Notre Dame's Marcus Freeman devastated for Charles Jagusah after his latest injury

Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman discussed the injury to projected starting right guard Charles Jagusah (broken humerus in his left arm) on Thursday after the Fighting Irish's first practice of fall camp. Jagusah was riding a utility terrain vehicle on July 5 in Wyoming when he suffered an untimely accident. "My reaction was devastation for the young man," Freeman said. "The first reaction isn't the team. It's not, 'Oh, my God, we just lost our starting right guard.' It's a care for that person that's gone through a lot." The family-like atmosphere that Freeman has cultivated since his arrival is noticed almost daily, including on the recruiting trail. Jagusah, a redshirt sophomore, suffered a torn pectoral muscle last August that kept him out of the lineup until the final two games of the College Football Playoff. Now the 6-foot-7, 333-pounder has an uncertain return date. Sullivan Absher worked with the first-team offensive line in Jagusah's place on Thursday. Even without the services of Jagusah, this ND offensive line should still be one of the best in the nation. CJ Carr or Kenny Minchey? Our staff picks who will start at quarterback for Notre Dame

CJ Carr Season ☘️ Notre Dame football is set to start fall camp today, and the biggest question surrounding the 2025 version of the Fighting Irish is who will be named the starting quarterback. The two main combatants are CJ Carr and Kenny Minchey, with Blake Hebert having a very outside chance at winning the job. It will be a very interesting battle between the two (or three), as head coach Marcus Freeman did not name a starter following spring practices. Notre Dame will now have almost a month to decide who will lead them on the road against Miami, and it's hard to say when the winner will be named. Regardless of that, the staff here at Fighting Irish Wire consisting of Tim Healey, Dave Miller and Michael Chen will still pick who they believe will start against the Hurricanes below. Tim Healey - contributor CJ Carr would be my pick -- he's looked a bit better, to my eye, than Kenny Minchey in the limited action that we, the public, can see. That's not to say I don't think Minchey can be successful -- I think he'd be fine in the role. But I see more potential for a higher ceiling out of Carr, at least to this point. And hey, if the grandson of a legendary Michigan coach can lead Notre Dame to the promised land, that would be icing on the cake. Dave Miller - contributor CJ Carr ➡️ KK Smith 👀 The old adage is if you have two quarterbacks, you have none. I don't necessarily subscribe to that theory, but I wouldn't be surprised if we see both CJ Carr and Kenny Minchey on the field in the season opener at Miami. Minchey, the No. 180 overall recruit in the 2023 ESPN 300, is entering his third season and has played in four games. He threw for 106 yards and rushed for a touchdown in ND's Blue-Gold spring game. Carr, the grandson of former Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr, threw for 170 yards on 14-of-19 passing with two touchdowns and an interception in the spring showcase. Ultimately, I think Marcus Freeman and his offensive staff will hand the keys over to Carr. He took only four snaps in 2024 and didn't attempt a throw as he recovered from an elbow injury suffered during preseason camp. But the former Elite 11 QB has shown that he has nice touch and is accurate on downfield throws. Whoever is the QB1 will operate behind a very strong line and be surrounded by a deep backfield and a bolstered receiving corps. Either one would be successful, but I think Carr has the higher upside. Michael Chen - site lead CJ Carr finds Elijah Burress for a Blue touchdownThat puts Blue up 32-18 after 6 drives ☘️#GoIrish☘️ | @13Cjcarr | @elijahburress For me, it's about preparing both of them like they will start against Miami, and while it will be only one, both Carr and Minchey have to be ready to take over the offense. You have to believe that Freeman knows this too, which I think is a big reason why he hasn't named his starter. As for the competition, at this point it's about who has the highest floor, the ceiling will get here later with more reps and experience. I think in both cases that guy is Carr. He's got sneaky athleticism, which will play a big part early for the Irish. It's hard to imagine Mike Denbrock calling for a ton of deep balls early, so we might see a lot of dink and dunk from the offense during the first few games considering the opponents. That doesn't mean that Notre Dame won't be able to put up points, but getting Carr's and Minchey's feet wet at the level will go a long way. It's a consensus here at FIW, we all think that Carr will be named the starter. How about you? Kentucky 2027 tight end Seneca Driver plans to make a third trip to Notre Dame

Notre Dame has made quite the impact on four-star Class of 2027 tight end Seneca Driver, so much so that the Kentucky product is planning a third trip to South Bend according to Irish Sports Daily. After having visited campus twice this past spring and getting a Fighting Irish offer in March during 'Pot of Gold Day', the Boyle County (Danville, KY) product has stayed in touch with assistant tight ends coach Harris Bivin, offensive coordinator/tight ends coach Mike Denbrock and head coach Marcus Freeman. And he appreciates the family-like atmosphere that has been built within the program. The 6-foot-6, 223-pounder, who is the No. 1 prospect in the state of Kentucky per the 247Sports Composite Rankings, does not have a specific date in place for his next visit, but he wants to go to a home game this fall to see how the Irish utilize their tight ends fully within the offense. As many ND fans already know, tight end has been an integral part of the offense for quite awhile in South Bend. Driver's offer sheet also includes power programs such as Ohio State, Michigan, Alabama, Florida, Penn State and Texas, among others. But the Irish have a strong history at the position, which bodes well for them in the recruitment of Driver. Notre Dame's Billy Schrauth and Aamil Wagner make Outland Trophy preseason Watch List

5️⃣9️⃣7️⃣4️⃣Strong in the trenches ☘️💪Aamil Wagner and Billy Schrauth have been named to the Outland Trophy Preseason Watch List#GoIrish☘️ It's watch list season, and Notre Dame football continues to be well-represented. The Outland Trophy, which recognizes standout interior linemen, is celebrating its 80th season and unveiled its preseason watch list on Tuesday, and Fighting Irish offensive linemen Billy Schrauth and Aamil Wagner have both made the cut. This year's preseason list includes 16 offensive tackles, 15 guards, nine centers and 10 defensive tackles. It's an impressive list of the best lineman in college football, and quite the honor to be included for the two Notre Dame stars. ND's offensive line is expected to be one of the team's many strengths as it looks to make another deep run in the College Football Playoff this season. If Schrauth and Wagner play up to the Outland standard, they'll both be in the mix for the award and others as well. The winner of the 2025 Outland Trophy will be announced on The Home Depot College Football Awards, live on ESPN on Friday, December 12. Notre Dame great Skylar Diggins continues to make WNBA history with quickest triple-double

Notre Dame great Skylar Diggins continues to make history in the WNBA, cementing her legacy within the league. After recording the first triple-double in WNBA All-Star Game history on July 19, the Seattle Storm guard hit the record books again on Monday when she recorded a triple-double in just three quarters, as the Storm defeated the Connecticut Sun 101-85. Diggins's two free throws at the end of the third quarter gave her 11 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists in 22:51 of action, the lowest minute total for a triple-double in WNBA history. She also became just the second player in Storm history to record a triple-double, joining Temeka Johnson (2014). The Fighting Irish legend is the fourth player in the league to record a triple-double this season, and it was the 46th in WNBA history.
