Mets' Carlos Mendoza goes berserk on umps during Subway Series ejection over questionable strike calls
Carlos Mendoza's displeasure with called strikes late in Sunday's Subway Series finale got the Mets skipper sent to the clubhouse early. Mendoza was tossed from the Mets' 6-4 loss to the Yankees in the bottom of the ninth after he loudly disagreed with home plate ump John Bacon's call on a 0-1 and 0-2 pitch to Luis Torrens that appeared to miss the strike zone both times at Citi Field. The SNY broadcast showed Mendoza yelling toward Bacon after the first strike call for several moments and getting more animated before the at-bat continued. Mendoza's blood pressure spiked again after Bacon called another low strike to complete the strikeout. Netflix fans 'devastated' by exposé on controversial American athlete
Netflix are streaming a new documentary as part of their Untold series that covers the legendary career of Brett Favre A fresh Netflix documentary has plunged into one of the most significant American sports scandals of the 21st Century. Currently available for streaming, this hour-long exposé is a must-see for football enthusiasts keen to understand how a legendary NFL player earned a shocking reputation. The latest instalment in Netflix's Untold series, The Fall of Favre delves into the allegations against star quarterback Brett Favre in distressing detail. Favre, a three-time MVP who steered the Green Bay Packers to remarkable success, has been at the heart of two major scandals over the past decade and a half. In 2010, the NFL probed his conduct following allegations that he had sexted and left inappropriate messages for Gameday host Jenn Sterger. He was found not to have violated the NFL's personal conduct policy, but was slapped with a fine of $50,000 (£37,000) for failing to cooperate with the investigation, reports the Mirror US. He was later linked to a scandal in the 2020s where $8 million (£6 million) meant for Mississippi welfare programmes instead ended up with Favre or causes he supported. He refuted these claims and initiated a defamation lawsuit against the State Auditor of Mississippi and two media personalities over their coverage of the allegations. Now, NFL fans can gain a deeper insight into the scandals as well as other contentious incidents involving Favre in the new documentary that poses the question of how his legacy as a football legend can still persist. A Letterboxd user gave a no-holds-barred assessment of the film, saying: "I will say this is one of the few Untold documentaries that doesn't go out of its way to make the athlete or the subject matter somehow look like the hero still or allow them to give their spin on everything. "It's a refreshingly honest look at a terrible person, something I didn't know the Untold series was capable of. It still falls into the trap of surface level investigative storytelling, never delving into actual investigation. But that seems to be the way they do things." On Reddit, a user expressed conflicted feelings about the documentary, noting: "I hate how much fun this guy was to watch only for him to be a complete a**hole." An individual on X (formerly Twitter) shared a personal letdown: "Brett Favre was my single favorite athlete as a kid. I loved watching him play football. Gunslinger. Blood and Guts. "It kills me that he was a terrible person the whole time. A genuine s***head through and through." While someone else proclaimed their disillusionment after watching the Netflix documentary on Favre: "Just finished watching the documentary about Brett Favre on Netflix. All respect I had for this Icon is gone. What a scumbag he truly was! #nfl." However, not all feedback was negative, as some fans accused the documentary of being unfairly biased against Favre, with comments found on X slamming it as a "smear campaign". Another X commentator was taken aback, claiming: "I can't believe the hit piece they put out about Brett Favre on Netflix today. What a hatchet job." Viewers now have the opportunity to watch and form their opinions on the controversial documentary streaming on Netflix concerning Favre's contentious past.

Taylor Swift and Hailee Steinfeld's secret beef? 'Bad Blood' resurfaces amid Josh Allen's take the pop star and Travis Kelce's relationship
Are the former besties Taylor Swift and Hailee Steinfeld still friends? (Getty Images) As football fans zeroed in on the AFC Championship clash between the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills, pop culture fans were equally intrigued by a subplot unfolding off the field — Taylor Swift and Hailee Steinfeld possibly cheering for opposing teams, with their romantic partners at the center of it all. With Swift dating Chiefs star Travis Kelce and Steinfeld engaged to Bills quarterback Josh Allen, fans couldn't help but wonder: are these former besties still friends, or has football drawn a line down the middle? Once squad sisters, now on opposite sidelines? Taylor Swift and Hailee Steinfeld go way back — all the way to the '1989' era when Swift's infamous 'Squad' ruled the pop culture scene. Steinfeld wasn't just a casual acquaintance; she was part of Swift's tight-knit circle, even making a cameo in the 2015 'Bad Blood' music video alongside Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid, and Zendaya. In those days, the two appeared inseparable, attending Hollywood events together and sharing unforgettable moments. Reflecting on joining Swift onstage during the '1989' tour, Steinfeld told Vogue, 'The whole show we were all super present so that we weren't going to be missing our cues… We got up onstage, we got off, and we looked at each other, and we were like, 'What the hell just happened?'' Signs of distance but still mutual admiration But even at the height of their public friendship, Steinfeld was candid about their dynamic. In a 2016 interview, she said, 'I think people think we spend a lot more time together than we actually [do]. She's amazing, though.' That subtle clarification hinted that while the two respected each other, they weren't as inseparable as fans assumed. In recent years, the two haven't been seen publicly together, but the respect still seems mutual. When Steinfeld got engaged to Allen in late 2024, both Swift and Kelce liked her Instagram post — a quiet digital nod that suggests there's no bad blood… at least online. While Steinfeld tends to keep a low profile at NFL games, fans speculated she might pop up in Swift's suite one day. The idea of two pop icons, once side by side on stages and red carpets, now supporting rivals from the stands, adds a dramatic twist to their long-shared history. Brett Favre's scandal-stained story gets raw and real in Netflix's ‘Untold: The Fall of Favre' trailer
Untold: The Fall of Favre explores Brett Favre's rise to NFL stardom and the scandals that shattered his legacy, questioning fame's role in enabling misconduct. (Credit: Netflix) Netflix 's Untold docuseries has never shied away from provocative storytelling, but its latest entry, Untold: The Fall of Favre , might be its boldest chapter yet. Scheduled to premiere on May 20, the documentary aims to unravel the legacy of NFL Hall of Famer Brett Favre — not by highlighting his iconic moments on the field, but by confronting the scandals that have come to haunt his post-retirement image. Netflix's 'Untold' doc dives deep into the Brett Favre scandal you weren't ready to see unfold The trailer, released Tuesday on X (formerly Twitter), gives a stark preview of what lies ahead. While many episodes of Untold have been accused of painting sympathetic portraits of controversial figures, this one takes a decidedly different route. It promises a deep dive into the more troubling aspects of Brett Favre's life — from allegations of sexual misconduct to a high-profile welfare fraud scandal in Mississippi. 'Champion. MVP. Hall of Famer. But that's not the whole story,' the trailer announces, setting the tone for a documentary less concerned with glory and more focused on accountability. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Google Brain Co-Founder Andrew Ng, Recommends: Read These 5 Books And Turn Your Life Around Blinkist: Andrew Ng's Reading List Undo Untold: The Fall of Favre | Official Trailer | Netflix At the center of one of the film's narratives is Jenn Sterger, a former Gameday Host for the New York Jets, who publicly accused Favre of sending her inappropriate text messages and explicit photos during his stint with the team in 2008. In the trailer, Sterger speaks directly and emotionally: 'Brett Favre ultimately destroyed my life… When someone shows you who they are, believe them.' Her presence isn't just symbolic — it anchors the documentary in lived experiences, providing a voice to those whose stories have long been overshadowed by Favre's legendary status. Another thread the documentary weaves is Favre's alleged involvement in the misappropriation of Mississippi state welfare funds — a scandal that shocked both the sports and political worlds. While Favre has denied any wrongdoing, the fact remains: over $1 million meant for the state's poorest citizens found its way into endeavors linked to the quarterback. Although no criminal charges have been brought against him, Favre was ordered to repay those funds, and a civil suit is still ongoing regarding the statutory interest. Director Rebecca Gitlitz emphasizes that this film isn't just a profile of scandal, but a challenge to how society treats fame and its fallout. 'This story about one of the greatest quarterbacks in history goes beyond touchdowns and epic wins,' Gitlitz says. 'It was made with the intention of laying out patterns of behaviors, told from the people who lived with the consequences of Favre's actions.' She further reflects, 'Ultimately, the film challenges all of us to consider when we let our heroes go too far, who is to blame? And when the dust settles, can we have honest conversations about the humanity of all of those involved?' These aren't rhetorical questions — they're confrontational prompts aimed directly at a culture that often chooses silence over scrutiny when it comes to beloved athletes. With appearances from NFL insider Peter King and former quarterback Michael Vick, The Fall of Favre builds a broader commentary on fame, power, and the price of looking the other way. The documentary is produced by EverWonder Studio, Front Office Sports, and Time Studios, and will be released alongside other hard-hitting entries, including features on the Liver King and the infamous Gilbert Arenas-Javaris Crittenton locker room gun incident.
