Egypt's Amb to EU: There is growing European support for Cairo's role in regional peace
Martyrs in Gaza after continous Israeli bombardment of entire residential blocks - file CAIRO - 29 May 2025: Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, Egypt's Ambassador to the European Union, Belgium, Luxembourg, and NATO, stated that one of the main pillars of Egyptian-European relations is supporting stability and security in the Middle East. He noted that this partnership reflects a special relationship between Egypt and the European Union and demonstrates European interest in listening to the Egyptian vision, leveraging Egypt's role in peacebuilding, and promoting political solutions to crises in the region. Abu Zeid added, in a Zoom interview with journalist Dr. Menna Farouk on Extra News, that European partners are keen to benefit from Egypt's expertise and regional relationships, and to rely on Egyptian diplomatic capabilities to resolve crises. He pointed out that this is clearly evident in the way the European Union deals with the Palestinian issue, demonstrating a strong interest in supporting Egypt's mediation role, addressing the humanitarian situation in Gaza, and listening to the Egyptian vision regarding the need to reach a comprehensive and sustainable solution based on the two-state solution and the protection of Palestinian rights. He continued, noting that Egypt's role is not limited to the Palestinian issue, but also includes contributing to addressing other regional situations, such as those in Sudan, Syria, and the Red Sea. He pointed out that the European Union listens to Egyptian opinion and takes into account the advice it offers in developing its collective position, despite the fact that the decision-making process within the EU is extremely complex, as it consists of 27 member states and includes multiple institutions such as the European Council, the European Commission, and the European Parliament. He emphasized that the ability of Egyptian diplomacy to reach these institutions and persuade them of various positions has contributed to pushing the European Union to adopt honorable positions that support international law and call for comprehensive and sustainable solutions to regional issues, especially the Palestinian issue. He emphasized that these positions do not come out of nowhere, but rather are the result of significant diplomatic efforts undertaken by the Egyptian state.

Egypt possesses 30 natural reserves on 15% of its land area: Environment Minister
File- Egypt has recorded flocks of white storks in the natural reserves of South Sinai- press photo CAIRO – 22 May 2025: On the International Day for Biological Diversity, observed annually on May 22, Egyptian Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad stated that Egypt has 30 natural reserves covering 15 percent of its land area. Fouad pointed out that 13 of these have been developed for ecotourism, offering activities such as diving and mountaineering. In comments to Extra News, the minister added that Egypt has taken serious steps toward preserving biodiversity, which means maintaining the natural balance between land, sea, plants, and living organisms. The minister said that some Egyptian reserves, such as Wadi El-Hitan and Ras Mohammed, have joined the IUCN Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas. Egypt plays a leading role in implementing the international agreement to increase the percentage of protected areas globally to 30 percent by 2030, which is consistent with Egypt's recently launched National Biodiversity Plan, Minister Fouad continued. International Cooperation on Biosphere Protection On May 14, 2025, Fouad, along with Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour and Chair of the Egyptian National Commission for UNESCO, held a meeting with Director of the UNESCO Regional Office in Cairo, Nuria Sanz, and the accompanying delegation from the organization's regional office. The meeting discussed possible means of cooperation to support the activities of The Man and the Biosphere (MAB) Programme of UNESCO, and aimed to strengthen the partnership between the two parties, which will contribute to the conservation of natural resources, the protection of biological and cultural diversity, and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. Infrastructure and Ecotourism Development The Environment Ministry has worked to re-introduce nature reserves by developing the reserves' infrastructure, including roads, administrative buildings, and information centers, said Minister Fouad in a meeting with representatives of the Marine Environment Protection Association on April 30, 2025. She added that 93 trained environmental supervisors have been appointed across the Red Sea and South Sinai reserves. Efforts have also been made to promote the reserves and create investment opportunities in the ecotourism sector, permitting the private sector to invest in locations within natural reserves where activities, such as diving and mountaineering, take place, Minister Fouad stated.

Egypt Becomes Africa's 2nd Largest Producer of Renewable Energy, Focuses on Wind Power
Ahmed Emam Egypt has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the second-largest producer of renewable energy in Africa, particularly in wind energy, according to Extra News. During a live segment on the 'Sawa'ed Masr' program, hosted by Aya Abdelrahman on Extra News, El-Ghannam highlighted the country's rapid progress in renewable energy development, attributing the success to Egypt's strategic geographical location—especially in the Gulf of Suez, one of the world's most active wind corridors. "Today's visit by the Egyptian Prime Minister to several wind power stations in the region underscores the government's ongoing commitment to these critical projects," said El-Ghannam noting that many of these facilities are operated in partnership with both local and international private sector companies. 'Egypt has adopted renewable energy as a strategic path for several reasons,' El-Ghannam said. 'These include low maintenance costs, environmental preservation, and reducing dependence on fossil fuels.' The Gulf of Suez, which was the focus of the Prime Minister's visit, is characterized by wind speeds reaching up to 10 meters per second—an ideal condition that has attracted substantial investor interest. According to El-Ghannam, the government has invested in strong infrastructure to encourage further investment, a fact documented by Extra News during the tour. He added that vast stretches of land from Ain Sokhna to the outskirts of Hurghada are now dotted with wind farms, reflecting Egypt's growing ambition to lead in the field of clean energy. Egypt has advanced five positions in Africa's solar energy rankings, achieving second place with an installed capacity of 707 megawatts (MW) by the conclusion of 2024, as reported by the Solar Energy Industry Association in Africa. South Africa holds the top position with 1,235 MW, while Zambia follows in third place with 74.8 MW, according to a report released by the International Energy Agency (IEA) in March. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Lifestyle Pistachio and Raspberry Cheesecake Domes Recipe News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Videos & Features Bouchra Dahlab Crowned Miss Arab World 2025 ..
