DM cracks whip on absent officials, orders salary halt
Varanasi: District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh on Saturday took strong action against absent officials during a review meeting on CM Dashboard development work. Irked by their absence, he ordered the withholding of salaries and issuance of show-cause notices. Singh directed that the salary of the Executive Engineer of PMGSY and the District Minorities Welfare Officer be stopped. A show-cause notice was also issued to the Project Manager of the Bridge Corporation for failing to attend the meeting. In the same meeting, the District Magistrate instructed officials to increase the number of Aadhaar centres in the district from 262 to 500. He said that expanding Aadhaar services would facilitate easy updates to personal details such as address, name, mobile number, photographs, and biometrics. Reviewing construction projects exceeding Rs 1 crore, Singh emphasized timely completion and directed that any issues arising during execution be immediately reported to him or the Chief Development Officer on a daily basis. Expressing dissatisfaction over slow progress in the Family ID initiative, Singh warned the Social Welfare Officer, Disabled Persons Officer, District Probation Officer, DC MNREGA, DD Agriculture, and Basic Education Officer that failure to meet the June target would result in the suspension of their June salary. During the review of the Chief Minister's Rural Housing Scheme and the NIPUN Examination Assessment, Singh noted that the district's ranking stood at 'D'. He directed all concerned departments to improve the performance and achieve an 'A' grade by June 31, 2025. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Old age pensioners can soon submit proof of living for verification through app
Lucknow: The annual verification of old age pensioners is likely to get easier soon, with the social welfare department mulling changes in existing rules where verification is done manually. To streamline the existing system and allow senior citizens to submit proof of living from the comfort of their own homes, the department has proposed the introduction of the Jeevan Praman app , currently being used for govt pensions. Social welfare minister (independent charge) Asim Arun told TOI that in the existing system, the verification is done manually, which often led to discrepancies. It also allowed for manipulation of the system, through which sometimes eligible people were purposely left out while ineligible persons were included. "We are proposing to use biometrics for verification, which will be done through an app or through common service centres (CSC). A presentation on this has been made before the CM, and we are finalising the proposal to present before the Cabinet. This will not just bring transparency to the system but also make it simpler for beneficiaries to avail the services," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like How to earn a second salary with $200 [CFD] TradeLG Undo Currently, the social welfare department is in the process of using Family ID data to onboard new beneficiaries. Once the department gets data of eligible persons who are not yet receiving a pension, such persons will automatically be onboarded, but for legal and other reasons, their consent to receiving the pension will be sought. This consent will be given biometrically, either through the app or through CECs, who can also send officials to the home of the beneficiary, if needed. The second use of the app will be for annual verification. Instead of going over to govt offices to provide proof of being alive or having manual intervention, which is open to errors, the biometric verification will once again be done through the app or through CECs. The use of one-time passwords is also being avoided to prevent manipulation of the system, as OTPs can be used by anyone with access to the registered mobile number. An official said that the scheme will first be rolled out as a pilot in around five districts. It will be run for four to five months to assess whether it is working and if any changes are needed. By the end of this year, the scheme will be rolled out across the state and could also be used by other departments for their pension schemes, he said. Yogi govt set to raise Mass Marriage Scheme cap to ₹3L
Lucknow: The eligibility criteria for families to qualify under the Chief Minister's Mass Marriage Scheme is set to change, with the current annual income cap expected to be raised from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 3 lakh. During a review meeting of the social welfare department on Thursday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the scheme has been a vital support system for families from deprived and marginalised sections of society and the govt should take steps to increase the scheme's coverage "The mass marriage scheme has become a significant support for underprivileged sections. To ensure that more people can benefit from it, we should consider increasing the annual income limit from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 3 lakh," the chief minister said. He further said that, effective from April 1 this year, financial assistance under the scheme was increased from Rs 51,000 to Rs 1 lakh per couple. Of this, Rs 60,000 will be directly transferred to the bride's bank account, Rs 25,000 will be allotted for gifts, and Rs 15,000 will go toward wedding arrangements. The CM directed that these changes be implemented immediately, noting that funds have already been allocated in the current year's budget. The CM also reviewed the status of the old-age pension scheme. He directed officials to link it with the Family ID scheme to ensure no eligible person is left out. "We must ensure that no eligible elderly person is deprived of their pension. Linking the scheme to the Family ID will ensure automatic pension disbursal once an eligible destitute elderly person turns 60," he said. He added that necessary technical arrangements should be made promptly to expand pension coverage through the Family ID system.
