Russell Wilson joined Gabe Davis at dinner during New York Giants visit
Throughout free agency and the draft, one of the main focuses for the New York Giants has been ensuring that there are enough skill players for Russell Wilson to throw the ball to this fall. Malik Nabers, Wan'Dale Robinson, and Darius Slayton are the sure starters in 2025, but after that, it gets a little murky. In May, the Giants hosted former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Gabe Davis for a visit. It wasn't a traditional free-agent visit, but more of a "let's see where you're at" visit focused on medical evaluations and system familiarity. Davis appeared on the Up & Adams Show on Thursday, and Davis shared some details on that visit. "It was great, Chad (Hall), Dabes, Shea (Tierney), all those, Joe (Schoen), I mean, it was awesome," Davis said. "Going out to New York and seeing those guys and talking with them. Russ, Russ came to dinner, that was dope, you know, to have Russell Wilson there. That was pretty sick. He's a legend." Davis was drafted in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL draft by the Buffalo Bills. He played there, catching passes from Josh Allen, until his rookie contract expired and he signed a one-year deal with the Jags. Through 72 games over four seasons, Davis has recorded 183 passes for 2,969 yards and 29 touchdowns with four fumbles. He also has postseason experience, which is crucial to the locker room. In seven postseason games, Davis has 22 receptions for 474 yards and six touchdowns with zero fumbles. Davis currently remains a free agent, but as camp continues, that could change. 49ers Drawing Attention From Notable Free Agent Wide Receiver
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. With training camp underway, the San Francisco 49ers are hoping to make a run back to Super Bowl contention. After missing the playoffs last season and being plagued by injuries, the 49ers want to emulate their success from two years ago when they made a run to the big game. Unfortunately, in that Super Bowl, San Francisco was unable to defeat Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. One of the big questions the 49ers are facing comes at the wide receiver position. Gabe Davis #0 of the Jacksonville Jaguars looks on during the fourth quarter against the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium on September 23, 2024 in Orchard Park, New York. While the 49ers have good players at the position, Aiyuk is still working his way back from a torn ACL and they don't have a lot of depth. To that end, it's possible that John Lynch could consider making a move to bring another wide receiver in. One name has shown interest in signing with San Francisco. Former Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Gabe Davis has been open about his interest in the 49ers. During an appearance on the "Up & Adams Show," Davis spoke out about San Francisco. "San Fran is definitely a spot I'm looking at," Davis said. "Shanahan's the man. He knows how to call an offense. They just got a lot of great weapons around there... Definitely a team that interests me because I like to be around great players." Read more: Browns Defender Shockingly Decides to Retire During Training Camp Last season with the Jaguars, Davis played in 10 games. He caught 20 passes for 239 yards and two touchdowns. Back in 2023 with the Bills, however, he racked up 45 catches for 746 yards and seven touchdowns. Davis has always been known as a deep threat. With Brock Purdy under center, he could be a big-time addition for the 49ers. Adding another big-play threat could be what takes the offense to the next step. Bringing in more quality weapons for a franchise quarterback like Purdy is always a wise decision. Davis is clearly interested in the opportunity. Lynch should seriously consider it. Experts say Kansas City Chiefs would be ideal 'landing spot' for these three free agents
The Kansas City Chiefs' roster will evolve over the course of training camp and the preseason, and the experts at Pro Football Network don't seem convinced that the reigning AFC champions are done making moves. In a recent article that predicted the landing spots for each of the NFL's best free agents, PFN identified three veterans who could become key contributors for the Chiefs next season. While Kansas City's front office has been hard at work hammering out deals to keep the Chiefs' biggest stars under contract for the foreseeable future — rather than acquiring new talent — fans shouldn't underestimate general manager Brett Veach's willingness to add free agents during training camp. Take a look at each of the veterans that PFN highlighted as potential fits for Kansas City, with their analysis about each player: WR Gabe Davis "Just one year into his three-year deal, the Jacksonville Jaguars released Gabe Davis after a disappointing 2024 season that ended in a season-ending torn meniscus. A lackluster Jaguars offense didn't do him any favors, but he still finished with a career-low 20 catches for 239 yards. Davis is only 26 years old, so he should have plenty of football left in him, even after his injury. He would be best suited in an offense that allows him to maximize his vertical capabilities. That said, keep an eye on some playoff contenders to consider him on a discounted one-year deal before he signs another contract next offseason." DB Justin Simmons "After eight seasons with the Broncos, Justin Simmons spent 2024 with the Falcons, finishing with 62 tackles and two interceptions in 16 games. It wasn't the All-Pro level of play he's displayed in recent years, but he was still a serviceable starter on the back end. As a four-time All-Pro and a two-time Pro Bowler, Simmons may want to look for a chance to win a Super Bowl in 2025. Philadelphia, Kansas City, and Buffalo are all perennial Super Bowl contenders, where he could push for a starting job. Though not at the same level, Carolina could give Simmons a good opportunity to start, as well." DB Julian Blackmon "Julian Blackmon turns just 27 years old in August, so he still has plenty left in the tank. He's a versatile defensive back who can cover as a deep safety and defend in the box at a pretty high level. He has seven interceptions between his last two seasons with the Colts. The aforementioned Eagles, Chiefs and Panthers could look at Blackmon on a one-year rental and see if he's capable of becoming a long-term answer for them at safety. Keep an eye on Dallas as a landing spot, as former Colts DC Matt Eberflus is now the defensive coordinator there."

NFL Insiders Disagree on Bills Ex Gabe Davis Signing Rumor with Steelers
NFL Insiders Disagree on Bills Ex Gabe Davis Signing Rumor with Steelers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There is a media debate about the Pittsburgh Steelers' next the rumors attached to it. Advertisement They made their biggest signing of the offseason with QB Aaron Rodgers coming to town to play his final season, hoping to guide the Steelers to their first playoff win since 2016. Of course, "biggest'' doesn't mean "only.'' Not around here. Not this offseason. After also trading for Seattle Seahawks star receiver DK Metcalf and acquiring cornerback Darius Slay from the Super Bowl-winning Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh this week did it again with the trade for cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith, late of the Miami Dolphins. So... are the Steelers done? We bet not, and here's why: DK's entrance coincided with the trade of George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys. So in a way, the wideout group is back to where it began the offseason on the perimeter. (We say that while understanding that Smith has a lot of offensive versatility.) Advertisement So ... what about veteran receiver Gabe Davis, who recently visited the facility in hopes of finding a spot in the passing offense. Amid rumors that it might be a match ... he left without a deal. While that doesn't necessarily mean he is removed from the team's plans, Steelers insider Mark Kaboly set the expectation for a potential deal. In short, he won't count on Davis being the late addition to the receiving corps. "I don't think it will be Gabe Davis," Kaboly said on 'Kaboly + Mack.' "I just got the feeling when I was there, and people were talking the other day. He just came in for a visit. A … visit like a mint on your pillow." Advertisement Now, ESPN has updated that info, saying that Davis might be a signing that happens according to a timetable for later in training camp, depending on how the incumbents work According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Davis is 'still an option' for Pittsburgh. So… which is it? Our view of Davis' big-play ability — well established when he was a Josh Allen playoff weapon with the Buffalo Bills but then lost last year in Jacksonville - is that it could be enticing for an offense that lacks potency outside of Metcalf. Robert Woods, Roman Wilson, Scotty Miller and Ben Skowronek are competing for boundary roles, and Davis, at his best, would add a downfield threat to that rotation. Advertisement In fairness, Davis was released just one season into a three-year deal with the Jaguars as he was tagged with a failed physical designation. A torn meniscus is complicating his free agency. "Maybe they were just trying to give him the once-over because of that knee," Kaboly said. "I don't know how aggressive they were in trying to sign him. I think they move on from Gabe Davis. I don't think we will hear from him again." Given the need at receiver, it's no surprise Pittsburgh gave Davis a look. But if he's not fully healthy, there's little reason for the Steelers to be interested, especially as Rodgers' preferences play into their late-offseason strategy. At least until later in training camp. Related: Packers Trade for T.J. Former NFL Quarterback Suggests Two Vet WRs for Titans to Add
Former NFL Quarterback Suggests Two Vet WRs for Titans to Add originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Tennessee Titans have bolstered their team this offseason with key draft picks and free-agent signings in areas of need. However, even with that, some still think they need more. Advertisement Former NFL quarterback Kurt Benkert is one of those who think the Titans need more, and he believes they need an addition at the wide receiver position. When speaking on the Bleacher Report digital platform, this is what he had to say and the players he mentioned. "Give me DJ Chark as a flyer to the Titans," Benkert said, via The Sporting News. "He's a guy who's always had potential but hasn't been healthy enough to stay on the field. Give him one more chance and see if Cam Ward can bring out the best in the former great LSU wide receiver. If they don't go the Chark route, give me the Titans to snag Gabe Davis on the flyer route again. He can be another veteran presence, maybe have a resurgence, for a rookie quarterback that will need some help." After the initial shock of Benkert mentioning Chark and Davis wore off, the thought of these two being on the team had to be examined. Upon further examination, it is not in the best interest of either of these two to be in the Titans' wide receiver room at this time. Tennessee Titans GM Mike BorgonziKirby Lee-Imagn Images First, health is an issue for both wide receivers at the moment. Davis missed the last seven games of the season with Jacksonville in 2024 with a torn meniscus in his left knee. Along with the surgery to repair the torn meniscus he suffered in November 2024, he also had some complications in recovery, and as of June 2025, he was still considered not ready to sign because of health reasons. Advertisement With that health risk out there, there would have been no guarantees he would have been healthy when the season started. And as for Chark, he has been a tantalizing physical talent throughout his career. However, he has never played a full season of games in his seven-year career. He only played in seven games last season while dealing with knee, hip, shoulder and groin injuries while playing for the Los Angeles Chargers. Along with the health issues, the issue of consistency is also present. Chark had an incredible second season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, the team that drafted him. He amassed 73 receptions for 1,008 yards and eight touchdowns in the 2019 season. However, aside from that season, he has only once reached over 700 yards receiving in his career, and has had a tendency to make plays sometimes but also miss them in other situations. Davis, on the other hand, can have great games where he shows up, but then he can be inexplicably absent from the impact stats in the next game. An example is his 2023 season with the Bills, where he had big games, such as his 12 receptions, 105 yards, and one touchdown performance against the Eagles in a loss. The following week against the Jets, he had zero receptions and yards despite playing 88% of the offensive snaps. This inconsistency is a defining characteristic of Davis's impact on the game and has been present throughout his career. Advertisement Davis and Chark are talented wide receivers, and some teams may take a chance on them. However, as far as the Titans, the focus now is on developing the young wide receivers, along with the veterans they signed, such as Cam Ward. And with the Titans, this seems to be the plan of action going forward.
