and the film title appears. It's likely that the Wicked: For Good trailer will drop in the UK in the early hours on Thursday morning, which will work out as Wednesday evening (4 June) in the US. The second movie will see Act II of the musical brought to life on the big screen, with Wicked Part One ending on Cynthia Erivo's acclaimed rendition of 'Defying Gravity' (which coincidentally ends Act I of the musical). Related: 'For Good' is one of many musical numbers fans can look forward to in Part Two, with other anticipated soundtrack songs including 'No Good Dead', 'As Long As You're Mine' and the reprise of 'I'm Not That Girl'. Wicked: For Good will arrive in cinemas on 21 November. Wicked is available to rent now from , , and other digital retailers in the UK. Digital Spy's first print magazine is here! Cynthia Erivo Reveals How She Approached Elphaba Differently in ‘Wicked: For Good': ‘She's Delicious'

After her massive breakthrough as Elphaba in 2024's Wicked, Cynthia Erivo is giving fans a taste of what's to come in the film's final chapter this fall. In her Billboard cover story published Monday (June 2), Erivo teases what fans can expect from her green-skinned heroine in Wicked: For Good, the much-anticipated second part of the film due out this November. 'Elphaba in act one, or film one, it's head and heart … Elphaba in act two is head, sacral,' Erivo tells Billboard Pride editor Stephen Daw, explaining her use of chakras to differentiate Elphaba's transformation across the two films. 'It's grounded. It's really earthy, feet-on-the-ground. She's able to access her rage more.' More from Billboard Cynthia Erivo Opens Up About Her Queerness: 'The More Yourself You Are, The Better Understanding Starts to Happen' From Kosas to Drunk Elephant, These Celeb-Loved Sunscreens Are a Must-Have to Protect Your Skin This Summer Turn Back Time With Cher's Biographical Children's Book Available for Pre-Order Now That change in her gravity-defying character also meant Erivo had to take a different approach to portraying her while filming. 'The scent I wore changed. The makeup changed,' she explains. 'Little shifts that bring you to a more mature version of who Elphaba becomes. And she is delicious in this next one.' The upcoming film will look to replicate the breakout success of its predecessor, which went on to become the highest grossing film adaptation of a musical, earned 10 Oscar nominations (including a best actress nom for Erivo) and scored a No. 2 debut on the Billboard 200 with its soundtrack. 'The cast was like, 'Oh, so it's just in the ether now? People are just listening to it on their way to work at this point?'' Erivo says of the soundtrack's success in particular. 'It's really wonderful.' The interview comes just ahead of the release of Erivo's sophomore LP, I Forgive You (out Friday, June 6 via Verve and Republic Records), which sees the singer exploring uncharted new territory as a performer. As she tells to Billboard, her Wicked co-star Ariana Grande helped connect her with Republic Records' chairwoman and chief creative officer Wendy Goldstein to help make her LP shine. 'Wendy is a very singular human being who just gets it,' she says of meeting Goldstein. 'It was the first time that everything became really clear. To have someone who understands who you are as a musician and a singer and an artist was just a new experience within this space for me as an artist.' Erivo, 38, explained that "it took a really long time" on the Grammys red carpet ahead of the awards show "because I feel very guilty if I miss people on the carpet, so I tried to do every interview and those interviews ran a little bit long." When the actress eventually walked into the Arena in Los Angeles, host Trevor Noah had already begun his monologue. Erivo didn't have time to find her assigned seat—and that's when Swift, 35, stepped in. The "Shake It Off" singer noticed Erivo's situation, waved her over and said, "Just come over here. Sit here," the actress behind Elphaba explained. "So I was like, 'OK,' and then just came and sat next to her and just waited," the Broadway star recounted. As fans remember all too well, Swift and Erivo then recreated the "holding space" gesture—when grabbed Erivo's finger during an interview with Out. Hopefully, Swifties will have a chance to see the "So High School" singer cause even more "mischief" at awards shows this year. Fans are definitely crossing their fingers that Swift and her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, will finally make their red carpet debut at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards on June 21! ‘Wicked' Star Cynthia Erivo Fires Back at MAGA Hate for Playing Jesus

Wicked star Cynthia Erivo has some thoughts about the MAGA outrage—fueled by Elon Musk—over her casting as Christ in the Hollywood Bowl's production of Jesus Christ Superstar. 'You can't please everyone,' the Tony, Grammy, and Emmy-winner told Billboard in a new interview. 'It is legitimately a three-day performance at the Hollywood Bowl where I get to sing my face off. So hopefully they will come and realize, 'Oh, it's a musical, the gayest place on Earth.'' The show will run August 1-3. Many MAGA fans slammed Erivo's Christ casting as 'blasphemy' on social media when her role was first announced in February. What seemed lost on several critics was the tone of the show itself. The 1971 Andrew Lloyd Webber rock opera has always been a provocative, at-times critical take on Christ's life, that over time became a cult favorite among queer audiences. Musk seemed to have missed that bit of information as well as he chimed in on X with an eyebrow-raised emoji in reply to an X user who wrote, 'Imagine doing this to any other religion' next to Erivo's casting news. Critics with similar complaints flooded Variety's social media post announcing the casting with one user in the replies called Erivo playing Christ 'anti-Christian bigotry' by 'Hollywood.' But Erivo told Billboard, 'Why not?' as she shrugged off naysayers. 'The more yourself you are, the more you are in front of people who don't necessarily understand, the better understanding starts to happen,' she said. As much as she wants to be 'a person you can get positive things from' since 'that is the only way you can balance this stuff,' she couldn't help getting in a jab at Donald Trump for his takeover of the Kennedy Center, where Erivo played some of the most iconic performances of her career. 'I don't know who gains what from that. I hope that it comes back,' she said. 'It's really sad to have to watch this happen to it. The Kennedy Center is supposed to be a space of creativity and art and music for everyone.' That said, assimilating to appease Trump and his 'anti-woke' mob isn't on the star's to-do list, she added. 'I want to encourage people to not decide to just tuck away and start hiding and not being themselves anymore,' she said, 'because that is exactly what they want.'

Cynthia Erivo Responds to Backlash Over Her Jesus Casting in ‘Jesus Christ Superstar' Musical

Cynthia Erivo has responded to the backlash she received for her upcoming lead role in Jesus Christ Superstar at the Hollywood Bowl. After it was announced earlier this year that the Wicked star would be playing Jesus in Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's musical, some conservatives were quick to criticize her for taking the role as a Black queer woman. However, during a recent interview with Billboard, Erivo couldn't help but laugh at the negative response. 'You can't please everyone. It is legitimately a three-day performance at the Hollywood Bowl where I get to sing my face off. So hopefully they will come and realize, 'Oh, it's a musical, the gayest place on Earth.'' The actress will take to the stage at the famed Hollywood venue from Aug. 1-3, alongside Adam Lambert, who is set to play Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar. The musical is a rock opera that follows the final days of Jesus Christ, leading up to his crucifixion, seen through the eyes of his betrayer, Judas. The musical was initially a concept album before making its Broadway debut in 1971. It has also received several revivals over the years, as well as a film adaptation, directed by Norman Jewison, in 1973. Erivo, who won a Tony for her performance in Broadway's The Color Purple, has previously played Mary Magdalene in Morgan James' all-female version of the musical's concept album.
