Salford City appoint Gavin Fleig as new Chief Executive Officer

Salford City have announced the appointment of Gavin Fleig as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective October 1. Fleig joins Salford with over two decades experience working across talent strategy, multi-club operations and long-term football planning at the highest levels of the game, most recently with City Football Group. Salford believe Fleig's appointment will mark "the beginning of an exciting new era for the club and clear signal of the new ownership group's intent to bring in the best-in-class" to Salford. He will now be responsible for leading the strategic, operational, and commercial direction of the club, with a clear focus on delivering competitive football success, driving promotion up the ranks of English football, and establishing sustainable commercialization models for future growth. 'I couldn't be more excited to join Salford City FC at such an important moment," Fleig told the club's official website. "This Club is entering a new chapter with clear determination, and huge untapped potential. We want to build a club that competes fearlessly, first and foremost on the pitch, and extending throughout our business and community efforts to grow in the right way, with our dedicated fanbase at the heart of everything we do." SCFC Co-Chairs Declan Kelly and Lord Mervyn Davies added: "We are thrilled to welcome Gavin Fleig to Salford City Football Club. "His proven record of leadership, player development, and shared commitment to success perfectly aligns with our vision for the club. "His commitment to driving both competitive football and commercial sustainability will be instrumental as we push towards the next level of growth for SCFC." Co-owner Gary Neville said: 'Gavin has all the qualities we've been looking for – strategic, passionate, and forward-thinking. "His belief in the Club's potential aligns perfectly with our own bold vision. We have significant ambitions at Salford City, and with Gavin at the helm, we're confident we can deliver on them.'

Salford City appoint City Football Group executive Gavin Fleig as new CEO

Salford City have appointed City Football Group (CFG) executive Gavin Fleig as their new CEO. Fleig's arrival comes after a lengthy recruitment process including multiple candidates and follows Sir David Beckham and Gary Neville's takeover of the League Two club, as part of a new consortium, back in May. Advertisement The 45-year-old Englishman brings with him a wealth of experience after two decades working across the game, and the past 11 at CFG where he was responsible for overseeing talent strategy and player development pathways across their global network of clubs. He previously spent time at Manchester City, Newcastle United and Bolton Wanderers in various performance analysis and scouting roles. Fleig will take up his new position in October where he will be responsible for leading and driving the club's strategic and operational direction as they target promotion to League One and further up the English football pyramid. Beckham and Neville were already part-owners of the north west club — currently playing in the fourth tier in England — along with other former Manchester United team-mates, nicknamed the 'Class of 92'. After the initial 2014 acquisition, Salford enjoyed a spectacular rise that featured four promotions in five years but have been in League Two for the last six after first reaching the English Football League in 2019. Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs, Phil Neville and Paul Scholes relinquished their ownership stakes in May, with Declan Kelly, founder of U.S.-based advisory firm Consello, and Lord Mervyn Davies, chairman of the Lawn Tennis Association, now co-chairing a new-look board of directors. With Fleig's appointment, Jonathan Jackson is expected to revert back to his role as chief finance officer. Salford, who finished eighth and one spot outside of the playoff places in League Two last season, begin the new campaign at home to Crewe Alexandra on August 2. ()
