Joanna Gains Opens up About 'Tension' at Home Ahead of Major Milestone for Her Daughter

As Fixer Upper fans know, there's only one thing that Chip and Joanna Gains love more than shiplap, and that's their children. Which is why things are especially hard around the Gains compound right now, as yet another one of the couple's five children prepares to head off to college. Related: Vanessa Bryant Celebrates as Daughter Natalia Bryant Graduates From the University of Southern California According to Hello! magazine, 18-year-old Ella will be headed off to college in a few month's time, causing the interior designer to post a heartfelt message on Instagram over the weekend. The mother of five shared the message in an Instagram Story, which said, "The songbird must be so proud. She created a home and nurtured her babies and then ushered them to fly towards the big blue skies..." Okay, as a mom, this is really tugging on our heartstrings. But then the post continued, celebrating all of the mother "songbirds" out there who were experiencing the bittersweet pain that the Gains family is currently going through. "Praying for all you mamas who are planning and prepping for graduation. We did our very best," the post continued. "They will soar. May we hold gratitude for all that was and carry hope for all that's to come. Oh the tension and beauty in holding and letting go." Excuse us while we grab the tissues. This is hardly the first tearjerker of a moment for Gains and her husband. With senior prom only recently in the rearview, the mother of five has been all up in her feelings on Instagram, documenting all of those final moments with her daughter at home. But, as anyone who has followed the Gains family for any time knows, this departure will be a temporary one. That's because this close-knit family is unlikely to stay scattered to the wind for too long, so we imagine Ella will spend plenty of time running back home to see her mom and dad any chance she gets! Obama-confidante Susan Rice sacked by Pete Hegseth whom she calls 'dumb as a rock'

Susan Rice calls Pete Hegseth 'dumb as a rock' Amid many controversies engulfing Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth , one was the presence of former UN Ambassador Susan Rice in the Pentagon's Defense Policy Board . It was a mystery to many Republicans as to why the Obama confidante was still on the Board at a time when the department was fighting too many leaks. Her sacking was announced late Thursday evening with the Defense department issuing a statement that read, "changes are needed to support the new strategic direction and policy priorities of the department and to ensure departmental resources are used efficiently.' Rice was the US ambassador to the UN during Obama's first term and the national security adviser in his second term. She also spent two years as the director of the Domestic Policy Council under Biden and remained a board member of a Pentagon committee. Rice described Hegseth's leaks, including this week's news that he used an unsecured internet connection to run Signal on a personal computer in his office, as a 'huge breach of national security' that puts 'our men and women in uniform at risk.' Rice said Hegseth as a 'white male Christian cisgender macho MAGA man,' proves that it's possible that someone 'can be as dumb as a rock and be deemed qualified to serve as Secretary of Defense.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is There a Capital Gains Exemption for Seniors? SmartAsset Undo The Signalgate led to a mass exodus of staffers in his department. Trump has continued to back Hegseth - despite a department investigation into staffers leaking information - but Rice said Friday that he should be fired and went even further, saying he never should've been running the Pentagon. She slammed Trump for running the country 'as if he were a monarch and everybody is subservient to him, and anybody who criticizes or questions the actions or behavior of his team or himself are inherently the enemies.'

Riley Gaines comes to Mater Dei to speak on transgender athletes

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — 12-time NCAA All-American swimmer Riley Gaines spoke at Mater Dei High School as part of a Right to Life of Southwest Indiana event. Gaines tied with transgender swimmer Lia Thomas at the 2022 NCAA championships. Since then she's been advocating for barring transgender athletes from competing in girl's and women's sports. 'Really this was a less than average male swimmer competing at the Division One level, ranking in the four hundred and five hundreds nationally the year prior, to, just twelve months later, dominating the entire country of women,' said Gains. As Gains spoke inside Mater Dei High School, the conversation concerning transgender athletes in women's sports continues across the country. Even at the state house level where they are currently debating House Bill 1041. The proposed bill would limit participation in women's college athletics to only student-athletes assigned female at birth. Extremely similar to the new ruling from the NCAA in February and executive orders from President Trump and Indiana Governor Mike Braun. 'Biological males are inherently bigger, stronger, and faster than biological females. That is the basis for why they should not be able to participate in a classification for females,' says Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Nikki Cerbone. According to the NCAA there are 10 trans athletes participating at the division one level out of 500,000 total athletes. Those opposed to House Bill 1041 say that it is targeting a vulnerable group. 'I am here to talk to you as a parent to three children, one happens to be transgender,' says mother of a transgender athlete Beth Clawson. 'My daughter has loved playing sports until recently. She is now in middle school and won't play anything because one, she's not allowed to and two, because she feels fear. She has been told by most of the legislatures in this room that she doesn't belong there.' House Bill 1041 is still awaiting a vote. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. 'Larry Gains defeated some of boxing's legends - he deserves a statue'

The family of a heavyweight boxing champion say they hope their campaign to get a statue of him in Leicester will help secure recognition for his exploits in the Gains won bouts against boxing greats Max Schmeling and Primo Carnera during a 146-fight career between 1923 and in 1931 he won the British Empire heavyweight title in front of 30,000 fans at Leicester Tigers' Welford Road stadium."His record shows he was one of the great fighters of his era," his great-grandson Michael Gains said. "But despite that, not many people know what he achieved," he added."I never met him but I've heard all the stories from my dad."Larry faced discrimination and racism through his career."That included a colour bar that kept black fighters from competing for some world titles between 1911 and 1948."But he carried himself with dignity and became a respected figure, known for his resilience, sportsmanship, and gentlemanly nature."He never felt any bitterness about it." Gains was born in Toronto, Canada, in 1900 but moved to England in 1923, making the journey across the Atlantic on a cattle settled in Leicester in 1930 and trained at the now-demolished Jolly Angler pub in the city's Wharf Street."Larry made Leicester his second home," said Michael."He had three really big fights at Welford Road."During World War Two, Larry served in the British Army and was the president of the London Ex-Boxers Association from 1976 to 1983. "And he was also a close friend of the renowned writer Ernest Hemingway."His legacy has been acknowledged in Canada, where he was honoured as a National Historic Person, but in Leicester his story is a bit of an unknown."We want to put that right."Gains retired at the age of 40 with a record of 117 wins and 22 defeats under his belt - along with a handful of was inducted into the British Boxing Hall of Fame in 2023. Michael, from Cardiff, said he was in discussions with Leicester City Council about selecting an appropriate location for a planned 8ft (2.4m) bronze said he had been in discussion with a prominent sculptor and he planned to establish a charity, the Gains Heritage Foundation, to help raise money towards the costs. "It's going to take a lot of hard work, and we'll need to raise a lot of money but we are determined," he said.A petition has been launched to support the campaign for a statue in Leicester.A city council spokesperson said: "Larry Gains was a distinguished boxer and greatly admired by the people of Leicester, where he had made his second home. "His story is an inspiring one that deserves to be shared, and that's why he features on one of our heritage panels, located on Wharf Street, near the site of the Jolly Angler pub where he trained."We have received a submission from Mr Gains for a statue to be located in the city, and are currently considering his proposal."
