Cha Eun-woo's Memories VR concert: Become his 'girlfriend' in romantic fantasy show, Entertainment News
For a grand total of 45 minutes, my colleague Yuanru and I escaped reality and had the thrill of being in a love story with a very special oppa. We attended Cha Eun-woo's VR concert Memories at GV Bugis+ yesterday (July 30), where the South Korean actor-singer tried to woo us with songs and sweet nothings. Each seat comes with a VR headset and after putting it on, we flicked our hands to unveil stunning visuals of Eun-woo on interactive floating photocards. The show begins with a mystical message slip delivered by the 28-year-old himself, which says: "This is a romantic fantasy. You and I are the main characters." If his allusion of a romance with us wasn't bold enough, oppa also appears close-up in my personal space and looks directly into my eyes - which got me feeling mildly flustered, even as a non-fan. We enter a lovers-to-exes storyline, where Eun-woo tries to get over us — his ex-girlfriend Roha, short for Aroha, the fandom name of K-pop boy band Astro of which he's a member. Heartbroken, he sings various passion-filled songs - including Stay, F**king Great Time, U&I, You're the Best and Memories - in an attempt to profess his unending feelings for us. Imagine a sappy romantic K-drama with all the works: Premium flashes of Eun-woo's abs while he's looking like an angel clad in all-white; him getting all cute and Christmasy with his pet dog Dongdong, who ended up stealing the show; backdrops that include a gazebo, a park and his room filled with memories of our relationship with him; and a comedic portrayal of the five stages of grief, where he gets adorably drunk resulting in our theatre going into a state of hysteria. At multiple climactic points in the concert, we are presented with three options to progress through the storyline, and the ending is specific to each screening through audience consensus. 'Beyond just a concert' Despite only being less than an hour, the experience stood out due to how realistic our moments with Eun-woo felt. Time was spent on building our chemistry with him and his acting performances connected us deeper, even as some of the cheesy lines made for an amusing time. And it's definitely heartwarming to 'see him' especially now that he has enlisted. The name of the concert - Memories - becomes more apt, because this is what fans will remember of him until he returns from his service in two years. K-pop group Astro member Cha Eun Woo joined the South Korean military service on Monday as a part of the mandatory service towards the nation. Yoon San Ha took to his personal Instagram account to share a series of pictures, revealing how the group showed their support for singer-actor Cha Eun Woo. From giving fans a glimpse of Eun Woo at the training centre to wearing a special T-shirt featuring Eun Woo's childhood photo, San Ha went all out to keep his bandmate motivated on his enlistment day. In one of them, he was seen looking sincere as ever in a buzzcut, wearing a white T-shirt and pants. He was snapped saluting his fans who reached the location to give him a farewell. He also flashed the thumbs-up sign and waved at the crowd. According to the Korea Times, Eun Woo's agency Fantagio shared that he will serve in the military as a part of the brass band. He will undergo five weeks of basic training at a boot camp before joining the band. He is expected to complete his service and return on January 27, 2027.

'I will miss you a lot, won't I?' wrote Cha, admitting that it still feels surreal. The singer and actor asked fans not to forget him and mentioned that he has an album, a movie, and a TV show that will be released during his absence. Though the Netflix show, The Wonder Fools , and the movie, The First Ride , are set to premiere soon, the release date of the album is yet to be announced. The details of his military enlistment were announced by his agency Fantagio last May 30, saying the actor-singer is preparing to enlist on July 28. As part of his preparation, the actor had his hair trimmed in compliance with military directives. The member of K-pop boy band Astro posted a series of photos of his crop on Instagram on July 21 with the caption: 'These days.' The star of K-dramas like My ID Is Gangnam Beauty (2018) and Wonderful World (2024) is seen donning a party crown and holding a cake against a 'We Will Miss U' backdrop. Other images show his visit to the hair salon and his fresh look. Cha's agency Fantagio previously said in May that the 28-year-old idol will join the army's military band after completing his basic military training.
