Lewis Hamilton's name change, Monaco winner's net worth, dating history

Sir Lewis Hamilton has once again been named as the UK's richest active sportsperson, but the F1 star's life has seen a lot happen away from the track Formula One ace Sir Lewis Hamilton has once again topped the list as the UK's wealthiest active sportsman, according to the 2025 Sunday Times Rich List. The seven-time world champion was previously ranked as the 350th richest individual in the UK, boasting a staggering net worth of £350million. However, following his lucrative switch from Mercedes to Ferrari ahead of the 2025 Formula One World Championship, his fortune has skyrocketed, with his net worth now estimated at £385m, placing him 324th on the list. Hamilton's surprise move to Ferrari sent shockwaves through the F1 community, especially since he had inked a two-year contract with Mercedes the previous summer before opting to activate a one-year break clause. ‌ The 40-year-old is reportedly set to pocket an eye-watering £50m annually with his new team, having agreed to a two-season contract with an option for a third in 2027. This salary shatters the record for the highest F1 pay packet ever, a record previously held by Max Verstappen last season when he earned a base salary of £47m, reports Wales Online. ‌ Hamilton's earnings could potentially exceed his £50m salary, as this figure is not thought to include performance bonuses, meaning it could significantly increase if the season proves successful. However, after six races with Ferrari, the British star has yet to secure a podium finish, with his fourth placed finish at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix being his best performance with the Scuderia. He clinched his last World Championship title in 2020, equalling Michael Schumacher's seven-world-title record and solidifying his status as one of the greatest racing drivers ever. Since then, there's been plenty of buzz around Hamilton's life off the circuit, including whispers about his romantic connections with various A-list celebrities and even chatter about him considering a name change. Mirror Sport takes you through some of these occurrences. Surprise name change Hamilton made headlines when he announced a surprise name change. In 2021, after being knighted for his contributions to motorsport, Hamilton brought along his mother Carmen, who separated from his father Anthony during his childhood, to witness his knighthood ceremony conducted by King Charles at Windsor Castle. The year after his knighthood, Hamilton disclosed his intentions to honour his mother in an impactful way, declaring that he was in the process of legally adopting her maiden name, Larbalestier, into his own as a middle name. He said: "None of you might know that my mum's [sur]name is Larbalestier, and I'm just about to put that in my name. "Because I don't really fully understand the whole idea of why, when people get married, the woman loses her name. I really want her name to continue on with the Hamilton name." ‌ It's unknown as to whether Hamilton has followed through with the legal procedures to effectuate the name change. Lewis Hamilton's dating history Hamilton's love life continues to draw attention, especially considering his past relationships with prominent stars. Throughout his illustrious career, Hamilton's high-profile relationships and romantic life have been under intense media scrutiny. ‌ He has reportedly dated an array of A-list celebrities over the years, including his well-publicised romance with Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger, which lasted for nearly eight years. The on-again, off-again relationship began when they met at the 2007 MTV EMAs but ended for good in February 2015, after three break-ups. At the time, both parties were said to be "devastated" by the split. Scherzinger moved on to date Bulgarian tennis player Grigor Dimitrov, followed by Scottish rugby international Thom Evans, to whom she is now engaged. Hamilton, meanwhile, has been linked to numerous high-profile figures from the music, fashion, and entertainment industries. Some of these rumoured connections include supermodels Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner, as well as singer Rihanna, all of whom he claimed were simply close friends. Other prominent names associated with the British racing star include singers Rita Ora, Nicki Minaj, and Shakira, alongside model Juliana Nalu, an ex-girlfriend of Kanye West. ‌ More recently, Hamilton sparked romance speculation when spotted having lunch with Modern Family actress Sofia Vergara, 12 years his senior, in New York. TMZ stated the couple were "engrossed in conversation" yet any whispers of romance have been squashed, as it appears they are both friends. Hollywood film role Hamilton is set to blaze his trail into Tinseltown later this year with 'F1: The Movie' hitting cinemas. He'll join Hollywood big-hitters like Brad Pitt and Javier Bardem in a fast-paced drama that's got motorsport fans' hearts racing. Pitt plays an ex-F1 driver pushed back onto the track to guide a young hotshot. ‌ Hamilton will be sharing the silver screen with all the speedsters from 2023's F1 teams, appearing as themselves. He has been praised by the directors, not just for his acting, but also as a producer, where he helped ensure the scenery and the happenings were as close to F1 reality as possible. Director Joseph Kosinski said to "The first day was really fun. It was me, Brad and Lewis Hamilton at the track together, all of us jumping in cars and driving each other around in sports cars, which was one of those things, I'll never forget having Lewis Hamilton as your driving instructor. "Brad and Damson are both driving in this film and in order to get them into these race cars, it required months, literally months of training. But what we learned and what Lewis was really interested [in] was seeing, did Brad know how to drive, right? Because if Brad can't drive, this whole film wasn't going to work. "What Lewis was very happy to discover was that Brad had a lot of just natural ability right from the start, and I don't know where he got that or if he was born with it, and he rides motorcycles, which I think has something to do with it. But he's just a very talented, naturally gifted driver, which for Lewis after that first meeting gave him a lot of confidence that we might have a shot at pulling this off."

Lewis Hamilton's astronomic net worth now, shock name change and megastar girlfriends

Lewis Hamilton's astronomic net worth now, shock name change and megastar girlfriends The Formula One star's staggering wealth has been revealed in the 2025 Sunday Times Rich List Hamilton is one of the richest sportsmen in the world Formula One star Sir Lewis Hamilton has once again been named as the UK's richest active sportsperson, according to the 2025 Sunday Times Rich List which was revealed on Friday. The seven-time world champion was last year named as the 350th richest person in the UK, with a staggering net worth of £350 million. However, since his lucrative move from Mercedes to Ferrari ahead of the 2025 Formula One World Championship, his wealth has soared, with his net worth now standing at £385 million, putting him at 324th in the list. The shock move to Ferrari stunned the F1 world when it was announced last year, with Hamilton signing a two-year deal with Mercedes the previous summer before choosing to exercise a one year break clause. The 40-year-old will reportedly earn a staggering £50 million per year with his new team, with his contract agreed for two seasons and an option for a third in 2027. That figure has smashed the record for the biggest F1 salary ever, with the record set by Max Verstappen last season when he banked a base salary of £47 million. Hamilton could end up earning even more than his £50 million salary, with that amount not believed to be inclusive of performances bonuses, meaning it could rise significantly higher if the season goes well. However, with six races now under his belt with Ferrari, the British star is yet to finish on the podium, with his fifth place finish at the Bahrain Grand Prix his best result of the World Drivers' Championship so far. His last World Championship win came in 2020, when he sealed his seventh title to equal Michael Schumacher's tally and become the most successful racing driver of all time. However, since then, a lot has happened in Hamilton's life away from the track, with the F1 star romantically linked with a string of A-list stars and even revealing plans to change his name. Here's what you need to know. Shock name change In 2021, Hamilton was awarded a knighthood for services to motorsport and invited his mother Carmen - who split from his father Anthony when he was a child - to watch him receive the honour from Prince Charles at Windsor Castle. The following year, he revealed plans to pay a major tribute to his mum, explaining that he was in the process of legally changing his name to include her maiden name, Larbalestier, as a middle name. "None of you might know that my mum's [sur]name is Larbalestier, and I'm just about to put that in my name," the racing ace explained. "Because I don't really fully understand the whole idea of why, when people get married, the woman loses her name. I really want her name to continue on with the Hamilton name." As of this year, however, it is unclear whether Hamilton has actually successfully changed his name yet or not. Megastar girlfriends As one of the greatest Formula 1 drivers of all time, as well as one of the biggest names in world sport, Hamilton has unsurprisingly seen his romantic life placed under the microscope over the course of his career. The 40-year-old is certainly no stranger to a high-profile relationship, having reportedly dated a string of A-listers in recent years. Most notably, he was in on-off relationship with Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger for around eight years, with their romance well-documented in the tabloid press. The couple met at the MTV EMAs in 2007 but split up three times before calling it quits for good in February 2015, with their final separation leaving them both "devastated". Scherzinger later started relationships with two other sportsmen, dating Bulgarian tennis player Grigor Dimitrov before later getting engaged to former Scotland rugby international Thom Evans. Hamilton, meanwhile, has since been linked with several high-profile names from across the music, fashion and entertainment worlds. He has played down rumours that he was dating supermodel Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Rihanna, who he described as just good friends. The British star has also been linked with singers Rita Ora, Nicki Minaj and Shakira, as well as Kanye West's model ex-girlfriend Juliana Nalu. Earlier this year, he sparked further romance rumours when he was spotted having lunch with Modern Family actress Sofia Vegara, - who is 12 years older than him - in New York. At the time, TMZ reported that the pair were "engrossed in conversation" with each other, but suggestions that they were ever romantically involved have been played down with the two reportedly nothing more than good friends. Hollywood film role Later this year, Hamilton will share the big screen with the likes of Brad Pitt and Javier Bardem, as F1: The Movie is released in the cinemas. The film sees Pitt play Sonny Hayes, an F1 driver who retires following a horror crash, only to be asked to come out of retirement to mentor a rookie prodigy. Hamilton stars in the film alongside all of the drivers from the ten F1 teams from the 2023 season, who appear as themselves. However, he is also credited as a producer on the film and has been praised for the "instrumental" role he played in helping to bring the story to life. Director Joseph Kosinski revealed that Hamilton played a major role early on in production and was interested to gauge Pitt's abilities behind the wheel. But the first day was really fun. It was me, Brad and Lewis Hamilton at the track together, all of us jumping in cars and driving each other around in sports cars, which was one of those things, I'll never forget having Lewis Hamilton as your driving instructor. 'Brad and Damson are both driving in this film and in order to get them into these race cars, it required months, literally months of training,' Kosinski told "The first day was really fun. 'But what we learned and what Lewis was really interested [in] was seeing, did Brad know how to drive, right? Because if Brad can't drive, this whole film wasn't going to work," he added. Lawson to build on Miami momentum as F1 returns to Imola

After a well-earned two-week break, Liam Lawson is back on track this weekend. He heads to the historic Imola Circuit for Round 7 of the 2025 Formula One World Championship — the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. Lawson arrives in Italy fresh off his most encouraging weekend of the season in Miami. There he showed real promise despite limited preparation. Despite having never driven a lap around the tricky street circuit before the sole Practice session, the 23-year-old Kiwi adapted quickly. He finished just outside the Top 10 in 11th. Sprint Qualifying didn't quite go to plan. He did well to make it through to SQ2, he couldn't quite piece together a lap good enough for SQ3. Therefore, he lined up 14th for the Sprint. When Saturday's race finally got underway in the wet, he made a lightning start, jumping five spots. Liam Lawson during the Miami Sprint Race. That result looked to have sealed Liam's first points of the season. However, a post-race penalty for a tangle with Fernando Alonso cruelly dropped him back to 13th. In Grand Prix Qualifying, he again showed flashes of pace — a strong banker lap in Q1 comfortably saw him through to the next phase, though a single flyer in Q2 left him starting 15th. Sadly, his Sunday didn't last long, with contact from Jack Doohan at Turn 1 causing heavy damage and eventually forcing him to retire. While the ending in Miami was far from ideal, the overall performance marked a real step forward, so there's every reason to be optimistic heading to Imola. Not only is it the home track of the VCARB squad, it's also a place Lawson knows well. He has logged plenty of laps there in Red Bull's testing programme over the past few years. He also raced at Imola in Formula 2 back in 2022, so he'll be returning with a solid base of experience under his belt. Liam Lawson and Racing Bulls teammate Isack Hadjar. That should give him plenty of time to get acclimatised to the VCARB 02 before cracking into Qualifying. Lawson's weekend begins with Free Practice 1 tonight at 11:30 pm NZT. You can catch all the sessions live on Sky Sport or the F1 TV App. And, as always, we'll keep you updated across our socials throughout the weekend. Colour footage of first ever Formula One race at Silverstone released for 75th anniversary

Newly restored footage of the first-ever Formula One race has been uncovered as part of the sport's 75th anniversary. The footage of the 1950 British Grand Prix at Silverstone has been colourised through AI software and manual painting techniques. It was released on Tuesday and is the first time Formula One fans are able to watch a race from the era in colour. The race, held on 13 May 1950, was watched at the now renowned Northamptonshire track by King George VI, Queen Elizabeth, and their daughter - the future Queen - Princess Elizabeth. The race, won by Giuseppe 'Nino' Farina in an Alfa Romeo, was attended by over 100,000 people and featured drivers who would become some of the sport's most famous names, including five-time champion Juan Manuel Fangio. It was the first race held officially as part of the Formula One World Championship, part of a seven-race series at the time. This year's edition on 6 July will be the 59th British Grand Prix held at Silverstone.
