77-year-old man arrested after bank robbery in North County
ESCONDIDO, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A man suspected of robbing a bank Wednesday in Escondido was arrested.
Gary Smyers, 77, was identified as the suspect, the Escondido Police Department said in a news release. He was booked at the Vista Detention Facility on suspicion of robbery.
The incident occurred around 10:37 a.m. at a U.S. Bank in the 2300 block of East Valley Parkway.
Authorities say the suspect passed a note to the teller stating he had a gun and demanded money.

The teller gave the suspect money, who then left the scene driving a black Toyota Prius, according to police.
A patrol officer found a vehicle matching the Toyota Prius driving in the area of Rose Street and Valley Parkway in Escondido.
Authorities performed a high-risk stop and detained the driver who was the only person in the vehicle.
Police found the stolen bank money, demand note and mask inside the vehicle.
