CSMC recovers 82cr in realty tax through amnesty scheme

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) has extended the amnesty scheme until the end of Aug. The scheme, initially until Aug 15, helped the local civic body recover Rs 82.6 crore in property tax from from defaulter citizens. The amnesty scheme, named Freedom from Penalty, enables property owners to avail of a 95% concession on late payment charges for a one-time settlement of dues. While only residential properties were initially covered under the scheme, commercial and industrial properties among others, were also included. "A total of 37,259 property holders benefited from the amnesty scheme from July 15 to Aug 15. We appeal to the remaining defaulters to follow suit and clear their dues," CSMC administrator and municipal commissioner G Sreekanth said. Meanwhile, the CSMC has collected Rs 146.1 crore in property tax by Saturday. Official data also shows that the civic body collected Rs 11.5 crore in water tax from citizens in the current fiscal year. The CSMC recovered Rs 157.7 crore towards property tax and Rs 26.3 crore towards water tax by the end of the 2024-25 financial year. "With more than 7 months still to go before the end of the current financial year, the tax recovery is expected to exceed that of last year," civic authorities said. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) is anticipating a significant boost in revenue this financial year following the expansion of its property tax amnesty scheme. Initially applicable only to residential properties, the scheme now includes commercial and industrial establishments, among other property types. Under the revised scheme, titled Freedom from Penalty, residential property owners can avail of a 95% concession on late payment charges if they pay their dues in a one-time settlement by Aug 15. Those who make payments between Aug 16 and Sept15 will receive a 75% concession. Municipal Commissioner G Shreekanth introduced the scheme using his special administrative powers. "The scope of the amnesty scheme is very much enlarged now. By incorporating all property types, we expect a huge number of property holders to clear their dues. We expect record recovery of property tax this year," a senior CSMC official said.
