Two Notre Dame rivalries are among the best in college football

Two Notre Dame rivalries have been nominated among the top 25 in college football in a list produced by The Athletic. They are, unsurprisingly, the matchups against USC and Michigan. Notre Dame faces USC just about every season, with last year's meeting in Los Angeles going to the Fighting Irish, 49-35. It's perhaps a tick more notable that Notre Dame-Michigan makes the list, considering that the two schools haven't met since 2019 and are not scheduled to meet again until 2033. The Fighting Irish versus Trojans rivalry made the number five spot on the list, while Notre Dame-Michigan is 18th. Of course, both rivalries have led to memorable moments, such as the Bush Push. The top four rivalries are all classics -- none will surprise. Michigan-Ohio State tops the list, followed by Auburn-Alabama, Oklahoma-Texas and Army-Navy. The rest of the top 10 include Nebraska-Oklahoma, Miami (Fl)-Florida State, Ohio State-Penn State, Florida-Florida State and Minnesota-Wisconsin. Other notables on the list include USC-UCLA, Texas-Texas A&M and Harvard-Yale. Notre Dame, USC on another top rivalry list

The Fighting Irish and Trojans are known for their rivalry. We ranked the 10 biggest college football rivalries ever. Which one is your favorite? Another publication has ranked the best college football rivalries of all time, and once again, Notre Dame-USC makes the list. This list, unlike one from a few weeks ago, is only 10 deep, so there was only room for one Notre Dame rivalry. Sorry, Michigan. The others on the list, which comes from Fox Sports, will not shock anyone. Number one is Michigan-Ohio State, number two is Alabama-Auburn and Oklahoma-Texas is number three. Army-Navy is fourth, with Notre Dame-USC rounding out the top five. The rest of the top 10: Florida State-Miami (FL), Florida-Georgia, BYU-Utah, Texas-Texas A&M and Mississippi State-Ole Miss. Pundit credits Notre Dame success to former Cincinnati assistants

The Fighting Irish can thank Cincinnati for their recent success Is Cincinnati head coach Luke Fickell's success due to a bunch of former Bearcat assistants who now work in South Bend for Notre Dame? One pundit thinks so. The College Football Watcher account on X, formerly known as Twitter, suggests that Fickell has had success because Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman was once the defensive coordinator there. He then lists Gino Guidugli, the current Fighting Irish quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator, who was the QB coach in Cincy; wide receivers coach Mike Brown, who had that same title with the Bearcats; defensive backs coach Mike Mickens, who was the DB coach in Cincinnati and has that title plus defensive pass-game coordinator with Notre Dame; and former Fighting Irish special teams coordinator Brian Mason. Mason was the special teams coordinator at Cincinnati and is now doing the same job with the NFL's Indianapolis Colts. Whether or not Fickell can have success without these assistants working for him, it's clear that just about any successful head coach will develop successful assistants. At the very least, when teams win, assistants get plucked for other jobs. So it's maybe a coincidence that all these assistants worked for Notre Dame, but it's probably not a coincidence that they are good at their jobs. Notre Dame commit Jonaz Walton can squat 600 pounds

The Fighting Irish are getting one strong running back in Jonaz Walton Notre Dame running back commit Jonaz Walton has a new personal record for squats -- he lifted 600 pounds. That's pretty impressive for anyone, and Walton, a four-star recruit, stands 5-foot-10 and 215 pounds. Walton was ranked the 120th prospect coming out of high school. It's not hard for Notre Dame fans to envision Walton being strong enough to break tackles if he can squat 600 pounds. This news adds to the overall impressiveness of the Fighting Irish's recruiting class. Check it out below.
