(Photo by) Reports suggest that a $20 million transfer for Jhon Arias has been completed. The Colombian will move from Fluminense to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League. On Thursday night Arias waved farewell to fans in his last home game as a Fluminense player, after the Rio de Janeiro team was defeated 2-0 by new league leader Cruzeiro. Jhon Arias Has International Pedigree Jhon Arias shone for Fluminense, who defeated Inter Milan on the road to the FIFA 2025 Club World Cup semi final. Arias was voted in the team of the tournament and scored a wonderful free-kick in the group stages. It was one for the highlight reel and turned heads worldwide, but as ever his all-round play was the most impressive, helping him to earn this lucrative move. Arias was also crucial when Fluminense won its first ever Copa Libertadores title in 2023, playing 13 games and providing five goal contributions during that continental campaign. (Photo by Daniel Castelo Branco/Eurasia) Since debuting for Colombia on June 5th 2022, Jhon Arias has appeared 29 times for the national team and been a key component in a squad enjoying it's best run of form for many years. Alongside the likes of Luis Díaz of Liverpool and Richard Ríos of Palmeiras, Arias has and Colombia have enjoyed a two-year cycle of great success. Colombia has defeated Brazil and Argentina recently as well as making it to extra-time against Argentina in the 2024 Copa America final. Just one game away from glory, Colombia can return to the biggest stage after missing out on the 2022 World Cup, and on current form Arias will be one of the first names on the team sheet. A Deserved Move To The Premier League Arias is a gifted footballer who usually operates on the right for Fluminense or Colombia but is capable of playing on either flank or in the midfield. His domination of the basics and 'soccer IQ' means Arias is a very adaptable player who is both dangerous in attack and reliable in defence. Arias reminds me of Gini Wijnaldum at Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool. Wijnaldum played more centrally but the ability that stands out the most is the same. The capacity to keep hold of the ball under almost any circumstance. ORLANDO, FLORIDA - JULY 04: Jhon Arias #21 of Fluminense FC runs with the ball while under pressure ... (Photo by Michael Regan - FIFA/FIFA via Getty Images) The Colombian can have three or four men around him and still manage to wriggle out with possession. Whether it's darting down the wing to create a chance, or getting his team out of a tight situation at the back. He is a cool head in tense situations and knows when to speed up an attack or slow down the play. Arias has already played 35 games of club football this calendar year and twice been on international trips with Colombia. He hasn't had a break since January, and now has a Premier League preseason and 10 months of football to contest with. (Photo by Pablo Morano/) It will be a big physical test for the winger. Especially when you consider that this run culminates in the FIFA 2026 World Cup which is likely to be the proudest moment of Arias' career. Although the player will surely be excited at what is to come. He has been an incredible servant to Fluminense and really deserves this move. Despite being technically gifted Arias is also one of the hardest workers on the team. With and without the ball Arias appears to cover every blade of grass, and on many recent occasions he has held this Fluminense team on his back. Hopefully a strong South American contingent in the Wolves' squad, including ex-Fluminense teammate André, can make Jhon Arias feel at home. It will be interesting to see how quickly the Colombian can find his feet in the Premier League and start making an impact. Barcelona considering move for Riquelme Felipe
La Liga giants Barcelona are giving consideration to a move for a member of the attacking ranks at Brazilian outfit Fluminense. That's according to , who highlight Riquelme Felipe as the player in question. Felipe, for his part, is an 18-year-old attacker, who generally operates out wide. The starlet has long been considered one of the standout talents in Brazil, with his dribbling and chance creation abilities of an impressively high level for a player of such tender years. And as alluded to above, such talents, it would appear, have not gone unnoticed behind the scenes at one of European football's biggest clubs. As per a report from MD: 'Barcelona's sporting management, through its scouts in South America, has been following the young Brazilian winger for a year now.' As much comes with a view to a potential incoming move for Felipe, whose contract with Fluminense is due to expire in 2026. Conor Laird – GSFN

Enzo Fernandez calls for change as he blasts ‘very dangerous' Club World Cup conditions
Enzo Fernandez has not held back when revealing the harsh reality of what it's like to play in the extreme heat that's been experienced at the Club World Cup. Fernandez is preparing for Chelsea's date with destiny on Sunday, potentially 90 minutes away from being crowned world champions as they take on Paris Saint-Germain. Chelsea have clawed their way to the final at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium, beating Benfica and Palmeiras before a stunning Joao Pedro brace propelled the Blues past Fluminense in the last four. However, as has been the case for much of the tournament, pre-match preparations have been far from easy, with temperatures on the East Coast reaching as high as 34°C. "Honestly, the heat is incredible,' Fernandez said. 'The other day I got a bit dizzy during a play. I had to lie down on the ground because I was really dizzy. 'Playing in this temperature is very dangerous, it's very dangerous - moreover, for the spectacle, for the people who come to enjoy the stadium, for the people who watch it at home. The game, the speed of the game is not the same, everything becomes very slow. 'Let's hope that next year they change the schedule, at least so that it remains a beautiful and attractive football spectacle, right?" Enzo Maresca revealed earlier in the tournament that Chelsea were forced to limit their training to 'very short' sessions in Philadelphia as temperatures skyrocketed to 37°C. The issue of heat has been a constant shadow over the Club World Cup, with both fans and players saying that it impacts the enjoyability of games. Preparations nevertheless continue for Chelsea, who face the daunting challenge of the European champions on Sunday, in superlative form off the back of their demolition job of Real Madrid. Fernandez provided an injury boost for Chelsea, revealing the Moises Caicedo is 'fine' and 'definitely going to train' after rolling his ankle against Fluminense. And contrary to the detractors of the tournament, Fernandez insists lifting the title would be massive for the club. 'This title is very important for the club,' he adds. 'It's very important to play for the best clubs in the world and we believe it's a great title for the club. We'll try to prepare for the match in the best way possible.' The Club World Cup final acts as the final game of Chelsea's seemingly interminable season, the length of which will clock over to 329 days come Sunday. After a month away from his family, Fernandez is looking forward to enjoying some downtime away from football. 'The truth is I have achieved some very nice things on a personal level but obviously being in a hotel for a month wasn't easy at all,' he said. 'As you know, enjoying time with family when I can is very important to me.' Chelsea's final meeting with PSG will kick off at 8pm BST or 3pm local time, with the sun expected to be beating down on the roofless MetLife Stadium. Barcelona closely monitoring 18-year-old Fluminense rising star
Barcelona are continuing their search for the next big talent in world football, and one of the names at the top of their scouting list is Riquelme Felipe. According to Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan club has been following the young Brazilian winger closely for over a year through their South American scouting network. Riquelme, named after the legendary Juan Roman Riquelme, a former Barcelona player and current Boca Juniors president, is quickly making a name for himself at Fluminense. Who is Riquelme Felipe? The 18-year-old forward made his first-team debut in January and has since become one of the most exciting players. Riquelme has developed through Fluminense's youth academy since joining the club at just 10 years old. While he was known as a prolific goal scorer during his time in the youth ranks, he has evolved his game at the senior level. As of today, it is said that he is more focused on teamwork, using his vision and skill to set up chances for his teammates. This style of play has drawn comparisons to his namesake, with Riquelme Felipe often prioritising the collective over personal glory. Barcelona focused on emerging talents Barcelona's ongoing financial challenges mean the club is now prioritising smart investments in young, promising talents rather than expensive transfers. The signing of Swedish forward Roony Bardghji this summer is a prime example, where Barça paid just over €2 million for the winger, who had only one year left on his contract with Copenhagen. Riquelme Felipe could be next. His contract with Fluminense runs until March 2026 for clubs outside of Brazil, and Barcelona are aware of the opportunity this presents. If the conditions are right, the Catalan giants may look to secure another future star while keeping costs under control.
