McDonald's makes major to change to nearly all US stores just in time for the summer

Night owls, rejoice: McDonald's is staying open later. Just in time for Memorial Day weekend, the fast-food giant is extending hours at select locations. Many will now open until midnight or later — and some going 24/7. While a 'vast majority' of restaurants will adopt the new hours, locations in places like airports and malls will keep their current schedule. To celebrate, McDonald's street teams will be out Friday in Los Angeles, New York, and Detroit, handing out free McCrispy Strips, merch, and gift cards. Fans who don't score free food or merchandise can enter for the chance to win a virtual gift card for free McCrispy Strips tomorrow. All they'll need to do is post an Instagram Story with #DipforMcCrispyStripsGiveaway and tag @GoFooji. These epic-filled specials come after McDonald's announced its plans to hire 375,000 employees this summer. A 'vast majority' of McDonald's restaurants are permanently changing its hours this weekend One of the nation's largest employers, McDonald's is aiming to open 900 new restaurants by 2027. It's already operating over 43,000 worldwide, with over 13,000 in the US alone. Customers have been talking about McDonald's quite a bit already this year for its new products inside and outside the US. However, social media exploded once the fast food chain brought back its fan-favorite Squishmallows toys. They also went crazy over the Happy Meals promoting 'A Minecraft Movie,' which included a new Nether Flame Sauce. McDonald's has also kept busy by continuing to promote its McValue platform and fan-favorite deals like the $5 Meal Deal. The promotions have slowly become part of McDonald's plan to recover from its 3.6 percent sales dive, its biggest US drop since the pandemic. 'We believe McDonald's can weather these difficult conditions better than most. However, we're not immune to the volatility in the industry or the pressures that our consumers are facing,' said McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski. The new hours come after announcing its plans to hire 375,000 employees this summer McDonald's is not the only fast food chain to be offering specials during challenging times. Burger King is giving its Royal Perks members the chance to score free burgers through purchases starting at $1. The deal is leading up to National Hamburger Day this Wednesday. Despite the special, Burger King was hit by a sales decline in North America shortly after franchisee Consolidated Burger Holdings filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Chipotle, America's third largest fast food giant, is preparing to open more restaurants, including its first location in Mexico. However, its sales recently fell by 0.4 percent this quarter, the chain's first sales slump since 2020. Subway brought back its $6.99 for any footlong deal until May 31, but the only thing customers seem to be talking about is the chain's massive US closures. Other restaurants that have deals outshined by closures and declining sales include Hardee's and Jack in the Box.

McDonald's Snack Wrap: Is the Viral Food Favorite Returning on July 14?

McDonald's is riding a viral wave. The fast-food chain's Minecraft Happy Meals and adult Minecraft Meals hit restaurants on April 1 and sold out quickly. Diners ordering a Happy Meal these days will find a Squishmallow theme meal instead. But there's more viral buzz about another McDonald's product online. People are eagerly awaiting the return of Snack Wraps, a chicken-tortilla entree that's been missing from US locations of the Golden Arches since 2020. Read more: Review: McDonald's Minecraft Meals Feature The Hottest Nugget Sauce Ever On April 15, McDonald's tweeted "snack wraps 0x.14.2025," hinting the wraps would return on the 14th of an upcoming month. This leaves fans having to check their McDonald's mobile app or local restaurant menus on the 14th of every month, hoping the wraps will make an appearance. The wraps didn't appear in restaurants on May 14, so now fans must check again in June, and again in July if the June date does not pan out. At least one Reddit users seems to think the McDonald's Snack Wraps could return on July 14. One user wrote, "It's July, I work for McDonald's, they revealed the date on the employee app." But another person posted, "It's not July. I work at McDonald's corporate and can confirm." Neither of those posts can be confirmed. June 14 is a Saturday, while July 14 is a Monday. Some suggest that McDonald's would be more likely to launch a new product on a Monday than on a weekend, so if that's true, July 14 could be the day. A representative for McDonald's did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Snack Wrap fever Snack Wraps first came out in 2006, and were meant to be a chicken item that would appeal to drive-thru customers. There are different versions, but the basic one includes white-meat chicken strips known as McCrispy Strips wrapped in a flour tortilla with cheese and lettuce with either ranch, honey mustard or salsa. McCrispy Strips are a reworked version of a chicken item formerly known as Chicken Selects. Zach Ciampa, who regularly covers new food releases under the social-media handle Snach With Zach, said there's been an intense fanbase out there for the wraps. "Regarding McDonald's Snack Wrap, it's by far the most requested item I've ever seen my audience ask or demand to come back," he told CNET. "Not just the most requested in recent memory, but the most requested of all time. And that's not limited to McDonald's." Ciampa said the only similar fast-food items that come close to the same level of interest are Dairy Queen's S'mores Blizzard and Taco Bell's Caramel Apple Empanada, both of which also made recent returns. "I've been covering food releases for years, and in that time, I've seen countless comments to the tune of 'We don't want this. We want the Snack Wrap,' and, 'Can you tell us when the Snack Wrap is coming back?'" he said. "A couple years ago, the chances of its return were pretty bleak. However, things escalated pretty quickly in late 2023 when McDonald's did indeed announce that the Snack Wrap would return in a new form. Since then, details have slowly but surely trickled out, and the hype has steadily grown." While Snack Wraps left McDonald's locations in the US back in 2020, they remained available at Canadian and UK restaurants. The current online McDonald's Canada menu includes several tortilla-wrapped items, including ones with crispy chicken, grilled chicken, buffalo chicken and chicken with a sweet chili sauce.

White Castle's retail Double Cheese Slider is among a select number of frozen retail products to be named an 'Editors' Pick' by Progressive Grocer magazine. The Double Cheese Slider landed on the 2025 Progressive Grocer Editors' Pick list after making its much-anticipated debut in September 2024. Mobile McDonald's is brought in especially for Big Mac-loving Trump during Middle East tour

US President Donald Trump is well-known for his love of McDonald's, with Big Macs and the Fillet-O-Fish proving particular favourites for the 78-year-old. It was no wonder, then, that Saudi Arabia rolled out a special mobile fast food truck for the visiting President as part of a charm offensive. A White House official confirmed that a mobile McDonald's food truck was in Riyadh as Trump kicked off his landmark tour of the Middle East. Footage posted by i24 journalist Mordechai Wagenheim shows the double-staircase trailer branded both in Arabic and English. It was parked outside a media hub called 'Media Oasis,' where journalists were hosted amid video screens showcasing Saudi mega-projects like the futuristic NEOM city and the upcoming 2034 FIFA World Cup. Trump's long-standing relationship with the fast food giant is well documented. Former White House senior adviser Jared Kushner said that he requested one of his favourite meals during his battle with COVID-19 in 2020. 'I knew he was feeling better when he requested one of his favorite meals: a McDonald's Big Mac, Filet-o-Fish, fries and a vanilla shake,' he said. His campaign diet in 2016, meanwhile, usually involved an 1,880 calorie order featuring two Big Macs, two Filet-O-Fish sandwiches, and a chocolate milkshake, according to ex-campaign manager Corey Lewandowski. During a visit to the battleground state of Pennsylvania before last year's election, he donned a McDonald's apron and worked the fryer at a branch in Feasterville-Trevose. As he entered the establishment, he said: 'Hello, everybody. It's my first day at McDonald's. I'm looking for a job.' He also worked the drive-thru window during his McDonald's shift, greeting customers and vowing that he would make the U.S. 'better than ever' if re-elected to the Oval Office. In 2019, he served McDonald's burgers to welcome Clemson University's football team following their win over Alabama in the College Football Playoff National Championship. 'We have some very large people that like eating,' he said at the event. 'So I think we're going to have a little fun. If it's American, I like it. It's all American stuff.' The US President is said to be concerned about being poisoned, and believes fast food offered consistency and safety through standardised preparation on the road. Trump's reception was filled with symbolic detail as it appeared Saudi officials were keen to impress the US President. American and Saudi flags fluttered throughout the capital, and an all-American fleet of police vehicles formed a visible security perimeter around key sites. He was also greeted on the tarmac as he got off the plane by the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman himself. However, he looked unsure after being handed coffee by attendants wearing ceremonial gun-belts during a sit-down with the Crown Prince. His four day trip, which started on Tuesday, will see Trump visit Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
