Not Fahadh Faasil, this actor was the first choice to play Bhanwar Singh Shekawat in Allu Arjun's Pushpa

Sukumar took five years to make the Pushpa films—Pushpa: The Rise (2021) and Pushpa 2: The Rule (2025). The characters played by Allu Arjun, Rashmika Mandanna, and Fahadh Faasil are so deeply embedded that it's hard to imagine anyone else in their place now. However, in an interview with M9 News, Nara Rohith claimed that he was the first choice for the role of Bhanwar Singh Shekawat. (Also Read: Alia Bhatt would love to work with Fahadh Faasil after Roshan Mathew: 'He was unreal in Aavesham') When asked if it's true that he was approached for Fahadh's role in Pushpa, Rohith confirmed it and said, 'I posted some pictures with a moustache during the Covid-19 pandemic. Ravi (Shankar) garu spoke to me first, as did Sukumar garu. Then the span of the film changed, and they wanted Fahadh. But initially, they did speak to me.' Rohith reveals that while he was interested in the role, he doesn't know if he could've played Bhanwar as well as Fahadh did. He said, 'I don't know if I could've played the character like he did. Maybe, if I were on that set, I could've vibed and done it. But after seeing Fahadh, I was like, okay. That was terrific, actually.' In the Pushpa films, Bhanwar plays Arjun's titular character's arch nemesis, a police officer who is casteist and wants to bring down the red sanders smuggling ring at any cost. Fahadh himself, though, didn't seem that impressed by the role when he told Film Companion in 2024, 'I don't think Pushpa did anything for me. I told Sukumar Sir that. I don't have to hide it. I have to be honest.' Rohith took a break from acting after the 2018 film Veera Bhoga Vasantha Rayalu. The film tanked at the box office and was a massive failure. In 2024, he made a comeback with Prathinidhi 2. The same year, he got engaged to his co-star from the film, Siree Lella. He will soon star in Sundarakanda and Bhairavam.

Alia Bhatt calls Fahadh Faasil a ‘fantastic actor', shares dream of working with him: ‘Aavesham is one of my favourite films'

While Indian cinema boasts numerous stars across various languages, the number of artistes who have earned widespread acclaim, recognition and reverence purely for their acting abilities is far smaller. Among that significantly shorter list are Malayalam's Fahadh Faasil and Bollywood's Alia Bhatt, both widely regarded as two of the finest actors in contemporary cinema. While Alia's husband, Ranbir Kapoor, has previously expressed his deep admiration for Fahadh, the Jigra actor herself has now shared her dream of working with the Malayalam star one day. 'Fahadh Faasil is someone I really admire; his work [as well]. He is such a fantastic actor. I think Aavesham is one of my favourite films, and he was just unreal. I would love to collaborate with him someday,' she shared during a conversation with Brut India when asked if there were any regional filmmakers or actors she wished to work with. Alia also heaped praise on her Darlings co-star Roshan Mathew. 'There are so many actors and there's so much talent out there. I had the good fortune of working with Roshan Mathew on Darlings. He's, of course, a wonderful actor, who's done a lot of Malayalam content. He is also making waves in Hindi now.' You can watch any kind of content,' she said. Often referred to as one of the finest actors in the country now, Fahadh Faasil is the son of legendary filmmaker Fazil. Though he made his debut in his father's Kaiyethum Doorath (2002), the movie was severely panned by both critics and the audience alike. Following this setback, Fahadh took a hiatus and moved to the US. He soon began receiving more opportunities and showcased his renewed potential in films like Chaappa Kurishu (2011) and 22 Female Kottayam (2012). Since then, Fahadh has been part of several notable films, including Annayum Rasoolum (2013), Amen (2013), North 24 Kaatham (2013), Artist (2013), Oru Indian Pranayakadha (2013), Bangalore Days (2014), Maheshinte Prathikaaram (2016), Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum (2017), Joji (2021), Kumbalangi Nights (2019), Malik (2021), Vikram (2022), and Aavesham (2024). His performances in all of these films have earned widespread critical acclaim.

Alia Bhatt would love to work with Fahadh Faasil after Roshan Mathew: ‘He was unreal in Aavesham'

Actor Alia Bhatt debuted at the Cannes Film Festival in France this year as one of the brand ambassadors of L'Oréal. In an interview with Brut India, she revealed that she would love to work with Fahadh Faasil someday, having worked with Roshan Mathew from the Malayalam film industry already. (Also Read: Alia Bhatt sings praises for Cannes veteran Aishwarya Rai: 'Have grown up watching her in all the glory') Responding to a question about whom she would like to work with in the future, Alia was all praise for her co-star Roshan and said, 'There's so many actors and there's so much talent out there. I had the good fortune of working with Roshan Mathew on Darlings, who's, of course, a wonderful actor, who's done a lot of Malayalam content. But, is now also making waves in Hindi.' She then added that Aavesham was one of her favourite films and she loved Fahadh's performance in love, sharing how much she'd like to work with the actor, 'Fahad Faasil is someone I really admire, his work, and he's such a fantastic actor. I think Aavesham was one of my favourite films. He was just unreal. So I would love to collaborate with him someday.' This comes after Imtiaz Ali's official announcement that Fahadh will debut in Bollywood soon with The Idiot of Istanbul. Alia was last seen in the 2024 film Jigra, which, despite receiving good reviews, failed to make a mark at the box office. She is now shooting for Alpha, which will be part of YRF's spy universe and Love & War with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Fahadh was last seen in the 2024 film Pushpa 2: The Rule. He has Odum Kuthira Chadum Kuthira and a yet-to-be-titled film with Mammootty and Mohanlal lined up in Malayalam, Maareesan in Tamil and Don't Trouble The Trouble in Telugu.

Meet actor who quit movies after flop debut, fought depression, later won National Award, worked in highest-grossing film, his name is...

A misconception that often remains in the audience's mind is that if an actor comes from a background of actors, then they have an upper hand in the entertainment industry. These people are called the nepo kids of Indian cinema. However, in some cases, these preconceived notions fail. Today, we will discuss an actor who made a disappointing start in the industry with his debut film. However, he rose to fame with his own efforts, despite his father being one of the known producers in the South. This actor has battled depression and has been diagnosed with Adult ADHD (Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). He publicly opened up about his disorder and gave a platform to other actors to be vocal about their mental health issues. If you are wondering which actor we are talking about, then he is Pushpa fame Fahadh Faasil. Fahadh, born to filmmaker Fazil, made his debut in 2002 with his father's film, Kaiyethum Doorath. In the film, Fahadh worked with Nikita Thukral, under the stage name Shaanu. The movie was a huge failure. As per News18, reports claim that following his film's failure, Fahadh went into depression. In one of the interviews, Fahadh said that after the failed debut, he went to the US to pursue his studies, wishing never to return to films. He told Film Companion South, 'I was there for eight years or so. When I came back to Kerala, I had to find a job… I needed to do something to earn a living. The only close circle of friends I had were working in the cinema. So I started interacting with them and getting involved in the writing process. That's when my first acting opportunity came for the segment Mrityunjayam in the anthology film Kerala Cafe. I wasn't serious about it at all. Upon seeing that, Sameer Thahir called me for Chaappa Kurishu.' Later, Fahadh made his comeback in films with the film Kerala Cafe. The movie was a huge hit. Then, in the following years, Fahadh featured in a number of movies such as Diamond Necklace, 22 Female Kottayam, and more. He also received the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor with his performance in Thondimuthalum Driksakshiyum. Fahadh featured in the Pushpa franchise, which turned out to be a massive hit worldwide.
