Want Amaravati to be the next Davos, says CM at CII meet

Vijayawada: Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday urged industrialists to support the building of a global leadership centre (GLC) in Amaravati, which he said would become the destination for global investors and industrialists instead of Davos in future. Addressing the CII conference in New Delhi, Naidu said they have been going to Davos to network, exchange ideas, and meet people. "Instead, I want to make Amaravati the new global centre. All leaders should come to Amaravati and India to cultivate leadership. We want to promote more leaders to lead and provide services to the global community, and for that, we need a global leadership centre to achieve the goal. I request you all to support the setting up of GLC in Amaravati to produce the leaders of tomorrow," he said. He invited industry captains to become partners in the historic journey of construction of greenfield capital city Amaravati. "We are aiming for more than 15% annual growth, reaching a $2.4 trillion economy with a per capita income of $42,000 by 2047 — making Andhra Pradesh one of India's most prosperous and inclusive states," he added. The CM said empowering the youth is central to his vision. "When I was jailed unjustly, tech professionals in 80 countries protested. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Espalhe a sua marca para milhares de pessoas Balinhas Personalizadas Solicite orçamento Undo Don't just seek jobs, become entrepreneurs. Our global leadership centre will create a cascading effect of change-makers and global citizens. We have launched the national academy of construction and started India's first equipment bank. The first phase of Amaravati will be completed in three years, including an international airport and world-class infrastructure," Naidu said. He said they have been working with Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in Kuppam to integrate AI into healthcare and establish real-time medical monitoring. "Nearly 35% of AP's GSDP is agro-based. We are promoting aqua zones, horticulture, agri-processing, and global brands like Araku coffee. The state govt is developing 175 industrial parks in 175 constituencies, backed by cluster-based skilling and tourism infrastructure to create 50,000 hotel rooms in five years. CII is collaborating with us to scale up skilling efforts. We offer proof of concept. Through viability gap funding, new models, and proactive hand-holding, we will ensure that entrepreneurs succeed, even in challenging conditions. Public policy matters deeply," he concluded.

‘No nepotism involved'

United front: Anwar (middle, front) standing with newly elected party office bearers as they sing the party's anthem during PKR national congress in Johor Baru. — THOMAS YONG/The Star JOHOR BARU: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has described claims of nepotism following his daughter's successful outing at PKR's recent party polls as unfair to him and the party. The Prime Minister and PKR president said Nurul Izzah's election as deputy president reflects the wishes of the party grassroots. 'Back (in 1998) when I was hours away from being arrested by the police to be thrown in jail, I had no choice but to choose (Datuk Seri Wan) Azizah (Wan Ismail) to replace me. 'She did not even know how long she had to shoulder that responsibility. But there were no claims of nepotism then,' he said during his winding-up address at the PKR national congress. 'But why is there an issue now? Yes, I chose Wan Azizah out of desperation but Nurul Izzah was elected (as deputy president) by party members.' Nurul Izzah won the deputy president race with 9,803 votes, over the incumbent, Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, who received 3,866 votes. The Prime Minister also made special mention of Wan Azizah, noting her contributions to the party. 'I better thank her before everyone else or else she will say I forgot about her,' he quipped, to which the audience applauded. Now that the party polls have ended, Anwar said it is time for healing. He said continued efforts must be made to reform the party, which represents all races in the country. Expressing his confidence in the new line-up, he reminded PKR leaders to not forget their roots and remain committed to reform and not just chase after positions or material. He said it was important to carry out an 'idealism polishing' from time to time to uphold the party's integrity, adding that internal reforms should cover selection, discipline, values and evaluation of office bearers for various government and GLC positions. Although Rafizi and former vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad were not present on the second day of the congress, Anwar paid tribute and said their sacrifices cannot be forgotten. On the party elections, he said the results reflected delegates' rejection of the 'cai' method (preferred candidates' line-up). As for the upcoming Sabah state election, Anwar, who is also Pakatan Harapan chairman, assured the party that he will obtain a reasonable number of seats to contest. He said a special meeting will be held on May 29 to discuss seat allocations for the upcoming polls. 'I have discussed the matter with Barisan Nasional and Umno chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor on working together. 'After the Asean summit ends, the special meeting will be held and I give my assurance that PKR and Pakatan will get a reasonable number of seats,' he added.

Anwar calls for PKR unity after party elections

JOHOR BARU: Now that the party elections are over, it is a time for healing, says PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He acknowledged that at times some members had gone overboard, which was not good for the party. "However, we need to be united and continue to reform this party as we represent all races in the country," he said during his winding-up speech at the National PKR Congress here. Anwar, who expressed confidence in the new line-up, reminded PKR leaders not to forget their roots and to remain committed to reform rather than just chasing positions or material gains. He emphasised the importance of carrying out an "idealism polishing" periodically to ensure the party's integrity. "Even iron needs to be taken out and oiled from time to time to prevent rust if left too long in water," he said, adding that internal reforms should cover selection, discipline, behaviour, values, and evaluation of office bearers for various government and GLC positions. Although former president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and former vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad were not present on the second day of the congress, Anwar paid tribute to them, stating that their sacrifices cannot be forgotten.
