Man, 27, arrested after weapons, drugs found in BMW at Woodlands

A 27-year-old man was arrested after police found weapons, drugs, e-cigarettes and other contraband hidden in a BMW sedan parked at a road junction in Woodlands. The police were alerted by a member of the public who spotted the suspicious vehicle early on Aug 6. A 22-year-old eyewitness who only wanted to be known as Ms Zheng, told Shin Min Daily News that multiple police cars and officers were at the junction of Woodlands Avenue 2 and 5, near Woodlands MRT station, at about 10am. Police officers and vehicles surrounded the scene Photos circulating online showed the white BMW surrounded by five police vehicles. In one image, a bespectacled man believed to be the suspect was seen sitting handcuffed on the ground, with visible tattoos on his legs. A resident who passed by the scene said he saw boxes and other items on the ground. "The man looked very young," he said. "I don't know what happened. I don't know if it's related to Kpods." Police said they were alerted to the incident at about 5.45am. E-cigarettes and smuggled cigarettes were seized from the vehicle and the case has since been referred to the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) and Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA). The drug-related offences are being investigated by the Central Narcotics Bureau. The man was arrested under the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act, as well as the Guns, Explosives and Weapons Control Act.
