Luxury automaker reveals new model, Ferrari Amalfi

Luxury Italian automaker announces a new model, the Ferrari Amalfi, set to go on sale next year, in a press release issued this week. The new V8 2+ coupé is set to replace the Ferrari Roma, and is promising a sporty and sophisticated aesthetic. Prices will begin at about $250,000 and will boast a formidable 640 horsepower and a top speed of 320 km/h. In Pakistan, the import of luxury vehicles is heavily impacted by high duties and taxes, as well as restrictions on used car imports. While completely built unit (CBU) imports face duties potentially up to 200%, used car imports are generally banned, with exceptions like the gift scheme which has fixed duties based on engine capacity. Pakistan is also looking at the rise of Electric Vehicles (EVs), with the government setting ambitious targets, such as 30% of new vehicle sales being electric by 2030. However, infrastructure limitations and high initial costs remain significant hurdles. Despite these challenges, there's a noticeable increase in EV models available, particularly from Chinese manufacturers such as BYD and growing public interest. The Amalfi is set to positions itself competitively against models like the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS and Aston Martin DB12. Its pricing, combined with elegant design is aimed at attracting first-time buyers.

New face of elegance? Ferrari Amalfi revealed as Roma's replacement

Sleek new design does away with the 'egg-crate' lower air inlet. Image: Supplied Ferrari doesn't seem to enjoy the term 'facelift' or 'midcycle refresh', both used to describe when car is given a makeover halfway through its life to make it more attractive to new buyers. The company seems to prefer a full name change and calling the re-release a new model. The Ferrari FF became the Lusso, the Portofino replaced the California and 488 turned into the F8 Tributo. Now the Roma turns into the Ferrari Amalfi. The 'new' model has a revised appearance. Ferrari's design team has made the body-wide black strip a signature of recent new releases. We first saw it on the 12Clindri. An even more pronounced version appeared on the F80 hypercar. Thankfully, the Amalfi has a far more discreet application of this new design cue. The strip links new, slimmer headlamps. Gone is the 'egg-crate' lower air intake. New name, same shape as before. Image: Supplied The sleek overall silhouette remains pretty unchanged. A long bonnet and short rear overhang are still the order of the day. The rear-end, too, doesn't seem like a radical departure. There is an active rear spoiler that deploys at different heights depending on the chosen drive mode. Ferrari says that in high downforce mode there is an increase in downforce of 110kg at 250km/h with less than a 4% increase in drag. Ferrari's press material states that the interior has been simplified to achieve a clean and contemporary language, with extensive use of premium materials and integrated technological solutions. We have no experience with the Roma, so we can't really tell you what was wrong before. We can say that the Amalfi looks pretty snazzy inside. Mechanically Similar The basic layout of the newcomer remains pretty unchanged. At the heart of the Ferrari Amalfi is an evolved twin-turbocharged V8 derived from the same engine as used in the Roma. An eight-speed dual-clutch transmission is the sole option. Performance is claimed as: 0-100km/h in 3.3 seconds, 0-200km/h in 9.0 seconds and a top speed of 320km/h. The cabin is really snazzy. Image: Supplied To quote: The performance increase was achieved through an advanced turbocharging management system, enabling independent control of the rotational speed of the two turbochargers with dedicated calibration and an increase in the maximum turbo speed up to 171,000 rpm. This approach improves throttle response and boosts pressure control precision. The new engine control unit, already used in models such as the 296 GTB, Ferrari Purosangue, and Ferrari 12Cilindri, has allowed the engine's full potential to be harnessed.

Could Lotus Soon Build Cars in the U.S. to Dodge Tariffs?

View post: New Ferrari Amalfi Improves the Roma in All the Right Ways View post: Amazon is selling a 'spacious' $138 rooftop cargo carrier for just $79, and it's the 'perfect travel companion' Rumors swirl, but Lotus says the UK plant is safe Reports over the weekend suggested Lotus might shut down its historic factory in Norfolk, England, threatening more than 1,300 jobs. But the automaker pushed back, saying in a statement, 'Lotus Cars is continuing normal operations, and there are no plans to close the factory.' The denial came after the BBC and Financial Times published stories claiming Lotus was preparing to end UK vehicle production altogether. 0:09 / 0:09 Honda may move the next-generation Civic production from Mexico to the U.S. Watch More Still, the company left the door open to other changes, saying it's 'actively exploring strategic options to enhance efficiency and ensure global competitiveness in the evolving market.' Lotus looks to America to avoid tariffs One option on the table is building cars in the U.S. Speaking during a Q1 earnings call, Lotus CEO Feng Qingfeng acknowledged that assembling vehicles stateside could help the brand circumvent tariffs. 'We are trying to leverage our U.S. strategy to catch up on the losses due to the tariff hike. We believe that localization is a feasible plan,' he said. 2026 Lotus Emira V6 — Source: Lotus Rather than build a brand-new facility, Lotus is reportedly eyeing Volvo's plant in Ridgeville, South Carolina. Volvo, also owned by Geely, opened the site in 2018 and has room to build 150,000 cars per year, but hasn't reached that number. After ending production of the S60 sedan, the factory now builds just two models: the EX90 and Polestar 3. The Ridgeville factory could give Lotus a soft landing The Ridgeville plant already faced a slight workforce cut in May, when Volvo announced it would lay off 5% of its staff—about 125 workers. However, in the long term, the company still plans to expand its operations and add thousands of new jobs. For Lotus, using an existing Geely-owned factory would make far more sense than constructing a new one. Automotive News reports that the Emira sports car and Lotus's upcoming EVs could be assembled in South Carolina if a deal goes through. So far, there's no final decision from Geely or Lotus. The U.S. is its fifth-largest market, but recent tariffs have made exporting cars difficult. Emira exports were halted in April due to increased duties imposed by the Trump administration, but sales will resume in August when the 2026 model hits U.S. dealerships. 2024 Lotus Emira I4 First Edition — Source: Lotus The brand's electric models, including the Eletre SUV and Emeya sedan, are made in China and can't currently be sold in the U.S. because of the same tariffs. Final thoughts Even as Lotus insists its UK operations are safe, industry watchers remain concerned. The British car sector has been hit hard in recent years, and production dropped by a third this May compared to last year. Only 49,810 cars were built, which is the lowest figure for the month since 1949. Exports to the U.S. are also down sharply. The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders says U.S. shipments from British automakers fell 55.4% year over year in May. The country's share of UK auto exports shrank from 18.2% to just 11.3%. Whether or not Lotus expands to South Carolina, it's clear the company, and the wider UK auto industry, is under pressure to adapt. About the Author Elijah Nicholson-Messmer View Profile

New Porsche 911 Carrera 4S Trades Three Pedals For More Horsepower

View post: New Ferrari Amalfi Improves the Roma in All the Right Ways View post: Amazon is selling a 'spacious' $138 rooftop cargo carrier for just $79, and it's the 'perfect travel companion' New Carrera 4S adds to comprehensive 911 lineup Porsche is expanding an already mind-bogglingly diverse 911 lineup with the latest Carrera 4S, a model that combines the security of all-wheel-drive with the more powerful version of the 3.0-liter turbocharged flat-six engine. The '4S' guise comes as a coupe, cabriolet, or Targa, so buyers need not be limited to just a single 911 body style. Porsche promises a 'significant boost in emotionality' for this new powertrain when compared to previous models, and that's saying a lot for a sports car that thrills even in base form. Previous Pause Next Unmute 0:00 / 0:09 Full screen Audi reveals sporty new A5/S5 with an emphasis on design Watch More Half Of 911 S Customers Choose All-Wheel Drive Porsche says that 50% of buyers who go for an S variant of its most iconic sports car choose AWD, especially in regions with more varied climates or difficult road conditions. For these new 4S models, Porsche says the system maintains a rear-biased character, which enthusiasts will appreciate. When necessary, the Porsche Traction Management (PTM) system will deliver more torque to the front axle, enhancing stability and traction. There has been an adjustment to the gear ratio, but the setup is otherwise familiar from other 911 AWD derivatives. Plenty Of Power, But No Manual All three 911 4S models get a 473-hp version of the flat-six mill, which is 30 hp up on their predecessors, but not as powerful as the hybrid flat-fix in the latest GTS, which sits above the 4S in the 911 lineup. An optimized intercooler system from the 911 Turbo has helped free up the extra horses. Unfortunately, Porsche is not offering a manual with the 4S models, not that the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic is anything but superb. This lightning-fast transmission will help the 4S coupe hit 60 mph in only 3.3 seconds, before going on to a top speed of 191 mph. If you want a manual, you'll have to go for the cheaper and less powerful Carrera T (388 hp) or cough up over $220k for the track-focused GT3. The Carrera 4S Cabriolet is only slightly slower than the coupe (0-60 in 3.5 seconds), and while a time was not provided for the Targa, it should be no slower than the cabriolet. This is also the 60th anniversary year of the 911 Targa, which offers the most distinctive design and a perfect balance between the coupe and open-air cabrio. More Standard Equipment, But Expensive Options Remain Source: Porsche No 911 is known for a lengthy list of standard features, but Porsche has seen fit to introduce some improvements in this area. These 4S models come with 20-/21-inch staggered wheels with a new design, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus, a sports exhaust, and a more powerful braking system from the GTS. For the Targa, rear-wheel steering is standard. Wireless smartphone charging, lane departure warning, matrix LED headlights, and a leather package are also standard. However, expect to pay much more for the best upholstery choices and Porsche's full range of tech features. Pricing for the new 4S models has not yet been made available, but the 4S Coupe will be priced between the Carrera S and GTS, so an MSRP of between $150k and $155k seems likely. The Cabriolet and Targa versions will be a little pricier. Source: Porsche About the Author Karl Furlong View Profile
