Tearful Rekha was reminded of her past while watching Richa Chadha's death scene in Heeramandi, Ali Fazal says she gave her the best compliment

Ali Fazal has often showered praise on wife Richa Chadha for her brief yet nuanced role of Lajjo in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's period drama Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, which dropped on Netflix India last year. Fazal recently confessed he initially thought he was biased because of his personal connection with Richa, but soon realized how her performance affected not just him, but everyone around him. 'It was absolutely wonderful. I'm such a fan! It's so interesting I was sitting at the premiere, where they do two episodes. So that's exactly when her part is till at. I was totally teary-eyed. I thought okay, maybe it's my bias,' said Fazal, referring to the death scene of Richa's character at the end of episode 2. In the interview with Galatta Plus, he continued, 'I look on my right, and there's Rekha ji in tears. Of course, she gave her the best compliment, 'Tumne humein humare zamane ki yaad dila di.' I remember she said that.' Interestingly, when Heeramandi was first conceived in the mid-2000s, Rekha was offered the role of Mallikajaan, the brothel madam eventually essayed by Manisha Koirala. In the show, Richa plays an unrequited sex worker who turns to alcohol after she's rejected by her love interest, played by Adhyayan Suman. In episode 2, after performing a long, evocative dance sequence in front of him and his guests at a mehfil, Chadha ends up dying on her way back in a carriage. Chadha referred to Lajjo as 'the female Devdas' and admitted she tried method acting by drinking some gin for her drunken dancing sequence. ' I tried drinking on the first day of my solo song, but it didn't work for me. I was better off pretending to be drunk than actually getting a little tipsy. It is a technical job, no matter how much I dance, my dress is so heavy, I have to hit that mark, interact. It was fun for me to do,' she told Zoom. Bhansali also recalled he got angry at Richa for not pulling off the emotion he wanted during that sequence. So he scolded her, post which she got the emotion right organically. 'The anger on her face was so special. That moment was a result of what I said to her and what she said to me. In all the songs I've shot, big numbers, this is one of the rare moments of the actor feeling the humiliation of the scene that she went through rather than feeling the humiliation of me getting angry and saying, 'How many takes will you want?,'' the director told India Today. Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan saw me freaking out on day 1 of Metro In Dino, recalls Ali Fazal: ‘The film is inside Anurag Basu's head, no one knows what's happening'

Anurag Basu is all set to return with the follow up to his 2007 romance anthology Life… in a Metro, Metro In Dino, slated to release in cinemas on July 4. It consists of almost an entirely new cast, including Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, and Ali Fazal. Fazal recently revealed he initially struggled with Basu's style of filmmaking. 'Basu sir has a very interesting way. The whole film is inside his head. So nobody knows what's happening. And that's another exhilarating experience because you don't know what's coming,' said Fazal, adding, 'I remember Adi (Kapur), Sara and all these guy are on set the first day, and they can see me freaking out! Kya karein, scene nahi hai (What to do, there's no scene paper). But that's how he works.' In the interview with Galatta Plus, Fazal explained further, 'The scene paper comes in very last minute. Of course, there's a whole script, and he's got the whole thing down.' But he also pointed out that nobody could access the full script because Basu's approach to Metro In Dino is quite different from its first part. 'This particular construction of Metro is pretty different. And I think for that very reason, he didn't want us to read the script. It really helped! When the film is out, I'd love to talk about it. It's surprising that even in a very light, romantic film, he's managed to bring his swing. And I enjoy that,' added Fazal. He claimed that collaborating with Basu can be both unsettling and rewarding. 'He pushes you! He'll throw in a word or an emotion, and just give me a little different perspective. Most times, when he gets it, he doesn't. That's another problem directors don't realize — Mani (Ratnam) sir, Basu, they are lovely directors, but actors love it when the director goes, 'Good!' But there's nothing. He just says, 'Next shot,'' said Fazal. Fazal will be next seen in his debut Tamil film, Mani Ratnam's crime thriller Thug Life, in which he stars alongside Kamal Haasan, Simbu, Trisha, and Nasser among others. The film is slated to release in cinemas next Thursday on June 5. Going back to Metro In Dino, Fazal revealed it's a musical so Basu works around that. For me, that's like nectar because then I can map everything. We don't use beats or rhythm much. That's the way I learnt. I never got to learn acting. Hence, Adishakti. It's the one place where I managed to learn anything. Which is why I keep going back there,' said Fazal, referring to Adishakti Theatre Arts, a laboratory for theatre art research based in Tamil Nadu.

Akshay Kumar Chopped Off John Abraham's Scenes In Garam Masala? Know Here

Priyadarshan said that John Abraham and Akshay Kumar had no grievances against each other. Akshay Kumar and John Abraham's comedy caper, Garam Masala, has secured a cult status among Bollywood fans today. The film was directed by Priyadarshan, known for comedy hits like Hera Pheri, Bhool Bhulaiyaa and De Dana Dan among others. When Garam Masala was released, there were reports that Akshay Kumar had cut John Abraham's scenes from the film to reduce his screen time. However, the director clarified that this was not the case. Priyadarshan said, 'Am I an idiot to let one of my actors make my film for me? This is nothing but a figment of a troublesome journalist's imagination. It may be some people's idea of publicity, not mine. I've been around for too long to let actors dictate to me." 'Akshay never showed the slightest inclination to invade John's territory. In fact, I've been in touch with John. Not once has he expressed any grievance against Akshay. So who are these people spreading these rumours?" the filmmaker asked during a 2005 conversation with Rediff. About Garam Masala Garam Masala is a 2005 Hindi-language comedy film directed by Priyadarshan, featuring Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Paresh Rawal, Rimi Sen, Neha Dhupia, and Rajpal Yadav. Released during Diwali, the film is a remake of Priyadarshan's own 1985 Malayalam film Boeing Boeing, which was based on the 1965 Hollywood comedy of the same name. The plot revolves around two photographers, Makarand 'Mac" Deendayal Chatpatiya (Akshay Kumar) and Shyam 'Sam" Salgaonkar (John Abraham), who are both womanisers. In a conversation with Baradwaj Rangan for Galatta Plus, Akshay Kumar was asked which film so far in his career was the toughest. Reacting promptly to the question, the actor stated, 'Toughest? Honestly, the toughest was Garam Masala! I used to pant while doing it because Priyan (Priyadarshan) sir used to take long, long shots." He added that shooting the film felt more like doing a play. The actor mentioned that, as per the storyline, many characters were performing together at one time, and therefore he found it to be one of the 'most difficult films to do". The film was a commercial success, grossing Rs 54.65 crore against a budget of Rs 17 crore. Akshay Kumar's performance earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Actor in a Comic Role. Garam Masala has gained a cult following over the years. First Published:
