Man pleads no contest to shooting Delano K-9

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man pleaded no contest Wednesday to nine charges filed in connection with an incident on New Year's Day 2022 in which he allegedly shot a Delano police dog then pointed the gun at officers. Eduardo Figueroa, 41, faces 20 years and eight months in prison at sentencing in August. He pleaded no contest to harming a police dog, six counts of assault with a gun on a peace officer, possession of a gun by a felon and recklessly evading police. The dog, Axel, survived. Bullet fragments were found near his right shoulder and along the shoulder and neck area near the spinal column. According to court filings, Figueroa led McFarland police on a chase through the city, speeding and running stop signs, before stopping at East Sherwood Avenue and San Lucas Street. He refused to leave the car. A K-9 was requested from Delano police. Axel was released and 'apprehended Figueroa through the open driver's side door,' the filings say. Figueroa fired at least twice, the filings say. Then seven officers opened fire, wounding him. He dropped the gun and was taken to Kern Medical, where he recovered. He was booked into jail once medically cleared. Figueroa told a sheriff's investigator he shot the dog to avoid getting bit, then pointed the gun at officers. A detective asked if he expected to get shot. 'Of course I did,' Figueroa said according to the filings. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Brandon Figueroa to return on Barrios-Pacquiao card?

Former unified world champion Brandon Figueroa will reportedly face Joet Gonzalez on the undercard of Barrios-Pacquiao. Figueroa, 25-2-1 (19), was last seen in the ring in February when he lost a unanimous decision to Stephen Fulton in Las Vegas. That fight saw Figueroa lost his WBC featherweight title. It was Figueroa's second decision loss to Fulton, with the pair having also fought in 2021. Now, it has been reported by Dan Rafael that Figueroa will face Gonzalez as one of the supporting bouts to Barrios-Pacquiao, which takes place on 19 July in Las Vegas. Rafael made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter), citing 'sources'. It is understood that Pacquiao, at the age of 46, will be fighting a scheduled twelve rounds in an attempt to wrest away Barrios's WBC welterweight championship. Gonzalez, 27-4 (15), last fought at the beginning of March, taking a split decision over ten rounds against Arnold Khegai in Long Beach. Prior to that, Gonzalez thought in September last year, dropping a unanimous decision to Luis Alberto Lopez for the IBF world featherweight title. Intriguingly, Gonzalez has never been stopped in four losses, with all of those reverses coming at world-title level. Joining the action on the night will be a reported rematch between Sebastian Fundora and Tim Tszyu. The pair originally met in Las Vegas just over a year ago in a bout that saw Fundora win by split decision over twelve rounds for the WBC and WBO super-welterweight titles. Since then, Fundora has fought once in a bout in March, beating Chordale Booker by technical knockout in four rounds. Tszyu, meanwhile, suffered a crushing loss in his first fight against Fundora, being demolished in three rounds by IBF super-welterweight champion Bakhram Murtazaliev. Tszyu last fought in April when he stopped Joseph Spencer in four rounds in Newcastle, Australia.

Cartel Leader With $1 Million US Bounty On His Head Killed In Mexico

Jorge Humberto "El Perris" Figueroa, a Sinaloa Cartel member loyal to El Chapo's son Ovidio Guzman in the cartel's internal conflict, was killed in a shootout with Mexican authorities during an arrest attempt, New York Post reported. Figueroa, part of the "El Chapitos" faction, fired on Mexican military personnel on Friday, prompting the fatal response, according to the government. The operation targeting Figueroa occurred in Navolato, 32 kilometres (19 miles) from Culiacán, Sinaloa's capital, local media reported, as per CNN. Notably, the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) had offered a $1 million reward for Figueroa, wanted for alleged federal crimes including fentanyl trafficking conspiracy, possession of machine guns and destructive devices, and money laundering conspiracy. "As part of the strategy to build peace in Sinaloa, an operation was carried out to arrest Jorge Humberto, alias El Perris," Mexico's Secretary of State Omar Garcia Harfuch wrote on X. In the intense 2019 showdown, Ovidio Guzman Lopez's arrest sparked violent clashes between the Sinaloa cartel and Mexican security forces. The cartel, allegedly led by El Perris, outnumbered and outgunned the authorities in Culiacan. Amidst the chaos, Mexican authorities released Ovidio Guzman Lopez to prevent further bloodshed. However, he was rearrested, extradited to the US in 2023, and is now serving a life sentence. Recently, he made a deal with the US government to bring 17 family members, including El Chapo's ex-wife, to the States.

Major Mexican drug cartel figure killed in clash with army

Representative image A leader of a notorious Mexican drug cartel who had a bounty on his head in the United States has died in a clash with army troops, authorities said Saturday. Sinaloa state, where the powerful cartel of the same name is based, is enduring a war between two rival factions that has left some 1,200 people dead since September. Jorge Humberto Figueroa was shot and killed Friday in a raid carried out to arrest him, public safety secretary Omar Garcia Harfuch wrote on the social media platform X. The US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) had been offering up to $1 million for information leading to his arrest on suspicion of fentanyl trafficking and money laundering. Figueroa was one of the masterminds of an infamous clash with the authorities in 2019 in the city of Culiacan, Harfuch said. In that case, cartel members fought security forces who had arrested Ovidio Guzman, a son of Sinaloa cartel co-founder Joaquin "Chapo" Guzman. Mexican authorities controversially released Ovidio Guzman at the time, saying they wanted to avoid further bloodshed. But he ultimately was re-arrested in 2023 and extradited to the United States, where he remains in custody. Mexican press reports said Figueroa belonged to a Sinaloa cartel faction run by the sons of the older Guzman, who is serving a life sentence in the United States. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed!
