Jeremie Frimpong sets sights on Salah partnership after Liverpool move

Jeremie Frimpong Joins Liverpool with Eyes Set on Salah Link-Up Frimpong's Arrival Marks Start of New Era Liverpool's summer business has kicked off with intent. In a deal that signals both transition and ambition, Jeremie Frimpong has arrived from Bayer Leverkusen after the club activated his £30 million release clause. The 24-year-old becomes the latest Dutch international to join the squad, hinting at a continued tactical evolution under new manager Arne Slot. His arrival was confirmed shortly after Trent Alexander-Arnold's departure to Real Madrid, a move that netted the Reds £10 million. While comparisons will inevitably follow, the early signals suggest Frimpong is not viewed as a like-for-like replacement for the Scouser. Instead, Slot appears to see the energetic wing-back as a versatile component, one capable of impacting multiple areas of the pitch. Salah Connection Sparks Enthusiasm Frimpong's first official interview since his move saw him express a clear sense of awe and anticipation, particularly when discussing the opportunity to play alongside Mohamed Salah. His admiration was candid and refreshingly honest. Photo: IMAGO 'For me, playing with world-class players as a footballer is a privilege,' said Frimpong. 'Like, brah, I'm going to be next to Mo Salah, not just him, the whole Liverpool squad. Just Liverpool in general. This is a privilege, a blessing that I can be part of it. But I can't wait to link up with him, hopefully we link up good. I'm excited for these things, 100 per cent.' Advertisement Slot's Liverpool may end up using Frimpong as a wide option who can dovetail with Salah's inside runs, potentially giving Liverpool's right flank a different dynamic. While Alexander-Arnold brought precision and poise, Frimpong offers raw speed, instinctive attacking movement and a level of energy that could reignite the touchline partnerships Liverpool once thrived on. Positive Signs from Conversations with Slot In addition to discussing his admiration for Salah, Frimpong spoke warmly about his early chats with new head coach Arne Slot. The Dutchman's influence clearly played a part in the move, and Frimpong seems energised by the prospect of working under him. 'I spoke to the manager a few times,' he said. 'He sounds very positive. He says I can bring a lot of energy and my qualities, my speed. Especially when a manager is talking positively about you, it gives you very good confidence that he believes in you. I've had good conversations with him. Advertisement 'Even when I was at [the] national team, some of the Feyenoord boys would tell me about him and be like, 'He's the best coach I've ever had.' Things like this. So, I've always heard good things about the coach. Now he's going to be my coach, so I'm excited for that.' New Faces, New Direction As Liverpool look to build a team in Slot's image, Frimpong's arrival offers more than just a boost in squad depth. It is a statement that the club is focused on refreshment rather than full-scale revolution. His link-up with Salah, if it clicks, could become a key storyline for the 2025/26 campaign. With further arrivals expected, including a possible move for Florian Wirtz, the Frimpong signing feels like a calculated and symbolic start to a summer of transformation at Anfield.

Jeremie Frimpong sets ambitious target after Liverpool transfer

Jeremie Frimpong Targets Silverware Surge After Liverpool Arrival Immediate Impact and Ambition Jeremie Frimpong hasn't wasted a second laying out his Liverpool ambitions. Within moments of his unveiling, the 24-year-old Dutchman turned the conversation from his transfer fee to treble dreams. This was not the standard new-signing nicety. This was conviction. Advertisement 'For me, everywhere I've been I've always won things,' Frimpong told 'It's always been the league, cups and the league, so I've always won trebles. I want to win trebles, I want to win trophies – I play football to win trophies. I want to win as many trophies as possible.' Photo: IMAGO This isn't mere optimism. It's expectation, rooted in experience. At Celtic, Frimpong formed part of a domestic treble-winning side. At Bayer Leverkusen, he was instrumental in their Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double, as well as a near miss in the Europa League final. Now, at Liverpool, the expectation only intensifies. Pedigree of Success Frimpong's CV already reads like a player well-acquainted with pressure and performance. In 2019/20, he celebrated a clean sweep in Scotland. Last season, under Xabi Alonso's historic Leverkusen side, he featured prominently in a campaign defined by unbeaten brilliance in Germany. Advertisement While their Europa League final defeat to Atalanta left a sour aftertaste, the message was clear: Frimpong arrives with a habit of winning and an appetite for more. His attacking instincts from right-back, paired with Liverpool's progressive, high-energy system under Arne Slot, could prove the perfect match. Slot's Vision and Early Opportunities The Community Shield in August offers an immediate chance to set the tone. A win against Crystal Palace might be modest in the grand scheme, but a trophy in Frimpong's competitive debut would align well with his trophy-first mentality. Liverpool have lifted silverware in each of the past two seasons and appear determined to continue that streak. High Expectations at Anfield Liverpool are no strangers to chasing trebles, even quadruples, only to fall marginally short. The desire remains, especially after the euphoric title celebrations that turned sombre just days later. With Frimpong in red, the bar is set high. His pace, tenacity, and fearlessness feel tailor-made for a side hungry to build a new era. If his past is any indication, Liverpool haven't just signed a player – they've acquired a mentality.

He is now set to join a Netherlands contingent at Liverpool that includes manager Arne Slot as well as club captain Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch. Reports earlier Friday said Liverpool had made an improved £109 million ($146 million) bid to sign the Germany midfielder . Liverpool's second offer for Wirtz includes add-on clauses that would make him the most expensive signing in the club's history. Wirtz has also attracted interest from Bayern Munich and Manchester City, but it is believed he made it clear to Leverkusen that he wants to join Liverpool before next season. The 22-year-old emerged as one of the most highly-rated young playmakers in Europe after helping Leverkusen win thee Bundesliga. Wirtz was named Bundesliga player of the season for his role in that 2023/24 triumph. Hendrick: 'This is Not a Club That's Playing Around' as Wirtz Bid Escalates

Liverpool Eye Double Bundesliga Swoop as Frimpong and Wirtz Deals Accelerate Wirtz Deal Edges Closer to Completion In a bold move that signals Liverpool's intent to build a post-Klopp era of sustained success under Arne Slot, the club has significantly stepped up its pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz. On The Daily Red Podcast, Dave Hendrick confirmed that David Ornstein has reported an 'improved second bid' from Liverpool, totalling €130 million. Advertisement 'This is big time money,' Hendrick declared, adding, 'This is not a club that's playing around.' With Wirtz keen on the switch to Anfield, Hendrick made it clear how serious Liverpool's offer is: 'You're probably looking at somewhere in the region of 85 to 90 million as a guaranteed figure and then the rest would be in add-ons for appearances and winning things.' The importance of those add-ons is clear. Hendrick said, 'If you're winning things, you don't mind paying the add-ons… I hope we pay the 49 million. I really do, because then we'll have won a league title, a Champions League, and he'll have made a ton of appearances for us.' Advertisement The 22-year-old Wirtz is widely regarded as one of Europe's most technically gifted attacking midfielders and his potential addition would reshape Liverpool's forward structure, particularly with uncertainty surrounding Luis Díaz and Darwin Núñez. Frimpong Transfer Nears Completion Meanwhile, the long-anticipated move for Jeremie Frimpong also appears imminent. 'Frimpong is literally just waiting on the formalities by the sound of things,' said Hendrick, strongly implying that personal terms and the final stages of negotiation are now all that remain. Frimpong, a dynamic right-sided wing-back also from Leverkusen, fits the bill for Liverpool's evolving tactical system. While Hendrick didn't elaborate further during this episode, his concise confirmation suggests that Liverpool see Frimpong as a vital addition, possibly to operate in a back-three system with wing-backs – a structure he hinted at when discussing other positional roles. Transfer Strategy Points to Ruthless Efficiency Hendrick noted that Liverpool have learned from their past failed attempts to land elite targets like Jude Bellingham, Moisés Caicedo, and Aurélien Tchouaméni. 'We fell short on those deals,' he admitted, but praised the club's current approach: 'This time it doesn't look like Liverpool are leaving anything to chance.' Advertisement This new phase of business is described as meticulous and aggressive. Hendrick even suggested that 'once the fee is agreed for Florian Wirtz, we will quickly move on to getting Milos Kerkez wrapped up as well.' And it won't stop there. According to journalist Lewis Steele, relayed on the podcast, Liverpool will 'step up a pursuit for a number nine and a central defender once Frimpong, Wirtz and Kirk are done.' Photo: IMAGO Diaz and Núñez Futures in Doubt Wirtz's arrival could impact current attacking options. Díaz, whose contract situation remains unresolved, is attracting Saudi Arabian interest. 'It makes all the sense to sell him at his age with the contract situation,' said Hendrick, who also noted, 'I think Darwin is almost certain to want that move.' Advertisement Wirtz, expected to occupy the left side of the trio behind the striker, could push both players out of contention. 'Unless Díaz was staying as the backup striker, it wouldn't make sense,' Hendrick argued, clearly outlining the club's hierarchy of priorities. Conclusion The Daily Red Podcast, hosted by Dave Hendrick, offered a revealing glimpse into Liverpool's current transfer drive. With Frimpong and Wirtz both nearing the finish line and a new striker and centre-back also on the agenda, the message is clear – Liverpool are no longer tentative in the market. This summer could redefine the squad's trajectory. And as Hendrick concluded with regard to Wirtz: 'If we have to pay an extra three or four million… who cares? We won a league title.'
