Ex 2FM star on his new radio gig and landing lead role in hit Broadway musical
Former 2FM star David O'Reilly has opened up about his shock departure – saying he needed to 'spread my wings' after schedule change-ups at the station. In May 2024, David was announced alongside Lottie Ryan as replacement for The 2 Johnnies, who quit their Drivetime show. But another schedule change, meant another change-up again for 2FM stars and David revealed RTE bosses could only offer him a contributor contract at the time. Doireann Garrihy now hosts the slot on Drivetime. David told us: 'They brought in a new schedule, and I wasn't offered a show and that's OK. I was offered a contributor contract, and they were very kind about it. They offered me that and cover [work].' But the actor said he wanted to 'spread my wings' and decided to leave 2FM and join FM104, where he was offered a weekend show alongside comedian Enya Martin, called Gerrup Outta Dat with Enya and David. 'For me, I wanted to spread my wings. It felt like the right time for me to say 'thank you so much, I'm really grateful but it's time to move on'. 'I got an opportunity to work at FM104, and I really couldn't turn it down, getting to work with Enya Martin on Saturday mornings 10am until 1pm. 'I actually cannot tell you how much I love working over there. It is such an amazing building and the people are amazing. 'I was able to take the stuff I learned from 2FM and bring it with me but also learn new stuff from FM104 as well.' David said he feels like he's now living his dream as he juggles being a radio host and an actor. He is set to take on the role of Seymour Krelborn in the Bord Gais' Little Shop Of Horrors. 'It might sound a bit cheesy, I feel like I'm living the dream at the moment. A lot of people ask me 'Do I want to get on daytime?' but I am so content where I am on the radio. 'I get to flex that muscle and act on the side as well. I've just finished a TV series at the moment as well as doing this show at the Bord Gais. 'How amazing I get to do Little Shop of Horrors and Saturday morning radio show. I'm very grateful but down the line, who knows what'll happen or how that show will evolve as well. 'There's also a great culture in there at the moment as well which is fab.' David was speaking at the full cast reveal of Broadway's smash-hit musical Little Shop of Horrors, which is coming to the Bord Gais in Dublin from July 25 until August 9. The star will take on the role of Seymour in the hit musical alongside rising star Jacqueline Brunton as Audrey. This will mark the first full-scale musical theatre production produced in-house by Bord Gais Energy Theatre, in partnership with TheatreworX. Featuring an entirely Irish cast and creative team, the production represents a landmark moment for Irish musical theatre and a bold new chapter for the theatre itself. David is no stranger to the stage, having appeared in the likes of One Man, Two Guvnors, Catherine Tate Live, The Book of Mormon, Grease and Lady Windermere's Fan. Speaking about taking part in the show, David said: 'I was at the launch of the new season last year. I was there as a radio presenter. They announced all these shows, and they announced this. 'The team said they still remember my face. It dropped. It just felt like a full circle moment. The last time I was on stage in Ireland as a kid, it was in Little Shop of Horrors and my audition song to get into theatre school in London was Little Shop of Horrors. 'I emailed straight away wanting to know the audition process and then I met the team and auditioned.' The cast includes former Love/Hate star Johnny Ward as Orin, Game of Thrones star Garry Mountaine as Mr. Mushnik, The Imperium Stone's Jacqueline Brunton as Audrey and Kenneth O'Regan as the voice of Audrey II. Tickets are available to buy now.

Take a look at the dream house broadcaster Muireann O'Connell has bought after falling in love with it. The beautiful period three-bedroom mid-terrace house in a Dublin suburb was on the market for €675,000, but it's likely to have sold for more than €700,000. Ireland AM star Muireann is engaged to Phil Manzor, who is a high flying radio executive, and the current content controller for Dublin radio stations FM104 and Q102. Limerick woman Muireann has previously complained how she struggled to find a place of her own, having rented for years in the Stoneybatter area of the capital. Muireann O'Connell's new home News in 90 Seconds - May 29th She once described her years of house hunting as a 'nightmare', and said that properties the couple bid on had gone for €100,000 over their asking price. The brochure for her new property, the exact location of which we are not revealing, described it as being well-proportioned accommodation over three floors with private front and rear gardens. The house has an open plan kitchen/dining room which opens to the main living room. The back garden has rear access though double gates, a central lawned area, brick built shed and patio area finished with sandstone patio slabs. Muireann (42) shares Limerick connections with Phil as he went to university in her home town. He grew up in Co Offaly and was content and programming director with Today FM for just over a year and a half until he parted ways with the station. Prior to that, he was content director at youth station Spin for four years, and before that held a similar position with a couple of Scottish radio stations. The couple got engaged in Co Kerry in 2021. 'It's a strange thing because, yes, I'm a public figure but I'm just a person who happens to be on the telly,' Muireann once told the Sunday World, when she admitted she didn't want to talk too openly about her fiancé, describing him as her 'housemate'. 'If I was in a different job I think I'd be the exact same way. 'I don't think ever in my entire life, other than with friends, have I talked about who I'm going out with.' Muireann shared pictures on social media from her new home this week. 'The bathroom does need a little bit of work but I think once we get the bathroom done we can then just move in and any other work that needs to be done we'll do while we're here,' she explained, while showing a picture of the bathroom. 'Thank you to the lovely previous owners and to everyone who helped us to get here. Ye are the best. 'We've been terrible at this process. God, house buying has been a slog. I know it's not easy. For anyone going through it, much love. It can be soul destroying. But bloody hell, do I feel good today.'

'Significant growth' in digital revenues at News Corp Irish radio group
Significant growth in digital revenues last year helped to deliver a €968,000 increase in overall revenues to €23.37m at the radio group which operates Cork's 96FM and FM104 in Dublin. New accounts filed by the Rupert Murdoch-owned Wireless Radio (ROI) Ltd show that the increase in revenues to €23.37m coincided with pre-tax losses narrowing slightly from €2.78m to €2.74m in the 12 months to the end of June 30 last. The directors state that "digital revenues in particular delivered significant growth in the period and we continue to invest in this area to promote future growth". The group also owns Limerick's Live 95Fm and Q102 in Dublin and the accounts show that group earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) increased slightly from €2.7m to €2.73m. The directors state that the impact of the increased revenue in the year on EBITDA has been offset by an increase in the operating costs during the year. The US-headquartered News Corporation owned group - which also operates LMFM - last year recorded post tax losses of €1.16m after recording a corporation tax credit of €1.58m. The directors' report states that "throughout the financial year the directors have continued to monitor the impact of the increased cost of living crisis along with other ongoing economic conditions". They state that the company "has continued to operate successfully through these issues and will continue to meet further challenges head on". The directors state that the group's local stations "deliver significant listenership in their respective franchise areas and combine to offer a quasi national urban targeted commercial proposition". They also state that "economic conditions were difficult during the period, compounded by the war in Ukraine and the ongoing challenges of spiralling cost of living increases". "In spite of these challenges however, the company continues to benefit from improving revenue performance and we commend the hard work and dedication of our loyal staff base throughout the period under review," they add. Numbers employed by the group last year increased from 225 to 235 as staff costs decreased from €11.81m to €11.62m. Directors' pay totalled €271,000. The group's combined non-cash depreciation and amortisation costs last year totalled €5.47m. The group's operating lease costs totalled €998,000. At the end of June last, the group had a shareholders' deficit of €11.79m. This was made up of accumulated losses of €55.36m offset by share capital of €43.56m The group's cash increased from €1.45m to €1.83m.
