No-confidence motion? Speaker says wait until tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul has remained tight-lipped when asked whether his office has received any motion of no confidence against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim ahead of the Parliament sitting, which starts tomorrow. "Wait for tomorrow, thank you," he said briefly when contacted today. According to tomorrow's Order Paper published on the Parliament's website, no such motion has been submitted by any members of parliament, particularly from the opposition bloc. The Dewan Rakyat sitting, which starts tomorrow and runs until Aug 28, is expected to continue into the evenings, with the main focus on the tabling of the 13th Malaysia Plan. The call for the opposition to table a no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister was made yesterday by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the Finance Minister. This was in response to efforts by the opposition to organise a rally scheduled for this Saturday, demanding his resignation. For the record, a confidence motion in support of the Prime Minister was previously tabled in the Dewan Rakyat on Dec 19, 2022, after Anwar was appointed to lead the government following the 15th General Election (GE15). At the time, the motion was passed via a voice vote after it was tabled by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and seconded by his counterpart Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, before being debated by 12 MPs from both the government and opposition blocs. Meanwhile, acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad previously said police expect between 10,000 and 15,000 people to participate in the Himpunan Turun Anwar rally scheduled for July 26.

Marzuki rebuts Rafizi's claim: PN did offer DPM post and cabinet roles to BN after GE15

FORMER PKR Deputy President Rafizi Ramli claimed that PN did not offer any positions to BN during post-GE15 negotiations and that PN leader Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin looked down on UMNO. However, former Political Secretary to the eighth Prime Minister, Datuk Dr Marzuki Mohamad, has now countered Rafizi's claims by revealing a letter proving that PN did offer BN the Deputy Prime Minister post, Cabinet positions, and other government roles. Marzuki insisted that negotiations were cordial, Muhyiddin never belittled UMNO, and it was Rafizi who was lying about what truly happened in those discussions. 'I watched a podcast video by Rafizi claiming that PN did not make any offer to BN during the negotiations to form a government after GE15. 'In fact, he claimed Tan Sri Muhyiddin looked down on UMNO. He said he had an insider in the PN-BN negotiations at Hotel St Regis on 23 November 2022. 'I don't know if he really had an insider or not. Brother Rafizi, you are lying,' he said in a Facebook post on Saturday. Marzuki emphasised that he wasn't merely an insider but was directly involved in the negotiations from beginning to end. He described the discussions with BN as having taken place in a friendly and respectful atmosphere. 'Not once did Muhyiddin belittle UMNO. Moreover, those who attended were all his friends from UMNO and BN. They spoke like friends too. 'Secondly, in any negotiation, there must be offers. The BN delegation came with the offer of BN MPs giving 'en-bloc' support to Muhyiddin as Prime Minister. 'In return, PN offered the Deputy Prime Minister post to BN, Cabinet positions according to the number of parliamentary seats won, and several other matters,' he said. —July 20, 2025 Main image: Sinar Harian

Muhyiddin's former political secretary reveals Perikatan offer to BN during GE15 talks

SHAH ALAM: The former political secretary to Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has exposed a letter in which he claims that Barisan Nasional had been offered the Deputy Prime Minister's post in talks after the 15th General Elections in 2023. In revealing this, Datuk Dr Marzuki Mohamad ( pic ) said the letter indicated that Perikatan not only offered the Deputy Prime Minister's role but was also willing to provide Cabinet positions and other government roles as necessary. He said this refutes claims by former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, who alleged that Perikatan did not offer any positions and looked down on Barisan. "I watched a video of Rafizi claiming that Perikatan made no offers to Barisan during the government formation negotiations after GE15,' said Marzuki. "In fact, he claimed that Muhyiddin looked down on Umno. He said he had insiders in the Perikatan-Barisan negotiations at the St Regis Hotel on Nov 23, 2022. I don't know if he really has 'insiders'. Rafizi, you are lying," Marzuki added in a Facebook post on Saturday (July 19). Marzuki then said that he was fully involved in the negotiations from beginning to end and added that the talks took place in a cordial atmosphere. "Never once did Muhyiddin belittle Umno. Besides, everyone present were his friends in Umno and Barisan. They spoke like friends. "Secondly, there must be offers in negotiations. The Barisan delegation came with the offer of Barisan Members of Parliament giving 'en-bloc' support to Muhyiddin as Prime Minister,' said Marzuki. "In return, Perikatan offered the Deputy Prime Minister position to Barisan, along with Cabinet positions based on the composition of parliamentary seats won, and several other matters," he said. He added that the Deputy Prime Minister from Barisan was not determined; it had to be negotiated between the Prime Minister and Barisan leadership. Marzuki then said that at the end of the negotiations, the Barisan delegation led by Deputy Chairman, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, requested that the offers be made in writing for presentation at the Umno supreme council meeting that evening. "After the negotiations ended, I sat with Perikatan Secretary-General, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, and others to prepare a letter containing Perikatan's offer to Barisan. "The letter addressed to the Barisan Deputy Chairman, was handed over on the same day. At that time, I saw no reason for Umno to reject the offer with the reasonable terms discussed and agreed upon in principle during the negotiations. It just needed to be brought to the Umno supreme council for confirmation," he said. However, Marzuki added that he was unsure if the letter was discussed at the Umno supreme council meeting on the night of Nov 23. He then said that later on that night, he was surprised to read a media statement from the Umno secretary-general stating that the supreme council had decided to reject cooperation with Perikatan and chose to collaborate with Pakatan Harapan instead. "I was speechless. But what can be done? It was already late at night, the decision had been made, the body was tired, so I just went to sleep, hoping that tomorrow would be better than yesterday,' said Marzuki. "I am not an important person, but I have been destined to be involved in many political negotiations. I do not like to disclose negotiation details, but if it has become a source of lies and slander, it is my responsibility to state the truth,' he added.

Rafizi exposes 3 PMX's PolSecs who proactively undermine perceived PKR ‘rabble-rousers'

CALL this a case of badmouthing, backstabbing or punching below the belt from behind the scenes. Having had enough with a myriad of 'labelling' ranging from a reject by party grassroots, sour grape by stepping down as economy minister and most recently, accused of revolting to destroy his party, former PKR president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli has taken to the social media to name his nemesis. 'The latest accusation comes from a person named Datuk Azman Abidin. You may wonder who is Azman Bidin,' penned the defiant Pandan MP on his Facebook page. 'He has great influence in PKR although many may not know him well. Therefore, I wish to introduce him today.' According to Rafizi, Azman who is currently one of the three political secretaries (PolSec) to the Prime Minister (PM) has displayed a turncoat nature since the time of the late Selangor menteri besar (MB) Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim. 'His greatness lies in no matter what happens in PKR's internal politics, he must be drawing a fat salary in the government,' chided Rafizi who alongside former natural resources and environmental sustainability minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad have been moved to the Dewan Rakyat backbench following their cabinet exit. 'When the late TS Khalid became MB, he was TS Khalid's strongman and was appointed as an MB officer during which he desperately rejected Azmin (former Selangor MB). 'But when Azmin became MB, he suddenly turned to support Azmin following which he was made an officer for Azmin. 'When Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim became PM, he suddenly became the PM's political secretary although we didn't see him much during the national campaign for GE15 (15th General Election).' Rafizi went on to reveal that Azman who is currently the PKR Federal Territories interim chairman is part of PMX's PolSec trio who also comprised Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin and Chan Ming Kai 'who spent their time campaigning to remove PKR leaders thought to be not in line with them'. 'People are busy administering the country while they're busy strategising behind the scenes which culminated in Nurul Izzah Anwar contesting the for the PKR deputy president post (which she eventually defeated Rafizi who was the incumbent),' he chided. 'I can't wait to see Datuk Azman Bidin campaigning nationwide to get 80 parliamentary seats in the GE16 later with guidance from Ramanan (newly elected PKR vice-president and former MIC treasurer Datuk Seri Ramanan Ramakrishnan). God willing, Azman Bidin will herald a new era for PKR.' Apparently, many commenters to Rafizi's latest exposé tended to agree that PMX is surrounded by bootlickers and apple-polishers who could eventually be a liability to both his premiership and PKR if he continues to throw caution to the wind. In fact, one pointedly revealed two more PolSecs of PMX whom he accused of 'also being sent to do NGO work for PMX' – Ahmad Farhan Fauzi and PKR Youth chief Kamil Munim (PolSec to Finance Minister). – July 19, 2025
