Ex-U.S. Open Champ Banned From Major Course
Ex-U.S. Open Champ Banned From Major Course originally appeared on Athlon Sports. You miss the cut. You break a locker. You get banned. That's the brutal trilogy Wyndham Clark just lived through. Earlier this summer at the U.S. Open, Clark bogeyed the 18th at Oakmont Country Club, missing the cut by a single shot. What followed, according to multiple reports, wasn't just frustration, it was a full-on meltdown. Photos emerged showing smashed lockers and damaged property inside the historic Oakmont locker room. And now? He's no longer welcome on the grounds. Advertisement Golf writer Pat Mayo confirmed this week that Oakmont has officially banned Clark from its premises. 'There is a path for (Clark) to be reinstated,' Mayo wrote, 'if he pays for the damages, makes charitable donations, and completes counseling.' It's a dramatic turn for the 2023 U.S. Open champion. Clark, who opened up about his mental health struggles in the Netflix docuseries Full Swing, has spoken at length about using therapy to cope with personal grief and on-course pressure. His mother passed away in 2013 from breast cancer, a loss that continues to shape his journey. Clark joined the PGA Tour in 2019, but truly broke out in 2023. He won not only the U.S. Open but also the Wells Fargo Championship. In 2024, he added the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am to his resume. But this season hasn't been kind. In 19 starts, he has just one top-10 finish and four missed cuts. As for Oakmont? The iconic course hosts the U.S. Open again in 2033. Whether Clark returns by then depends on what he does next, off the course, not on it. Former Ohio State golfer Neal Shipley wins second Korn Ferry Tour victory of year
Former Ohio State men's golfer Neal Shipley continues to impress, winning his second Korn Ferry Tour victory this season after winning the The Ascendent on July 13. The win came after Shipley birdied the final hole at the TPC Colorado course in Berthoud, Colorado, to win by one stroke over Jorge Fernandez Valdes and Kevin Dougherty. After playing two years for the Buckeyes (2023-24), Shipley splashed on the scene in the professional ranks by finishing as the low amateur in the 2024 Masters and finished up the tournament by being paired with Tiger Woods during the final round on Sunday. He was also featured on the Netflix documentary, "Full Swing," during the show's third season. Shipley's first Korn Ferry Tournament win came on April 19 at the Suncoast Classic at Lakewood National Golf Club in Florida. The win not only continues his rise in celebrity status, but it puts him in very, very good shape to earn his PGA card. The top 30 players in the Korn Ferry points standings will be eligible for the PGA Tour, and he currently projects to be around No. 4 after the latest victory. We can safely say that we will probably be seeing more of the Pittsburgh native Shipley in the very near future in the golf universe. Joel Dahmen announces split from caddie Geno Bonnalie
Joel Dahmen announced Tuesday that he was splitting from longtime caddie Geno Bonnaile. The news was first reported Monday by Matt Gannon. Dahmen and Bonnaile have worked together for more than a decade, beginning on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2015. Their relationship, which began as childhood friends in Washington state, was popularized over two seasons on Netflix's "Full Swing" show. Advertisement "We're still the best of friends and that will never change," Dahmen said in an X post. "But we both know that a fresh perspective is sometimes needed and it's been a great run. I couldn't be more proud of what we have achieved together as guys from a small town in the middle of nowhere." Earlier this year, Max Homa and longtime friend/caddie Joe Greiner parted ways amid Homa's on-course struggles. Dahmen is currently 98th on the FedExCup points list, with the top 100 securing full status in 2026. He finished 124th last year — when the top 125 earned cards. Dahmen's lone Tour win came in the 2021 Corales Puntacana Championship. He had a chance to win that event again this year but bogeyed his final three holes to lose by one. Joel Dahmen announces split from caddie Geno Bonnalie
Scottie Scheffler reflects on how much time and effort is spent preparing for tournaments and how even after a big win, that euphoric feeling only lasts for a few moments before it's onto the next. Netflix's 'Full Swing' Star Hit With Unfortunate News
Netflix's 'Full Swing' Star Hit With Unfortunate News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It hurts more when it feels personal. Especially when the bond seemed unbreakable, on and off the golf course. Advertisement This week, Joel Dahmen and Geno Bonnalie, perhaps the most adored player-caddie duo on the PGA Tour, decided to part ways. Fans first learned of the news through Matt Gannon. Soon after, Skratch's Dan Rapaport confirmed it with a direct quote from Dahmen himself: 'It was time. We had a great run.' That 'run' wasn't just about golf. These two weren't just teammates; they were best friends. Their bromance became the emotional heart of Full Swing on Netflix. Season 2 even showed them tearing up mid-flight when Dahmen told Geno, 'I love the f--- out of you.' Now, it's over. The split adds to a growing list of big-name shake-ups this season. Max Homa and Joe Greiner? Gone. Collin Morikawa and J.J. Jakovac? Done. Even Tom Kim and Paul Tesori broke up this week. This isn't just a trend, it's a full-blown caddie carousel. Advertisement Dahmen, meanwhile, is having a rough patch. He's winless since 2021 and ranked No. 172 in the world. He's hanging onto his PGA Tour card by a thread, finishing No. 124 in last year's FedExCup standings. This year, only the top 100 will get full status for 2026, and he's sitting at 96th. For now, he's more visible off the course, doing commentary and making appearances. But after 10 years together, it's clear this wasn't an easy decision for either of them. Dahmen tees it up this week at the Barracuda Championship. A new caddie will be there. But for fans, something will be missing.
