Prince Moulay Rachid Attends Funeral of Historiographer Abdelhak El Mrini in Rabat
Doha – The funeral of Abdelhak El Mrini, historiographer of the kingdom and spokesperson for the Royal Palace, took place Tuesday at the Achouhada cemetery in Rabat. Prince Moulay Rachid attended the ceremony. Following the Al Asr and funeral prayers at the Achouhada Mosque, the funeral procession made its way to the cemetery where El Mrini was laid to rest. Family members, royal advisors, and numerous civil and military figures were present at the ceremony. Verses from the Quran were recited and prayers were offered for the deceased. Attendees also prayed for the long life of King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, asking for divine protection for the monarch and blessings upon Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, Prince Moulay Rachid, and all members of the royal family. King Mohammed VI also sent a message of condolences to El Mrini's family, expressing 'deep affliction and great sadness' at the passing of his 'faithful servant' during the blessed days of Dou Al Hijja. The King stressed the intellectual's valuable contributions to Moroccan heritage. 'The regretted has enriched the national library with several pertinent and singular works and publications,' the sovereign wrote. These works 'will forever remain a living testimony of his intellectual eminence, his passion for knowledge, his selfless service to his homeland, and his sincere and unwavering attachment to the nation's constants and sacralities and to the Glorious Alaouite Throne,' he added. Lifelong royal historian and cultural guardian El Mrini died Monday in Rabat at the age of 91. Born on May 31, 1934, he memorized the Quran at a young age and later studied at Moulay Youssef High School. He graduated from the Institute of Higher Moroccan Studies in 1960 and earned various academic degrees, including a doctorate from the University of Strasbourg in 1973 and a State doctorate from Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University in Fez in 1989. His professional career began in teaching before he joined the royal palace in 1965. El Mrini served as an advisor to the Ministry of the Royal Household, director of protocol and chancellery in 1998, was named the kingdom's historiographer in 2010, and was appointed spokesperson for the Royal Palace in 2012, a position he held until his death. As a renowned historian, El Mrini authored several reference works, including 'The Moroccan Army Through History' (1968), 'Renaissance of a Nation,' and 'Mohammed V: Studies and Testimonies.' Celebrity Traitors gets major update before the first season has even begun
The most anticipated reality show of the year is said to have been renewed for a second season before the first has even aired. Celebrity Traitors hype is at a fever pitch, ever since the line-up was confirmed with huge showbiz names like Stephen Fry, Charlotte Church and Nick Mohammed set to appear. The inaugural celebrity spin-off of the show will air this autumn, with filming at the infamous Scottish castle already wrapped up. But it has now been reported that the show is set to return for a second season before we've even crowned the first Celebrity Traitors victor, pointing to the BBC's faith in the show's success. A source told The Sun: 'They haven't seen the viewer reaction yet but bosses have watched early edits of the first series now that filming has wrapped and it's exceeded all their wildest expectations. 'They are thrilled with it and hastily commissioned another run.' The source went on to say that the Celebrity Traitors booking team are already hitting the phones to assemble the cast list for the next season, with a goal of signing up 'even bigger A-listers than the first series'. Lee Pearson ‘really wants to change' fan theory about Offaly GAA with Tailteann Cup challenge after ending winless run
IN THEIR first campaign since taking the Mickey, Offaly are aiming to prove that their latest Tailteann Cup challenge will be no joke. Reflecting on the loss to a Meath side who were beaten by Louth in Sunday's Leinster final, Pearson lamented: 'Meath are a very good side — you saw that with them overcoming the Dubs. But looking back, we were very disappointed with how the second half went. 'We built up a bit of a lead. There was a strong gale but there was no excuse for the manner in which we kind of gave up the lead so quickly. So we were a bit disappointed with how that performance went but loads of learnings from it, playing against a top side.' After a four-week lay-off, Offaly got off to a positive start in the Tailteann Cup as goals from Jack Bryant and Diarmuid Egan helped them to that 2-13 to 0-11 win over Wicklow. They next play football next summer . The Edenderry defender said: 'We definitely do see it as a competition that's worth giving 100 per cent. There's no question about that, particularly when you look at the last two campaigns being quite disappointing. We never really got going. 'Look, we'd be hoping for a different approach this year. 'Ultimately you see it as another route to get back into the primary competition, which is the Sam Maguire. This is a huge opportunity to get into that competition. 'This is our All-Ireland Championship competition — that's very much been the message. We're in the Tailteann Cup for a reason, because we haven't proven or we haven't reached the level it takes to compete in the Sam Maguire just yet. 'By all means it's something we're going to go after.'
