PSG Coach's Beautiful Tribute To Deceased Daughter After Champions League Triumph

It was a memorable night for Paris Saint-Germain as they dismantled Inter Milan 5-0 to clinch the coveted and their maiden Champions League title on Saturday. Inter were simply no match for the French club, who recorded the biggest victory by any team in the final in the 70-year history of the European Cup and Champions League. After already winning the French Cup and Ligue 1, PSG also completed a historic treble with Champions League triumph. Apart from this, it was a memorable yet emotional moment for PSG coach Luis Enrique, who received a terrific tribute from the fans regarding his late daughter. For the unversed, Enrique's daughter Xana was only nine years old when she tragically passed away due to bone cancer in 2019. Not only the fans but Luis himself gave a loving tribute to his daughter on the special day. In the final match, the PSG coach was seen wearing a black t-shirt, with a graphic image of him and his daughter planting the Barcelona flag on the ground. This image was taken in 2015 when Barcelona clinched the Champions League title, under the guidance of Luis as their head coach. After the match, Luis and his daughter Xana, who was five at that time, planted a Barcelona flag on the ground to celebrate the victory. But I don't need to win the Champions League or even a game to think about my daughter," Luis Enrique said. "She's always with me. She's supporting me, and our family, and I feel her presence," he added. The Spanish coach also said he had his sights set on the title ever since he took over in the French capital in 2023. "On my first day at the PSG campus, my French was even worse than it is today. But I said the ultimate goal for me as a coach was to fill the trophy cabinet," the Spaniard said. "The only trophy missing was Champions League. And we've ticked that box. We were ambitious, and we did it. It's in the bag and it's coming home with us tomorrow," he added.

PSG's Marquinhos wants a fight against Inter

Paris St Germain captain Marquinhos knows what it is like to lose a Champions League final and is not going to let a second chance slip without a fight when they face Inter Milan in Munich, the Brazilian defender said on Friday. Marquinhos was a member of the PSG side which lost the 2020 final to Bayern Munich, but has the opportunity for redemption as the club look to secure their first Champions League trophy on Saturday. "We've been through highs, we've been through lows," Marquinhos told reporters. "Tomorrow we've got a beautiful opportunity. We could go down in history. This would be great for the club, for the players. "This is my second chance to win a Champions League final and I'm not going to go down without a fight." Earlier this season, PSG were in danger of not even making the knockout stages, losing three and drawing one of their opening five games, before squeaking through on the final day of the league phase. Since then they have gone from strength to strength, wrapping up the Ligue 1 title with six games to spare and winning the French Cup, and the PSG players are now ready to cap their season with the ultimate prize. "We're going to pull out the performance of a lifetime tomorrow on the pitch because it will be very difficult and actually we've had to fight all season now to get to the final," Marquinhos said. "We've done everything we can to get to the final of the Champions League. This is the best moment of our season. It's that cherry on the top and it's up to us now. "We need to take the silverware back to Paris so that we can share this with our fans who have supported us over the season. Time is of the essence now, we're going for the silverware tomorrow and we're going to take it home." REUTERS

Achraf Hakimi finished off a brilliant attacking move to put them ahead 12 minutes in and it already felt over when 19-year-old Desire Doue added a second eight minutes later with the help of a deflection. Doue would get another just after the hour but PSG just kept coming as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia made it four 10 minutes later, with another teenager, 18-year-old Senny Mayulu, sparking wild scenes when he got the fifth five minutes from time. Chelsea forward Aggie Beever-Jones put forward her case when she became just the second Lioness to score a hat-trick at Wembley in the 6-0 Nations League rout of Portugal. The key for Wiegman will be to find the right balance of form, fitness and chemistry in the final 23. 'Of course you want these connections,' she said. 'Some players play more together than others. You have your opponents and of course, we still have players that are building too, so can they go to the level they had before they had injuries? 'I don't know yet. We're still trying out things and finding the balance.' Heitinga leaves, Lijnders for City? Former Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders could be on his way to rivals Manchester City (Nick Potts/PA) As Liverpool announced that John Heitinga was leaving his role as Arne Slot's assistant to become head coach of Ajax, one of his predecessors as a deputy in the Anfield dugout has also been in the news this weekend. Lijnders left Liverpool at the same time as Klopp last summer, but his role as Red Bull Salzburg boss was short-lived as he left in December. Former Ajax and Everton defender Heitinga, 41, will take over from Francesco Farioli in Amsterdam after the Italian saw his side squander a nine-point lead in the Eredivise title race to rivals PSV Eindhoven.
