Carnival Cruise Line shares advice for cruisers looking for love
"The Love Boat" gave people the wrong idea about cruising. Yes, there are some newlyweds on their honeymoons, but most cruises are not full of single good looking people ready to find the love of their life. That's especially true on Carnival Cruise Line, a company geared toward families. Related: Carnival Cruise Line cancels more cruises, adds adults-only cruises There are, of course, single people, especially younger ones traveling with their families. Love connections are made, and the fact that everyone has a smartphone makes geographic barriers less important. If two 23-year-olds met each on a cruise in 1985, keeping in touch would involve expensive phone calls and perhaps writing letters, Now, the couple, can text message, Facetime, and communicate endlessly for free. Cruise ships are not love boats in the classic sense because most passengers are already spoken for. There are, however, divorced parents, singles traveling alone, widowed older folks, and other passengers looking for love. Carnival also holds single events (although they are usually just a time and place for singles to meet) and there are other ways to meet the love of your life. That's something Carnival Brand Ambassador John Heald wrote about in response to a touching message on Facebook page. Be the first to see the best deals on cruises, special sailings, and more. Sign up for the Come Cruise With Me newsletter. Carnival does not offer any sort of official matching service for single passengers. It does, however, want to help people find love when possible. Heald received this touching email on his Facebook page on June 2. "I am almost 72 and have been a widower for the past 18 months. My husband of 32 years Ray loved to cruise. We did 11 cruises together 10 with Carnival. Since Ray's passing, I have cruised just once. I still enjoyed it but it was different. John my question is that I would love to meet someone romantically on my next cruise," wrote the unnamed female widow. She noted that she has tried to find love on land, but has not been successful. "I have very little social life. I live in Bellefonte, a very small town in Pennsylvania. Meeting new people is not possible. Before people judge me, Ray told me before he left for heaven to find someone to spend the last years of my life with. Am I of such an age that to have these desires is probably just daydreaming? How and where do I go on the ship to meet new people and to perhaps find a new soulmate," she added. Heald was sympathetic and kind in his response. "I can't imagine how hard it must be to find a relationship again after losing your husband. I am not even close to being an expert but I imagine there are many, many people who are unsuccessful. In fact there is a whole industry built on that fact with all those apps such as Plenty Of Yaks in the Field. Love is the most valuable commodity in the world and sometimes it can be hard to find," he wrote. Sign up for the Come Cruise With Me newsletter to save money on your next (or your first) cruise. While it may not be easy to find love on land or at sea, Heald offered a solution that would at least increase the odds. "I want to give you a wee dollop of practical advice and this is the reason I am sharing this post so that perhaps others in your situation are reading. Before you cruise again please send me your cabin number and ship and a request that says that you wish to dine with other solo cruisers," he wrote. Heald, of course, is not a matchmaker, but he hopes the original poster finds love. "Now, I cannot promise that you will meet someone who will fill the void that has been with you these past 18 months but perhaps, just perhaps you will meet someone who can. I send you all my hopes that you will find it," he added. Many passengers shared their own advice as well. "I hope she finds genuine love. Maybe join a Facebook group for solo single Cruisers? That being said, beware the scammer. Unfortunately, there are many unscrupulous people that could try and take advantage of her situation for their own gain," wrote Carol Millitch Leonard. Shawn Caccia was encouraging as well. "It is much easier to meet people on a cruise than anywhere on land, especially if you've been married for so long and well 'out of practice' shall we say. There are social events for singles, mixers, but in my honest opinion, if you can manage the smell, the smoking area is always the most social place on the ship. About half the people there don't even smoke but rather enjoy the conversations. I say start there and who knows," he posted. Donna P. Hayhoe shared her own story of finding love on a cruise. "I have never lost a spouse, but divorced and I met someone in my FB cruise group and we became friends and our situations were different at the time. As time passed, we were fortunate to do a cruise together 1 year and 2 months later on same ship and now we are going on our second cruise together on the same ship 2 years later same month we met," she shared. ED deputy director held by CBI for seeking Rs 5cr bribe
Representative image (Picture credit: ANI) NEW DELHI: CBI has arrested a deputy director of ED in Odisha, Chintan Raghuvanshi, in connection with an alleged bribery case. The agency had conducted a 'trap operation' on Thursday after receiving a complaint that the officer had demanded a bribe of Rs 5 crore from a Bhubaneswar-based mining businessman, who also owned a hospital, in lieu of not attaching his hospital or arresting him in a case. Raghuvanshi, a 2013-batch IRS officer, was apprehended by CBI while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20 lakh as the first instalment of the bribe. In his complaint, which is part of CBI's FIR, the businessman said he had received a summons from ED's Bhubaneswar office in 2024 and had attended the proceedings where he was informed about a case having been registered against him in 2020. "On Jan 8, 2025, searches were conducted at my office, residence and at places belonging to my acquaintances. I again received a summon from ED in March 2025. When I went to the ED office, Chintan Raghuvanshi called me to his chamber and asked me to contact a private individual named Bhaghti in order to get relief from ED in my case. I met Bhaghti in Bhubaneshwar and he was also in touch with me on Facetime," the complaint said. The complainant claimed he was pressured to pay a bribe to Raghuvanshi to settle his case. "Bhaghti told me that Raghuvanshi had demanded a bribe of Rs 5 crore for not attaching my hospital and not arresting me and to settle my case," the businessman said, adding when he told Bhagthi he could not pay Rs 5 crore, Raghuvanshi allegedly reduced the amount to Rs 2 crore and sought Rs 50 lakh as the first instalment. The businessman subsequently approached CBI which laid a trap and nabbed the officer.

Fairmount Park shooting: Grieving family speaks out - 'My grandson didn't deserve it'
The Brief A man and woman were killed in a mass shooting Monday night at Fairmount Park that left nine others between 15-27 injured. Amya Devlin, 23, and Mikhail Bowers, 21, were identified as the two people that were killed in the shooting. Bowers' family spoke of the good man the young father was. PHILADELPHIA - The grandmother of the 21-year-old man shot and killed in Fairmount Park late Monday evening in Philadelphia wants to know why Mikail Bowers had to lose his life. Grieving family speaks out On a North Philadelphia porch, a family gathers to mourn. "I'm going to miss my grandson," said Wanda Bowers. Sitting together at the home of the 64-year-old, the Bowers family came to remember 21-year-old Mikail slain Sunday evening in the mayhem at Fairmont Park. Wanda Bowers learned of her grandson's death from his sister in a late-night call. She said, "I just thought I was dreaming to be honest. Even when I still lay down, I thought I was going to wake up and it would still be a dream." The Bowers family said Mikail had gone to the Lemon Hill section of the park for a Memorial Day party. Police tell them the father of three-year-old twins-a boy and girl-was struck once in the chest by gunfire. Bowers said, "Mikail was a good boy. He got into a little trouble as normal teens do, but other than that he was a good boy." Seated on the porch, but unwilling to speak on camera, Mikail's mother, who recounts as her son lay dying in the park, he urged a woman to call her using Facetime. She said her son turned to look at her but never spoke. 'Stop killing people' Wanda Bowers urged Philadelphians to, "Stop all this unnecessary shooting. If you feel as though you need to do that, go into the service, enter the Army - use it that way. Stop killing these people." The Bowers said Mikail attended high school at a juvenile institution near Harrisburg and was seeking work in food service or operating a forklift, areas in which he'd earned certification. He'd reunited with the mother of his twins and was planning to move forward with his young life until a bullet wiped it all away. His grandmother said, "I really want to know the reason for the shooting - for this mass killing. My grandson didn't deserve it, nor did the other kids deserve that."

'It's happening': Josh Allen and Hailee Steinfeld wedding buzz intensifies as Dion Dawkins backpedals on May 31 date
Speculation surrounds Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and actress Hailee Steinfeld's wedding (Getty Images) As speculation swirls around Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and actress Hailee Steinfeld 's potential wedding date, one of Allen's closest teammates is doing his best to keep things under wraps — or maybe just play coy. Dion Dawkins once spilled the wedding date, but now he's in full protection mode Buffalo Bills left tackle Dion Dawkins, who has built a reputation for being both a vocal leader and a big personality in the locker room, raised eyebrows earlier this year when he appeared to casually confirm Allen and Steinfeld's wedding date. During a March 7 appearance on Good Morning Football, Dawkins was asked about his offseason plans and whether he had any weddings on the horizon. With a smile, he responded: "Josh Allen is one of a kind and he has sealed that deal. Soon to come, May 31, it's happening." That simple statement was enough to set Bills Mafia — and pop culture watchers — into a frenzy. May 31? That's just around the corner. However, when Dawkins reappeared on The Rich Eisen Show on May 23, his tune had noticeably changed. When Eisen pressed him about the supposed upcoming nuptials, Dawkins claimed ignorance. "Is that coming up? I ain't know nothing about that," he said. We're all here in Buffalo, working out. I'll give those guys a Facetime call and see how everything is going, but I have no idea. I have no idea." He even leaned into humor to deflect attention from the topic, saying, "I'm in the fog. I am currently in Orchard Park, and I'm focused on Hallmark, and I'm focused on eating a nice batch of wings today." Josh Allen and Hailee Steinfeld reportedly got engaged during the Bills' bye week on November 22, 2024, in Malibu. Since then, the couple has kept all details about the ceremony private, despite growing interest from fans and media alike. When asked about a wedding gift for the couple, Dawkins offered a tongue-in-cheek response: "Josh can walk down the aisle in one piece, and be happy that he's walking down the aisle with all fingers and all toes." Also Read: Josh Allen's wedding in jeopardy as Hailee Steinfeld's health struggles intensify Whether May 31 is the actual date or just a red herring remains to be seen. But with the calendar inching closer to that weekend, the spotlight on Allen and Steinfeld continues to intensify — and Dawkins seems determined to keep the media guessing. They were born in Little Bealings, Suffolk, in 1925 before moving to Slough where they worked at Maltman's Green School. June still lives near Slough, while May moved to Llantwit Major after getting married, where she lived for more than 50 years before moving to Monmouthshire. They are planning on catching up over Facetime for their birthday. The sisters started out working as a cook's assistant and maid at a school before making airplane rivets at a factory in WWII. June's daughter, Jane Douglas, praised them as "very generous" with a "wicked" sense of humour. She said their secret was "sports - and sherry." "Also, having a glass of sherry on a Sunday - you couldn't miss that." June married John Field and worked at Pinewood Studios. To celebrate the big birthday, members of the family will visit each twin in their respective towns over the coming weeks, with June and May sending each other love via FaceTime. Jane added: "They have always done stuff together and known things about each other. For example, my mum's sister knew my mum had once hit her head because she had a headache all day. "She had fallen off her bike and had an accident, and my mum's twin sister knew. It's amazing when stuff like that happens." She continued: "Between the family, we have 18 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, so there are a few of us. She is always open to stuff and very generous, always giving of her time to help people if she can. "My dad passed away when I was 11, so it was always just me and her in the house. In that respect, she was my rock and I was hers. Article continues below "She's a proper nan's nan."
