Samsung's first Tri-Fold phone may launch this October under Galaxy Z branding, suggests report
Samsung's long-anticipated tri-fold smartphone is now expected to make its global debut by the end of 2025, with fresh reports suggesting it may carry the name Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold, marking its entry under the existing Galaxy Z series rather than launching a new lineup altogether. According to renowned journalist Max Jambor (@MaxJmb), the triple-screen foldable is likely to adopt the Galaxy Z TriFold branding. This aligns the device with Samsung's established foldable range, alongside the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip models, and indicates the company's intent to consolidate its multi-form factor devices under a single umbrella. Meanwhile, tipster Ice Universe, writing on Chinese social media platform Weibo, claimed that Samsung's tri-fold phone is scheduled for an October 2025 launch. This timeline would put it in direct competition with Huawei, whose Mate XT Ultimate Design successor is expected to be unveiled a month earlier, in September. The upcoming device, codenamed Q7M, is reportedly advancing towards mass production and could be unveiled as a limited release, according to sources familiar with the matter. It is said to carry the model number SM-F968. One of the key highlights of the tri-fold handset is its 9.96-inch display when fully unfolded, offering a near-tablet experience. In its folded form, the device is expected to present a 6.54-inch screen, making it usable as a conventional smartphone. Internally, the device may be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and is tipped to include a silicon-carbon battery, a newer technology that potentially offers faster charging and longer life compared to traditional lithium-ion cells. On the imaging front, the Galaxy Z TriFold could sport a triple rear camera setup and is expected to support 8K video recording at 30fps. The design is rumoured to feature inward-folding hinges, following a G-style folding mechanism similar to the recently showcased Tecno Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept.

Samsung may bring back S Pen support in future Galaxy Z Fold models
A built-in S Pen might not be off the table for Samsung's future foldables after all. While the recently launched Galaxy Z Fold 7 skipped stylus support — just like the Galaxy Z Fold SE from China — it looks like the company is still working on ways to bring the S Pen back, possibly with a dedicated slot inside the phone. This would be a big move for Samsung's foldable strategy, especially after rumours in recent years suggested the brand was moving away from integrating the stylus in its Z Fold lineup. Now, if a new report is anything to go by, the S Pen story might not be over just to South Korean publication ETNews, Samsung is actively exploring how to integrate the S Pen more seamlessly in future Galaxy Z Fold models. This wouldn't just mean compatibility with the stylus — it could also mean a physical space inside the device to store it, just like in the Galaxy S Ultra phones. That could be a huge deal for users who use the S Pen for productivity and creative tasks, especially on a foldable screen that can double as a context, Samsung added S Pen support to the Galaxy Z Fold series back with the Fold 3. However, due to the fragile nature of foldable displays, the company kept the S Pen as a separate accessory, never offering a built-in slot. It worked, but it wasn't the most convenient solution. Things took a turn in 2024 when the Galaxy Z Fold SE launched without any S Pen support, and the same was the case with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which came out just recently. While Samsung hasn't confirmed anything yet, the ETNews report suggests that improvements in display durability, digitiser tech, and compact battery design might finally allow Samsung to revisit the idea of a stylus slot in a foldable phone. Whether that ends up happening with the next Fold model or takes a bit longer, we'll have to wait and of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Samsung unveiled the phone alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Flip 7 FE earlier this month. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 offers a massive 8-inch AMOLED internal display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 2600 nits peak brightness. The outer display is 6.5 inches and is also AMOLED. It runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and comes with up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage. Camera-wise, you get a 200-megapixel main shooter, a 10-megapixel telephoto, and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide. There's a 10-megapixel selfie camera on the cover screen and another 10-megapixel one also IP48 rated, supports wireless charging, and packs a 4400mAh battery. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 starts at Rs 1,74,999 for the 12GB + 256GB variant, with higher-end models going up to Rs 2,16,999.- Ends

Samsung may reintroduce S-Pen support in foldables after Z Fold 7 snub: Report
Samsung may be preparing to bring back S-Pen support to its Galaxy Z Fold series in future iterations, following the stylus' conspicuous absence from the newly launched Galaxy Z Fold 7. According to a recent report from South Korean publicationETNews, the company is actively researching new technologies to make this possible. The development was reportedly confirmed by Kang Min-seok, Head of Smartphone Product Planning at Samsung, who allegedly revealed that the tech giant is working on next-generation S-Pen capabilities. The move is said to be part of a broader effort to improve the user experience on its foldable smartphones, with the possibility of even integrating a dedicated slot for the stylus in future models. This could mark a potential reversal in Samsung's recent trend of scaling back stylus-related features. The Galaxy Z Fold 7, which was officially unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event earlier this month, became the first book-style foldable from the brand in years to omit support for the S-Pen. Samsung defended the move at the time by pointing to low usage figures, claiming that less than one per cent of users made regular use of the advanced stylus functions. However, growing consumer demand and evolving hardware design may prompt a change in direction. Kang noted that the company is now focusing on achieving a better balance between form and function, rather than simply pursuing thinner and lighter devices. 'We are developing thinner and more innovative technologies for the S-Pen,' he reportedly stated, adding that the stylus will return once its functionality and integration reach a satisfactory level of refinement. While there is no official timeline yet, the comments suggest that Samsung has not abandoned its iconic stylus altogether. If these developments materialise, future versions of the Galaxy Z Fold could once again cater to power users and note-takers looking for productivity tools within a foldable format.

iPhone Fold could be cheaper than the Galaxy Z Fold 7 or 8
TL;DR Apple could achieve a lower manufacturing cost of the iPhone Fold, allowing for a price under $2,000. The iPhone Fold could cost about 4% less to manufacture than the China-exclusive Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition from last year. This is likely possible with smaller screens and less emphasis on sleekness than Samsung. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is an exquisite foldable phone, but its $2,000 price likely makes it undesirable to many. While Apple is expected to enter the segment in late 2026, it could surprise us with relatively more appealing pricing. Investment firm UBS recently shared an analysis of the iPhone Fold, including crucial information from the supply chain that could help determine the pricing of Apple's first book-style foldable. In a note titled 'Unfolding the implications of an iPhone Fold launch' (via Fortune), UBS analyst Jimmy Yoon predicts the potential bill of materials (BOM) for the book-style foldable version of the iPhone, which could impact its price. Referring to a Galaxy Z Fold SE (presumably, the sleek China-exclusive Special Edition that Samsung launched last year), Yoon notes the BOM was $790. Since the globally unveiled Galaxy Z Fold 7 features similar elegant hardware and a newer processing platform — the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, the manufacturing cost is only expected to have shot upward. Further, the rumored return of the S Pen next year could help Samsung justify an even higher price for the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Similarly, the upcoming Pixel 10 Pro Fold is also expected to be priced above $2,000. Comparing the Galaxy Z Fold with the awaited iPhone Fold, the analyst predicts that the latter's BOM could be roughly 4% lower, at $759. In comparison, the iPhone 16 Pro Max's BOM was estimated (via Apple Insider) to be only $485 at the time of its launch last year. The analyst says Apple is expected to save costs on the memory (or RAM), chipset, and camera modules. It could also ditch super-premium materials that would otherwise increase the manufacturing costs for the folding hinge and housing. For these components, Apple is rumored to rely on titanium for the frame and a mysterious 'liquid metal' for the hinge. Notably, Samsung uses an advanced aluminum alloy for the chassis. Meanwhile, the hinge is made from Grade 4 titanium, which is the strongest form of 'commercially pure' titanium and allows the hinge to be lightweight while ensuring the highest strength. Titanium grades 5 and upwards (which go up to 38) are available in alloy form and contain other elements such as aluminum, iron, vanadium, etc., which add more durability but also increase the weight. Based on the lower BOM, Yoon forecasts the iPhone Fold could be priced between $1,800 and $2,000, making it a tad more attractive than the Galaxy Z Fold 7. This estimation also beats previous analyses that suggested a much higher price for the foldable iPhone. Despite expectations that Apple will set a more attractive price for the iPhone Fold, Samsung is set to benefit from the launch initially, as one of the chief suppliers for foldable displays. LG's display arm may soon add to the supply, allowing Apple to diversify its pool of vendors. Other measures that Apple could take to cut back its production costs include opting for a smaller inner display and limiting back cameras to just two instead of three. Got a tip? Talk to us!
