Rangers vs Alloa LIVE score and goal updates from Premier Sports Cup last 16 clash at Ibrox
It's a first taste of domestic cup action for Russell Martin as he looks to reach the Premier Sports Cup quarter-final. It's been a mixed start for his Rangers side with two draws in the Premiership while in Europe they have navigated two rounds of qualifying to reach the Champions League play-off against Club Brugge. That big two-legged tie begins next midweek but it is all about the here and now as Alloa Athletic make the trip to Ibrox. The home support will be expecting a big win and a performance to match but the Wasps arrive in Govan off the back of a flawless group stage in the League Cup with four wins from four and they have a perfect record in League One after two rounds of fixtures. The last eight draw follows this one and with rivals Celtic already in the hat after thumping Falkirk, Rangers know they can't afford a repeat of the major Scottish Cup embarrassment they suffered at the hands of Queen's Park last term. 15:52Alan Galindo Danilo on early life under Russell Martin Danilo has opened up on early life under Russell Martin. The striker has goals and assists on his mind as he looks to get firing for Rangers this season. From day one, we have been speaking, and I have been asking a lot of advice about what I can implement on my game. He wants to help me a lot, especially with the way we play so I am just working for the team. That is where my head is at, and I just want to help with goals and assists. I want to sacrifice with the running, and we just fight together, and that is why we are a team. Rangers is all about winning and there is a lot of demand. Obviously, we don't want to lose, we don't want to draw, we always want to win, that is our mindset. We have been unlucky at the minute that we couldn't manage to make the result better, but it is early days as well. We need to take it day by day. The good thing at Rangers is that we always have the next day and another game, so we want to improve with what the manager wants us to improve and then we just focus on that. 15:45Alan Galindo The scene is set Ibrox is ready with kick-off just under two hours away. A place in the Premier Sports Cup quarter-final draw is up for grabs in Govan. 14:05Alan Galindo 'There'll be a chance for some players to play' - Russell Martin Russell Martin is set to give Rangers fans a first look at a few summing signings. The likes of Thelo Aasgaard and Mikey Moore are likely to come into contention with the games coming thick and fast for the Light Blues. The boss won't be taking Alloa lightly however and has vowed to put out a team that he thinks can 'win the game and want to win the game.' It's a game we want to win but also a game we need to balance. We had five games in 14 days. Some of the guys played a lot of minutes, so it's a chance for some people to get on the pitch. But we'll put a team out that we think can win the game and want to win the game. I'm looking forward to seeing some of those guys on the pitch. I really enjoyed training yesterday. The Tuesday game enables us to actually do some work on the training pitch which is nice. I'm looking forward to seeing them carry it out on the pitch. We're not going to make 11 changes. There'll be a chance for some players to play, but there are also ones that need to keep building and improving their performance. As a manager and coach, I need to look at my part in the Dundee one and perhaps we didn't get enough messages about that. We've done a lot of work on that since and hopefully we'll see that tomorrow. We first need to turn the game into that and work out ways to break them down. It's been good learning. We're so early on in the process that everything is going to be about learning. We always look at ourselves firstly as a coaching staff and really help the players as much as we can. I think we're really well prepared for tomorrow. 14:04Alan Galindo Predicted XI It's a hectic schedule for Rangers and Russell Martin in the early weeks of the season. Premiership, Champions League and now Premier Sports Cup duty means the games are flying in. The boss is likely to freshen things up and get minutes into those who need some action and a rest for others who have played plenty with one eye on Club Brugge on Tuesday night. 13:59Alan Galindo When is the last eight draw? It's last 16 weekend with holders Celtic already safely in the hat after dumping Falkirik at Parkhead. Four other ties are already underway and the fate of those matches will be determined before a ball is kicked in this one. The final two games will take place tomorrow after Dundee United and Hibs' European invovlement on Thursday. But the draw will take place AFTER the action at Ibrox so we will know the last eight line-up tonight.

Queen's Park vs Celtic LIVE score and goal updates from the friendly clash at Lesser Hampden
Football is back for Celtic as Brendan Rodgers' side kick off their pre-season fixture card against Queen's Park. It has only been a 41-day break for the Premiership champions with the Scottish Cup Final defeat to Aberdeen still fresh in the minds of the boss and players. But it's on to a new season and it's back to Mount Florida - but this time at Lesser Hampden to take on the Spiders. New manager Sean Crighton will be looking to make an early impression - with Queen's Park suffering defeat to Clyde in their only pre-season match so far. But for Callum McGregor and Co it's the start of a campaign where they will look to make it five league titles in a row - and seal a domestic clean sweep. The likes of Kasper Schmeichel, Alistair Johnston and Adam Idah are still to return to Lennoxtown after their summer breaks - and it's a chance for the Celtic' back-up brigade to catch the eye of Rodgers. 17:06Alan Galindo 'When you're a big club they're never friendlies' - Brendan Rodgers Brendan Rodgers has explained the role of the pre-season fixtures for Celtic. They are not long back at their Lennoxtown HQ with the champions set to get first taste of minutes in the legs at the city Stadium. It's then a trip to Ireland to face Cork City at the Pairc Ui Chaoimh. When you drive up the hill here at Lennoxtown and you smell the grass again, it excites you about the season ahead. In the early stages of pre-season, it's really about the physical preparation and getting the players prepared mentally. They don't come together as a group until later on, but we seen the benefits of a really good pre-season last year. And for us, from a tactical perspective, it gives us the opportunity as well to make little tweaks to keep improving and keep ticking away the unpredictability of the team. Pre-season is always a tense and difficult period when you're one of the big clubs because there are no pre-season friendlies. I always call them tests. When you're a big club they're never friendlies. Then you add in to that the qualification for the Champions League. That means that you're trying to get to the end point that little bit quicker, because it's something that's very important to us. So we'll take that last qualification round when it comes and hopefully we'll be in a really good place by that time. 17:00Alan Galindo Pre-season so far So for Queen's Park they have been back on the grass and got minutes in the tank in recent weeks. Sean Crighton's troops have already had three games so far to warm up for the campaign ahead. They are ahead in their preparations with the Premier Sports Cup kicking off next weekend. They started with a 2-0 win over Annan Athletic at tonight's venue before a Glasgow Cup defeat behind closed doors at Broadwood against Clyde. On Tuesday they made the short trip to Coatbridge with two seperate teams - 11 subs at the break - taking to the field. That clash with Albion Rovers ended in a 3-3 thriller. For Celtic, this is the first of a busy pre-season schedule that will see them take in plenty of action on the road ahead of the new campaign.

Waltham man found guilty of 2020 fatal stabbing on Halloween
A Waltham man has been found guilty of stabbing and killing his former housemate, Kevin Fitzgerald, on Halloween of 2020, according to the Middlesex District Attorney's Office. Jonathan Galindo, 38, was found guilty of second-degree murder and aggravated burglary following a three-week trial that began May 8, the DA's office said in a Friday news release. At 9:14 p.m. Oct. 31, 2020, Fitzgerald, 61, called 911 and told police he had been stabbed in his Waltham home and was dying, officials said. Police found him bleeding but conscious at the threshold of the home, and he told them he had been stabbed by a man wearing a ninja mask. Fitzgerald was brought to the hospital, where he died just after 10 p.m. He was stabbed three times in the chest, shoulder and thigh. An autopsy revealed that the chest wound, which punctured his lung, was fatal. At the home on Alder Street, police found blood, a knife, a fingerprint on the back storm door and a set of footprints in the snow leading to that door, according to the district attorney's office. Four days after Fitzgerald's death, police matched the fingerprint on the storm door to Galindo, who was Fitzgerald's former housemate and had moved out of the apartment that spring. DNA on the handle of the knife also matched Galindo, officials said. On Nov. 7, police received an arrest warrant for Galindo. They also found a black mask in his closet. Location data from Galindo's phone showed him at the Alder Street apartment on the night of Fitzgerald's death, officials said. The phone's internet search history also showed repeated searches for 'Any recent stabbings in Waltham last night?' the following day. A sentencing hearing for Galindo has been scheduled for 2 p.m. on July 15. 'Tourist go home': Canary Islands, Spain protests draw thousands
"Tourism is very important for the Canary Islands, but we have to realize that the collapse is total," Juan Francisco Galindo, a hotel manager in Tenerife, told Reuters. His father owns a small island property on which the local administration issued an expropriation order in 2023 due to the approval of a luxury hotel complex project. "Those 70 square metres (750 square feet) that they want to expropriate are all my father has. His health situation has deteriorated since this happened," he said. More than 1 million foreign tourists visit the Canary Islands each month, compared to a local population of 2.2 million, according to official data. New rules, bigger crowds: How to survive your 2025 European vacation Spain, which had a record number of tourist arrivals in 2024, expects even more visitors this year. Galindo said the number of hotel beds had tripled since the 1970s when the islands' infrastructure was built, leading to sky-rocketing housing costs, traffic jams and limited access to health services during peak tourism season Spain has witnessed several protests against overtourism in other popular holiday destinations, including Mallorca, Barcelona and Malaga. Similar demonstrations were held in the Canaries last year. Sirlene Alonso, a lawyer who lives in Gran Canaria, criticised the regional government's plans to build more housing instead of limiting tourist numbers. "The goal is not tourism quality, but that more and more tourists come. The number of tourists and people who come to live here is crushing us," she said. Canary Island officials travelled this week to Brussels to seek European Union funds for affordable housing in the region's outermost areas.

Bracing for summer crowds, thousands protest overtourism in Spain's popular Canary Islands
GRAN CANARIA, Spain – Thousands of people protested against mass tourism in Spain's Canary Islands on Sunday, urging authorities to limit the number of visitors to protect local residents from soaring housing costs, traffic congestion and overburdened services. Marching under the banner "Canaries have a limit," demonstrators took to the streets in all of the archipelago's main islands and in several cities in mainland Spain. Some chanted about the effects of tourism on water supplies.
