14 booked for assaulting lawyer after road rage in Faridabad

At least 14 men were booked for allegedly assaulting a man after he honked at them to move their vehicle that was blocking the road near Neelam Chowk, police said on Tuesday. The suspects also thrashed another commuter who attempted to record the incident and smashed his phone to destroy the footage. The incident took place around 12.30am on Sunday when Jasmeet Singh, a lawyer, was returning home to Sector 16 after dining at a restaurant. As he exited the restaurant, Singh found a Maruti Suzuki XL6 obstructing the road. After repeated honking to get the vehicle moved, Singh was allegedly abused and attacked by the six drunk occupants of the car, police said. A heated argument escalated into violence when the suspects reportedly called in at least eight more men, who arrived on four two-wheelers armed with rods and sticks. 'The drunk suspects mercilessly assaulted Singh with bricks while his family members tried to shield him,' said Yashpal Yadav, public relations officer, Faridabad Police. According to police, the group also pelted stones at Singh's Maruti Ciaz, causing damage. A passerby, Swatantra Nayak, who attempted to film the attack, was also beaten and had his phone smashed. Police said they had obtained CCTV footage and registration numbers of the XL6 and two-wheelers used by the suspects. 'We have asked the transport department to identify the vehicle owners so arrests can be made soon,' Yadav added. An FIR was registered Monday night at Faridabad Kotwali police station under Sections 191(2), 190, 115, and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on a joint complaint by Singh and Nayak.

4 days after he walked out of Faridabad jail based on namesake's bail order, undertrial arrested in Patna

On Tuesday, as an official of Faridabad's Neemka jail announced the name of 24-year-old Nitesh, informing about his release on bail, another man stepped forward. A name was not the only thing the 27-year-old man shared with Nitesh; both inmates, who were undertrials in the same ward, also had the same father's name: Ravinder. Taking advantage of the mix-up, and the fact that the Nitesh the jail official was looking for was elsewhere, Nitesh Pandey managed to walk out of jail. On Saturday, Faridabad Crime Branch apprehended Pandey from Kalyanpur village in Patna, Bihar, following a tip-off. 'The two undertrials were in the same ward. Pandey had knowledge of the impending bail order for Nitesh, and the fact that the father's name of both the men were the same. When a jail official announced Nitesh's name to instruct him to step out of the ward, Pandey, taking advantage of Nitesh's absence, raised his hand, managing to get free,' a Faridabad Police spokesperson told The Indian Express on Sunday. Pandey was arrested in October 2021 for alleged sexual assault on a nine-year-old boy in Sector 58. The other Nitesh, who goes by only one name, is a resident of Shastri Colony, Faridabad, and had secured bail on May 26 in a trespassing and assault case. Pandey's fraud was discovered when his namesake, still in custody despite the bail order, inquired about his release. Records were soon examined, which revealed that Pandey had been released instead. An FIR was filed against Pandey on Wednesday at Ballabhgarh Sadar police station under sections 262 (obstructing lawful apprehension) and 319 (cheating by personation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Pandey, hailing from Patna, was earlier booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 377 (unnatural sex), 506 (criminal intimidation), and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. His bail plea was rejected in 2022, and his trial in the case is underway. 'Undertrial prisoner Nitish Pandey … who, knowing that there are no bail papers in his name, concealed his identity and got himself released in the name of another prisoner,' the complaint by Vikram Gill, Faridabad Jail Superintendent, read. Five Neemka jail staff members were suspended on Friday for alleged lapses on their part, and face departmental proceedings. Assistant Superintendent Mohanlal, Deputy Superintendent Pradeep Tyagi, Head Constable Rajendra and wardens Sanjeev and Rajesh were suspended based on an internal investigation conducted by Jail Superintendent Harendra Singh. The inquiry report highlighted negligence on their part, following which they were suspended by the Director General of Prisons, Gill had said. The original Nitesh, meanwhile, walked out of jail on Wednesday – a day after he was supposed to be released.

2 nabbed for posing as CBI to extort ₹22L from Faridabad man

Two brothers were arrested from Nuh on Monday for allegedly impersonating CBI officials to cheat a 65-year-old Faridabad resident of ₹22.42 lakh by threatening to implicate him in a suicide attempt case involving a woman, police said on Tuesday. The suspects—Sabir Khan, 35, and Safwan Khan, 25, residents of Ferozepur Jhirka in Nuh—were remanded in five-day police custody after being produced in a Faridabad court, police said. According to Yashpal Yadav, public relations officer of Faridabad Police, the duo used a woman who had befriended the Sector 30 victim via social media on October 3 last year. She initiated an intimate video call with him the same day. Two days later, the suspects posed as CBI officials on a video call and accused the victim of abetting the woman's suicide attempt, police said. 'They told him she left a note accusing him of mental harassment and sexual exploitation,' Yadav said. Fearing social shame, the victim agreed to pay ₹22.42 lakh to settle the matter, the PRO added. According to police, an FIR was filed at the Cybercrime (Central) police station on October 23 under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and IT Act. Police said only ₹1.78 lakh could be recovered from the bank accounts of the suspect and was returned to the victim due to delay in complaint, adding that they are pursuing the remaining funds the suspects had duped from others. Sabir, an arts graduate and contractor, allegedly ran a pan-India cyberfraud gang. His student brother withdrew the extorted cash. Three others—Mohammad Kaif, Mohammad Sahil, and Mohammad Shahrukh—were arrested earlier in the case, they added.

Faridabad teen forced into car, raped: Police arrest two men

Thirty-six hours after a 15-year-old girl was forced into a parked car and allegedly raped, the Faridabad Police said it has arrested a construction worker and a labourer in connection with the crime. The development came following a joint operation by the local police station and the Sector 65 Crime Branch. Police said the worker has been identified as Intzar (24) while his accomplice is Vikas (20), a labourer. The duo was arrested on Tuesday. In a press conference on Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Ballabhgarh) Rajkumar Walia said they nabbed the accused relying on CCTV footage and secret tip-offs. Raids were also conducted in various states, including Uttar Pradesh. The Hyundai Accent used in the crime was recovered, and the Forensic Science team inspected the crime scene. 'Both the accused will be produced in court, and further action will be taken as per law,' Walia said. According to the complaint filed by her family on Sunday, the girl was heading to school on Saturday when two youths forced her into a parked car by pulling her in through a window. After allegedly raping her, they threw her out of the car near her village and fled. She narrated the ordeal to her family upon reaching home, who then approached the police with her. A case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and on abduction charges. 'They took her to a secluded place and raped her, not in a moving vehicle as mentioned in some reports…,' ACP Ashok Kumar had told The Indian Express earlier. 'So far, we are narrowing down the details about the whereabouts of one of the accused, and the investigation is underway. We cannot share more details at this stage as it is a very sensitive case. We are trying our best to apprehend the accused,' he had said.
