Suraj Narredu emulates 'hero' Frankie Dettori at Ascot with celebratory flying dismount
Team Asia took the 2025 Shergar Cup after a thrilling final race. Narredu, the rider of winner Fireblade, was joined by Ryusei Sakai and Mirai Iwata as they saw off Europe by a single point A jockey who was inspired to get into horse racing by Frankie Dettori has emulated him by starring at Ascot. Suraj Narredu watched the sporting celebrity ride all seven winners around the track in 1996 - and wanted to try his luck in the saddle. The 40-year-old learned his trade and has since become one of India's most decorated riders, reaching 1,000 wins by the age of 25 – and notched his 2,000th in 2019. Like Dettori, Narredu has competed all over the world, in places like Dubai, Australia and the USA. But it was one of his most special career moments when he was called up to captain Team Asia at the Shergar Cup, an event around the circuit where Dettori made worldwide headlines. As well as the 'Magnificent Seven', the Italian took the Ascot Gold Cup on nine occasions and his victories at its showpiece royal meeting in June number 81. Narredu was so thrilled when Fireblade (13-2) galloped to victory in the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Stayers that he performed his idol's signature move, the flying dismount, in front of the crowd. The performance helped him and teammates Ryusei Sakai and Mirai Iwata to pip Europe by just a point in a thrilling conclusion. "The flying dismount was definitely a tribute to my hero," said Narredu. "It is a dream come true to do something like this over here. "On Thursday I came to have a picture here without a horse. I wanted to be in this winner's enclosure. ''All the effort we have put in in the last three or four months with the Shergar Cup in mind has paid off today. Thanks to all the prayers and blessings of India, we have done it.'' Narredu's uncle Malesh, who was part of the 2009 Shergar Cup, said: ''He has worked hard on his fitness coming into the Shergar Cup. He wanted to be at his best. I could see him working really hard at home and it has paid off." Team Asia - new for this year's competition after replacing the Ladies side - took two of the six races and picked up a crucial second place in the finale to secure the trophy. ''I am absolutely delighted," Narredu added. "To win the Shergar Cup on my debut is the icing on the cake after my winner."

Dean Harrison clinches maiden Superstock victory with scorching 135mph lap: ‘I'm over the moon'
Harrison was willed on by thousands of fans desperate to see him return to the top step of the podium after a series of near-misses. The Bradford rider, who lives on the island, finished third in Monday's Superbike race and second in the opening Supersport race after leading on the first two laps, but Harrison finally emerged on top. He produced a red-hot final lap of 135.692mph in the shortened two-lap race to take over from Davey Todd (8TEN Racing BMW) and never relinquished his advantage. The 36-year-old was ahead at Glen Helen on lap two by 2.3s and Harrison continued to stretch his lead further to five seconds at Ramsey. He won by 11.656s from Todd, with Michael Dunlop taking third on his MD Racing BMW, 20 seconds further down. 'I've been trying and trying, and everyone will tell you how hard it is to win a TT – to get on the podium is hard enough, never mind win one,' said Harrison. 'It's been a tough week and I've been a bit up and down but I've had a three, two and now one. 'Everyone was waving their arms over the fence and spurring me on and I was digging deeper and deeper as they were waving at me more. 'I just rode as hard as I could, read my boards and I'm over the moon with that. 'I got stuck behind Davo [David Johnson] a little bit on lap one going through Glen Helen, so I was held up a little bit there, but to be fair we've worked so hard all week with Honda and to give Honda a TT win – I'm over the moon,' he added. 'I keep saying that the Fireblade is so fast and we're making the bike better and better every time, and 135mph on a 'stocker is good going.' Dunlop said a problem with the electronics on his BMW didn't help his cause as he sought a first Superstock win since 2014. 'My electronic sensor jammed and I don't know if we've got a gremlin in the bike, but the blipper was working and then sometimes not working,' he said. 'With places so fast here you can't afford not to know if it's working or not.' James Hillier (Muc-Off Honda) was fourth, with Ian Hutchinson (MLav Racing BMW) and Conor Cummins (Burrows/RK Racing BMW) the first six. Former Honda Racing rider Nathan Harrison maintained his fine form with a solid ride to seventh on the H&H Motorcycles Honda ahead Dominic Herbertson (HRRC Adam Hewitt Ltd Honda). Paul Jordan was 12th on the Jackson Racing Honda.

A CBR1000RR-Swapped N600 May Be The Perfect Honda
Tiny little city cars are very good, but motorcycles are even better. Of course, each one has its pros and cons, which can only mean one thing: The ideal vehicle is some Hegelian synthesis of the two. Something like this Honda N600, perhaps, which eschews its traditional little two-cylinder for an inline-four out of a Fireblade — and swaps its 45 stock horses for 170 horsepower at 13,000 screaming RPM. The build comes from the mad geniuses over at Cars and Cameras, who have really come into their own as our own little domestic Garage54. Cars and Cameras released part one of the CBR1000RR-powered N600 build, which is nearly 44 minutes of cutting, welding, and making the big four cylinder fit behind the N600's front seats. It's sort of a Renault 5 Turbo layout, which is a far cry from the car's original front-engine, front-wheel-drive design. The first episode covers everything from rolling the N600 into the shop, all the way through to the CBR engine's first start in the new chassis. Any other YouTube channel would take months of slow-drip posts to get to that point, and for that we thank Cars and Cameras. Read more: These Are The Dumbest Looking Cars Of All Time, According To You Despite the increases in displacement and power, the CBR engine is actually lighter than the mill that originally powered the N600 — even with a fuel tank, exhaust manifold, and wiring harness still mounted to the bike engine. All that power with less weight than an already-light stock Honda sounds like a recipe for a car that's an absolute blast to drive. Or a deathtrap. Quite possibly both. The engine isn't really interfacing with the car much in by the end of the video — little things like "pedals" are left as an exercise for later in the build, instead relying on the bike's throttle tube — which raises some questions about how exactly the build crew plans to make that all work. Running a chain to a sprocket at the rear is reasonable enough, but converting a throttle with a return cable to a single pedal seems like a much more intricate job. Seems like we'll all have to stay tuned for the next episode to see how they pull it off. Want more like this? Join the Jalopnik newsletter to get the latest auto news sent straight to your inbox...
