A change from the managerial rollercoaster! Wayne Rooney enjoys a day out at Alton Towers with wife Coleen and his two youngest sons
Wayne Rooney and his wife Coleen took a step back from their working lives to enjoy a day out at Alton Towers with their two youngest sons to celebrate half-time. The former Plymouth Argyle manager is currently without a coaching position, but remains a popular pundit, most recently working with Gary Lineker and Co for the BBC 's coverage of the FA Cup final. Rooney was a genial presence in the punditry line-up, taking a joke from Lineker about his coaching career in good humour during Crystal Palace 's victory against Manchester City. Micah Richards had asked Rooney what he thought Oliver Glasner might discuss at half-time with his Eagles side 1-0 up - only for the former Match of the Day host to crack: 'His teams were never 1-0 up!' Rooney was quick to switch attention back to the game, but will no doubt be mulling his future in the dug-out ahead of next season. However, before the start of preparations for the 2025/26 campaign, Rooney was able to let loose with his family at the popular theme park. Coleen shared pictures of the family day out to her Instagram with the caption: 'Alton Towers is always a great half-term trip! We had a fantastic time as always... thanks for looking after us (Alton Towers)'. But as well as one or two wholesome pictures of the couple with nine-year-old Kit and seven-year-old Cass, Coleen also included pictures of herself and Rooney enjoying the rides, smiling while clinging onto the rollercoasters for dear life. Rooney managed to crack a smile throughout - even if his grimace couldn't match his wife's beaming grin - perhaps finding the twists and turns of the rollercoasters at the amusement park child's play after a spin on the managerial merry-go-round last season. Rooney started the season as manager of the Championship side but by the mid-autumn was imperiled in a battle to avoid relegation. The former Manchester United great was eventually sacked on New Year's Eve and replaced by Miron Muslic. Coleen, by contrast, has enjoyed a career resurgence, winning hearts as a runner-up on last year's iteration of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! The influencer was also able to share her sense of 'relief' after Rebekah Vardy was ordered to pay her a £1.4million settlement following their years-long Wagatha Christie legal battle. Breaking her silence at the time, Coleen insisted that 'time and money should have been put to better use' in a scathing public message. She wrote: 'The ruling yesterday in my favour finally brings this claim to an end, it's a relief and brings closure for my family and I. 'Throughout this long process, I am grateful that the judgements have consistently gone my way. 'However, as I have always maintained this claim did not need to be made or run for as long as it did. 'The time and money should have been put to better use. 'I want to thank my legal representatives, management, friends and family for their guidance and constant support. 'Thanks also to the public and many well wishers who have been in touch with such kind messages. 'This episode is not something I ever wanted in my life however I am thankful for the way my family and team have dealt with it. We look forward to moving on with our lives.' Coleen must also pay Vardy a total of £135,097.50 in costs under the terms of court orders from 2024, which will be set off against what Rebekah must pay.

Crystal Palace ‘could be THROWN OUT of Europa League' as owners jet in for emergency Uefa summit
CRYSTAL PALACE could be banned from playing in the Europa League next season, according to reports. The Eagles qualified for Europe by winning the FA Cup. 2 2 But they could be prevented from participating in the Europa League because of rules over multi-club ownership. Co-owner John Textor, who has a 43 per cent stake in Palace, owns French club Lyon, who also qualified for the Europa League. Uefa forbids clubs with the same owners from competing in the same competitions. Unfortunately for Palace that could mean they will not be allowed to drop into the Conference League either, as Textor has a stake in Danish side Bronby. Now Crystal Palace chiefs are set to meet with Uefa where they hope to iron out any issues.

Oliver Glasner stalling on new Crystal Palace contract after transfer woes with deal up in just 12 months
CRYSTAL PALACE boss Oliver Glasner will hold off signing a new deal at the club until he sees how serious the board is about backing him in the transfer market. The Austrian manager has been a massive success in south London, defying the odds and delivering the club's first major trophy in its history. 3 3 3 His FA Cup success has seen him linked to jobs elsewhere, but he has recently stated that he will remain at the club for the upcoming season. However Glasner is in no rush to commit long-term with just over a year remaining on his current deal. SunSport sources say he wants clear assurances that summer signings will be completed in good time before contract talks progress to the next stage. A Palace insider told SunSport: 'He has a year left on his deal and is just waiting to see how this summer goes before signing a new one. 'He was very critical of last summer, so the onus is on Parish to get deals done in time for pre-season. 'Waiting until the last couple of days to bring in four players wasn't ideal.' Eddie Nketiah, Maxence Lacroix, Matt Turner and Trevoh Chalobah all arrived at the club on transfer deadline day. Something Glasner himself highlighted during his press conference last season: 'It's not a public discussion - I've already mentioned it several times. We could have done better in the transfer window. 'With four signings on deadline day, it's not how you wish a transfer window would work.' Palace's struggles in the transfer window seemed to translate to the pitch, with Glasner's side failing to win any of their first EIGHT Premier League games. 'Raiders of The Selhurst Park' - Bidding war for Guehi and Eze imminient? The Eagles are keen to build on a promising end to the campaign and to hold on to key stars like Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi. Both are attracting interest, Eze from Tottenham and Guehi from Newcastle. SunSport understands Glasner wants serious reinforcements, particularly in midfield and up front, to help Palace climb the table and mount a strong Europa League campaign, following their FA Cup triumph. Talks between Glasner and the board are ongoing, but for now, all eyes are on the transfer window before any pens come out.

Secret Matildas star Sam Kerr was keeping from everyone revealed
Sam Kerr had been trying to keep it under wraps, but the Matildas skipper's big secret has been uncovered. The 31-year-old has suffered a setback on her road to recovery from an ACL injury and has undergone more surgery. While it's believed the latest under the knife operation wasn't related to the torn ACL, the news means football fans will have to wait longer to see her return to the pitch. On Monday the Matildas unveiled their new coach, Joe Montemurro, following an extensive search after Tony Gustavsson stepped down. During his introductory press conference however, Montemurro lifted the lid on Kerr's setback but kept his cards close to the chest on the actual issue. 'Look, I think there was some complications and I've only caught up with the scenario in the last 24 hours,' he told 10 News. 'There was a subsequent intervention, but I do believe she is now back running. 'I think it was something completely different (to the existing knee injury). I think the knee is fine. 'I think there was some other issues, but again I've only been briefed in the last 24 hours.' The news comes after Kerr was spotted in the stands attending the women's A-League Grand Final in May. The Matildas captain opted to watch the contest at AAMI Park in Melbourne alongside the Matildas' chief physiotherapist, instead of supporting her club side Chelsea as they lifted the FA Cup. While her decision raised eyebrows among fans, Montemurro's revelation could explain why Kerr was back in Australia. Montemurro said being appointed Matildas coach – at least until the 2028 Olympics – was the 'honour of a lifetime', but leaving French outfit Lyon, one of the world's most prominent clubs in women's football, after just one season was 'difficult'. 'Lyon's an amazing club. I had an amazing season there, and obviously the situation was to continue the process, but I assessed a few things,' he said. 'I said to myself, and my wife and family, that this is now an exciting cycle for the Matildas, (with) the Asian Cup, (the 2027) World Cup, (the 2028) Olympic Games, and the opportunity was too good, plus there was something inside of me that was just telling me 'it's time'. 'I had to make a hard decision, a very difficult decision, but I believe the decision is the right one. 'This team means so much to so many Australians, and I'm humbled by the opportunity to help shape its next chapter.'
