Princess Eugenie Shares Rare Glimpse of Son Ernie on His Birthday—& a Hidden Detail Has Royal Fans Buzzing

It's not often the royals give us a glimpse into their personal lives, but for her son Ernest's birthday, Princess Eugenie gave us a sneak peek into the weekend's festivities, and fans are calling him her "mini-me." The doting mom commemorated the birthday on Instagram with a set of adorable pictures featuring Ernest and his four-year-old brother August, alongside Eugenie's husband Jack Brooksbank, with the caption, "Happy Birthday, my darling Ernie. 2 today, and what an incredible two years it's been. Always smiling, always laughing, always giving hugs and hellos, and making everyone happy. My golden boy, we love you!" The comments were equally sweet and supportive, with commenters pointing out a hidden detail: how much the two look alike. "He is the image of you," wrote one fan. From what I can tell, he's your 'mini me,'" wrote another. The pictures included Ernie walking the streets of London with his sunglasses upside down, the family spending time together on walks and Ernie and August playing together with their gardening toys. Princess Eugenie and Brooksbank welcomed Ernest into the family on May 30, 2023, and while he and his brother are largely expected to live a private life outside of the spotlight, he is currently 13th in line to the British throne. Samir Hussein/WireImage/Getty Images In May, the Princess gave an exclusive interview to the Sunday Telegraph, where she spoke about the balance of work and motherhood. "I think I've got a good balance," she told the newspaper, describing Brooksbank as an "amazing husband." She also spoke a bit about giving her bit about giving her boys seeds and gardening tools to hone their outdoor skills, and doing art classes with them on weekends. One thing is for sure: Princess Eugenie seems to enjoy motherhood. Princess Eugenie has been having a busy—and fashion-forward—week, having joined Prince William, Princess Kate and other members of the Royal Family at a Buckingham Palace garden party on Tuesday, May 20. But along with her $20,000 diamond earrings and dotted Rixo dress, she made another stylish appearance on Monday at the Chelsea Flower Show—and this time, sister Princess Beatrice got in on a matching moment. Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson's daughters attended a press day for the annual Royal Horticultural Society event on May 19, and Eugenie documented their sisters' afternoon out on Instagram. In one sweet photo, Beatrice and Eugenie are walking with their backs to the camera with their arms around each other. They both went for blue floral outfits at the flower show, with Eugenie dressed in a white floral-print Rebecca Vallance halter dress and Beatrice wearing the same Vampire's Wife dress she wore while viewing her wedding dress on display. View Deal View Deal Princess Beatrice paired her dress with a navy jacket and matching wedges, while Eugenie accessorized with nude slingbacks, the same $325 tan Flattered clutch she carried on Easter and white sunglasses. "Such a lovely afternoon visiting the @the_rhs Chelsea Flower Show, especially when I get to do it with my sis!" she wrote, adding, "It was fantastic to catch up with @horatiosgarden again and to see their beautiful display." Earlier in May, Eugenie—who had scoliosis surgery as a teenager—visited Horatio's Garden, a charity that supports people with spinal injuries, while wearing a summery green Diane Von Furstenberg maxi dress. View Deal View Deal Eugenie added that she and Beatrice also visited other displays at the Chelsea Flower Show, "including the @dsscotland Garden, the @hospice_uk Garden for Compassion, the Avanade Intelligent Garden and the Cha No Niwa Japanese Tea Garden (who has won garden of the year)." On Tuesday, the youngest York daughter switched from florals to polka dots for a Buckingham Palace garden party. Eugenie wore a v-neck navy dress with white dots by celeb fave Rixo, adding a dazzling pair of sapphire and diamond earrings by Garrard and an Emily London hat. And although Princess Beatrice stayed home for the event, she recently walked the red carpet in a Princess Kate-approved black blazer dress by Self-Portrait.

Princess Beatrice Recycles One of Her Maternity Dresses For Second Red Carpet Appearance in a Week

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Princess Beatrice has had quite the busy—and stylish—two weeks after matching with sister Princess Eugenie in blue florals for the Chelsea Flower Show and attending the FEVO Sports Industry Awards in a black blazer dress on May 15. While Eugenie attended a Buckingham Palace garden party with Prince William, Princess Kate, Zara Tindall, Duchess Sophie and Prince Edward on May 20, Beatrice missed out on the family fun—and there's a solid reason why she skipped the event. Princess Beatrice traveled to NYC to attend the 2025 New York Women in Communications Inc. (NYWICI) Matrix Awards on the same day as the garden party. For the glamorous event, the royal repeated the black velvet Rebecca Vallance dress she wore for the designer's holiday collection launch in October 2024, shortly after she announced her second pregnancy. The bow-trimmed midi dress features short, puffed sleeves and sparkling bows trimming a keyhole cutout at the front, and Beatrice—who gave birth to a daughter, Athena, in February—paired it with classic black pumps. "2025 NYWICI Matrix Awards! We celebrated the theme 'Leading Luminaries' by honoring seven phenomenal women who are lighting the way. ✨," the organization wrote on Instagram, sharing photos of Beatrice with fellow attendees, including Spotify Chief Public Affairs Officer, Dustee Jenkins. Princess Beatrice presented Jenkins with an award at the event, stating, (per People), "When speaking to a friend like Dustee, you are overcome with the joy and the energy that she brings, and I am so honored to be standing here amongst so many incredible women, and I'm so grateful that my wonderful friend is receiving this award because she really deserves it, because she really is the light." Last week, Beatrice also made a statement in a repeat black look, wearing the same Self-Portrait blazer dress that she debuted at Queen Elizabeth's funeral. Princess Kate also wore the same dress, but in white, to a VE Day concert on May 8.

King Charles 'delights' Princess Eugenie with major new role close to her heart

More info Princess Eugenie has shared her joy over a notable new appointment that resonates deeply with King Charles. In a significant announcement, it emerged that Eugenie, the King's niece, has taken on the role of a mentor within The King's Foundation charity's fresh 35 under 35 network that comprises influential change makers. Her Royal Highness visited the Garrison Chapel, a London-based venue connected to the Royal charity, just last week, immersing herself in discussions with some members of this vibrant group. The assembly of 35 under 35 embodies the foundation's mission during its 35th year, pushing for progress in fields dear to the monarch such as sustainability, age-old craftsmanship, and the arts. A keen advocate of contemporary art in her role at Hauser and Wirth gallery, Eugenie expressed anticipation about imparting her expertise in art to the network. Eugenie expressed: "I'm delighted to be working with this group of exceptional young people who have been selected thanks to their outstanding work in areas the King is passionate about," reports the Mirror. On a personal note, she remarked, "Given I recently celebrated my 35th birthday, it's fitting to take part in the charity's 35th anniversary celebrations and share my passion for art with the 35 under 35." Additionally, she lauded these young trailblazers for their exceptional achievements that align with the interests of the King. Other esteemed individuals joining her as mentors include renowned designer Samuel Ross, artist and social media sensation Sophie Tea Art, along with historian Alice Loxton, better known as @history_alice, who boasts millions of followers online. The 35 under 35 list features talents such as woodworker Eli Baxter, embroiderer Angelica Ellis, basketmaker Florence Hamer, stonemason Freya de Lisle, milliner Barnaby Horn, painter Jo Rance, and environmental filmmaker Jack Harries. This week, Eugenie received a special invitation to the Buckingham Palace garden party from the Prince and Princess of Wales, who requested her and Zara Tindall's company. For the second year in a row, William has enlisted his cousins' help in hosting a party for the King. Royal commentator Jennie Bond told the Mirror that it's a breath of fresh air to see younger royals like Eugenie getting involved. She said: "The younger royals are easy in conversation and highly relatable. They're the sort of people you feel you can have a giggle with - and that makes all the inevitable nerves for people attending a royal event quickly disappear into thin air. "And I think this is indeed the way things will happen in future. The cousins are a close and affectionate band of youngish mums and dads with lots in common. I don't think any of them are hankering after an official role as a working royal, but they are more than happy to help out their cousin whenever he asks. "It strikes me as the perfect compromise between expanding the core group of working royals – with the extra cost to taxpayers that would entail – –and having a slimmed down monarchy which is just too small to cope."
