Barcelona star responds to club's links with Joan García
A current member of the goalkeeper ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona has this weekend responded to the mounting speculation that Joan García could arrive at the club this summer. It is of course common knowledge across Spain at this point that Barcelona have set their sights firmly on Joan's signature. Advertisement Amid an ongoing search for reinforcements between the posts for next season, the Blaugrana have earmarked the Espanyol standout as the ideal profile for present and future alike. So much so that some sources have gone as far as to point towards an agreement between the parties as being all but imminent. One player for whom Joan's arrival could spell bad news at Barcelona comes in the form of Marc-André ter Stegen. Fresh off a season which saw him sidelined long-term through injury, and questioned on the level of his performances when on the pitch, Ter Stegen has been hotly tipped for a Blaugrana exit this summer, to make room for his Espanyol counterpart. Advertisement Speaking during an exchange with the media this weekend, it therefore came as little surprise when Joan's name was put to the German international himself. Ter Stegen, though, made use of the opportunity to reiterate that he remains fully intent on continuing his Camp Nou adventure next season: 'No one has spoken to me about this… but it doesn't concern me too much. I know that I will be in Barcelona next year. For me the situation has not changed. I'm very excited for next season.' Conor Laird – GSFN

Barcelona may be struggling with financial problems, but they look set to complete their first signing of the summer transfer window in the coming days. It's no secret that Barcelona are very interested in signing goalkeeper Joan Garcia from city rivals Espanyol. Barcelona pushing hard to close Joan Garcia agreement But it is Barcelona that are firmly leading the race to sign Garcia, with Espanyol powerless to stop a deal happening due to the player having a €25m release clause. According to Fabrizio Romano, negotiations on personal terms are said to be at an advanced stage. Advertisement Barcelona are aware of the interest being shown in Garcia from the Premier League, and given that they would be unable to compete financially with the likes of Arsenal, Man City and Newcastle, they are pushing ahead in the hope of reaching an agreement in the next few days. Image via Footboom There is no doubt that Garcia would be a top signing for Barcelona, and given his age, he is more than capable of making the goalkeeper position at the Spotify Camp Nou his own for many years to come. Garcia arrival would see Marc-Andre Ter Stegen moved on And the knock-on effect of his arrival is the La Liga champions are now looking to sell club captain Marc-Andre Ter Stegen. The Germany international is projected to be third-choice goalkeeper next season, behind Garcia and Wojciech Szczesny, so there is a desire to get his mammoth wages off the books. There have been doubts about Ter Stegen's performance levels for some time, and his departure would be welcomed by many supporters. If he does leave, it would also end an era of him being the number one goalkeeper for Barcelona, which he has been for the best part of 10 years.

Arsenal dealt transfer blow as Barcelona agree terms with £21m target
Arsenal are set to lose the race to sign Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia after he agreed terms to sign for Barcelona, according to reports. The Gunners had been keen to sign Garcia to provide competition for David Raya after they failed to complete a deal for the Spaniard last summer. Since then, the 24-year-old has gone on to establish himself as one of the best keepers in La Liga, despite Espanyol narrowly avoiding relegation from the top flight. Garcia registered the most saves of any keeper in the Spanish top flight (146) and he was also awarded the Dani Jarque award, given to Espanyol's player of the season. Such performance have attracted interest from several other Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Aston Villa. But it appears that Garcia's next move will see him stay in Spain, with several reports suggesting that Garcia has agreed terms with Barcelona ahead of a proposed move. The Catalan giants are expected to trigger Garcia's €25 million (£21m) release clause in the coming days to complete a day as quick as possible. Speaking earlier in the week after playing for Catalonia's national side in their 2-0 victory against Costa Rica, Garcia was coy about a potential summer move. 'I'm very calm. Many things are coming up and I want to rest now,' Garcia said. 'These are things that don't depend solely on me. I'm an Espanyol player, if something comes along that seems good to them and to me too, it will be decided. I'm focused on my feelings and those of the people I care about.' More Trending Should Garcia sign for Barcelona, he would provide immediate competition for Wojciech Szczesny and Marc-Andre ter Stegen after the German returned from a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a severe knee injury. Arsenal, meanwhile, will have to resume their search for a second-choice keeper after Neto returned to Bournemouth following his season-long loan. Arteta's side are already closing in on their first summer signing, with Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi set to undergo a medical at the club. The north London side are also making progress in their bid to sign a striker, having reportedly held 'concrete talks' with RB Leipzig over the transfer of Benjamin Sesko.
