Ford will raise the sticker price on cars imported from Mexico. It just said it didn't expect significant US price hikes

A Ford Mach-E at a Ford dealership in Colma, California. - David Paul Morris/Bloomberg/Getty Images Ford is hiking the sticker prices for the three US models it imports from Mexico by up to $2,000 each, just days after executives said they didn't expect significant increases in industrywide car prices this year. The price increase was disclosed in a memo sent to Ford dealerships, first reported by Reuters but confirmed by Ford. Ford said the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP), also known as the 'sticker price,' would increase between $600 to $2,000 per vehicle, depending on the features. Ford said the price hike doesn't apply to vehicles currently on the lot, but will apply to those built after May 2, which start arriving at dealerships in several weeks. 'This is our usual mid-year pricing actions combined with some tariffs we are facing,' Ford spokesman Said Deep told CNN. 'We have not passed on the full cost of tariffs to our customers. Our approach throughout this evolving situation continues to be doing what's right for our customers – and our business.' Since April 3, imported vehicles have faced a tariff of up to 25%. Most of the major automakers import some of their US vehicles from foreign plants, including those in Mexico. Ford assembles three US models in Mexico: the Ford Mustang Mach-E electric vehicle, the Maverick midsize pickup and the Bronco Sport, an entry-level SUV. Those models accounted for about 17% of Ford's first quarter US sales. Despite the tariff on car imports, and an additional tariff on imported parts raising the cost of production, most automakers have been slow to announce price increases pegged to import taxes. Ford said last week it would continue to offer customers the promotional 'employee pricing' through July 4. Ford says it has a sufficient inventory of vehicles built and imported before tariffs took effect to handle purchases through that date. The price hike does not mean customers will necessarily pay $2,000 more per vehicle. Retail prices are set across millions of individual negotiations between buyers and dealers, although the MSRP is typically a starting point. During a media briefing Monday, Ford CFO Sherry House would not comment on Ford's own pricing plans , but said she didn't expect new car pricing in the United States to increase significantly. Ford itself said it expects the tariffs will cost it about $1.5 billion through the rest of this year. 'We now expect industry pricing related to tariffs (to increase) about 1% to 1.5% in the second half,' she said. For more CNN news and newsletters create an account at

Electric Hearses In Asia Sure Are Different

Read the full story on Backfire News Call it a cultural thing, because it is, but when we think of an electric hearse what immediately comes to mind is a Tesla or maybe a Ford Mach-E converted so it can carry a casket. But in Asia there's a robust market electric hearses that are truly horseless carriages, not modern cars, able to carry the dead through the streets in a more intimate you know anything about the culture in much of Asia, you'll understand why these are favored more over a modern car. Perhaps that's why Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba has so many of these horseless carriages that run on batteries available to purchase. Interestingly, we checked Temu and it doesn't have electric hearses. We can only imagine their quality if it did. Some of the electric horseless carriages are rather ornate with plenty of filigree, mock gilding, expansive glass windows, and other formal details. While there are models rolling on what looks like wagon wheels, it's funny to see those which are using modern car wheels with aggressive designs. It's a reminder these throwback designs still live in this century. Also available on Alibaba are electric hearses styled after pre-war cars. Some are more like impressionists' paintings of the classics, while others you have to do a double take to make sure you're not looking at an old Rolls-Royce or Mercedes. While a few of these car-like electric hearses have normal windows, most at least have one expansive pane of glass on each side in the rear. There are those with huge hinged clamshell sides, allowing operators to open up the cargo area for all to clearly see inside without glass or anything else in the way. To us Americans, this all seems so very odd. After all, we drive on public roads at normal speeds when going from one location to another during our funerals. But in Asia, the procession is slower and old traditions hold tight, making the electric hearses a blast from the past. Image via newmanshua/Reddit, Alibaba

Record-breaking revenue announced by Pennsylvania Department of General Services

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WTAJ) — Record-breaking revenue was announced by the Pennsylvania Department of General Services. Officials said revenue from state vehicle auctions reached an all-time high at $19.2 million over the past two years. In 2024, the Bureau of Vehicle Management (BVM) raised a record $10.1 million from vehicle auctions, breaking 2023's single-year record of $9.1 million, officials reported. the proactive vehicle replacement program not only generated record-breaking auction revenue but also saved the Commonwealth $1.5 million in repair costs over two years, they added. 'The Shapiro Administration's focus on smart fiscal policies and innovative solutions has delivered extraordinary results for Pennsylvania,' Brian Esposito, DGS Deputy Secretary for Procurement said in a release. 'Our vehicle replacement program is helping us provide Commonwealth employees with safer, more reliable vehicles while saving taxpayers money in the long term. By retiring older vehicles before maintenance costs escalate, we're making smarter fiscal decisions that benefit everyone.' Why are Pennsylvania flags lowered? Between 2023 and 2024, 43 percent of the Commonwealth's leased vehicles have been replaced. It's the largest fleet renewal effort in over a decade, the department reports. These efforts have reduced repair costs, improved reliability, and added cutting-edge safety technologies to protect state employees. The modernization efforts support Pennsylvania's sustainability efforts which currently include the following alternative fuel vehicles: 33 Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) in service, with an additional 39 in stock, including models such as the Chevy Bolt and Ford Mach-E 82 Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs) 138 Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs)The BVM holds six vehicle auctions annually. Used Commonwealth vehicle auctions are open to the public, including auto dealers. The next auction will take place April 15. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Corvette Product Manager Harlan Charles Given The Boot

Read the full story on The Auto Wire Popular Corvette Product Manager Harlan Charles took to social media recently to announce his retirement from GM. While he didn't say anything about being fired or given the boot, the word on the street is he was ushered out, not that the man was looking forward to retirement. With other shakeups in the Corvette team management, it appears something is about to happen with America's sports had been working on the Corvette model lineup for 24 years and had been a GM employee for 37 when he announced February 2 it's the end of the road for him. 'My Corvette dream is over – my bubble burst,' he wrote on X. That doesn't sound like he willingly retired but rather was forced into it. My Corvette dream is over - my bubble burst After 24 years on Corvette and 37 at GM, I was informed my time is up and I will no longer be your Corvette Product Manager. I am now retired. Harlan CharlesFORMER Chevrolet Corvette Product Marketing Manager — Harlan Charles (@harlan_charles) February 3, 2025 While these sorts of things happen, the shock was a lot for Corvette fans to process since Charles was quite popular with enthusiasts. But when that's combined with Kirk Bennion, Corvette Exterior Design Manager also getting fired, theories start to fly. Bennion had been with GM for over 40 years and started working on the Corvette line way back in 1986. He was also a favorite with enthusiasts since he's one himself. In fact, as this news has spread across the internet, Corvette fans have expressed dismay and even outrage at the ousting of these two managers. With a C9 Corvette coming soon, it's not unreasonable to wonder if this management shakeup has something to do with taking the sports car in a different direction. Rumors have been running rampant for years that GM wants not only an all-electric Corvette but a whole model family bearing the name. That could include a crossover and sedan. It's possible Charles and Bennion weren't onboard with those or other dramatic changes. But these kinds of out-of-touch decisions are everywhere these days from Dodge's emerging new model lineup to the Ford Mach-E. Regulators Are Scrutinizing An Innovative Ford Technology

Read the full story on The Auto Wire Federal regulators from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have announced they're scrutinizing Ford's BlueCruise hands-free driving system more closely. In other words, the ongoing investigation into fatal accidents involving the tech is intensifying as investigators are progressing to an 'engineering analysis' of what happened. In an announcement made recently, NHTSA said its deepening analysis involves about 129,222 vehicles from the 2021 to 2024 model years. The intensifying investigation will focus on not only the limits of BlueCruise but how drivers are able to respond when the hands-free tech doesn't know what to do. Just like Tesla's Auto Pilot and Full Self Driving, controversy has been building around BlueCruise, which is supposed to monitor how attentive the driver is being using cameras. Users can activate it on most highways and stretches of roads without intersections or traffic lights. Back in March 2024 a woman in Philadelphia used the BlueCruise system in her Ford Mach-E while she was allegedly intoxicated. The all-electric crossover ran into a vehicle that was stopped on the left shoulder of I-95 while one driver was trying to help someone whose car had broken down. That resulted in a fatal accident and criminal charges for the Ford driver. A similar case involved a Mach-E with BlueCruise active failing to detect a darkened 1999 Honda CR-V parked in a lane of traffic at night on February 24, 2024. The Ford slammed into that car, killing the driver inside It's not clear why in both cases, the BlueCruise system didn't apply the brakes, avoiding a collision. The issue might have been with the sensors, software, or something else. That's likely what NHTSA is trying to ascertain through its investigation.
