Did Texas A&M baseball make NCAA tournament? Aggies first preseason No. 1 to miss since 1991
Texas A&M baseball's disappointing season came to an end on Monday, after the Aggies weren't selected for the NCAA tournament. Texas A&M was not listed as a First Four Out team by the NCAA selection committee, either, meaning it was at least four teams back of being picked for the tournament. The NCAA tournament miss marks the first time the preseason No. 1-ranked team missed out on making the field since 1991. Advertisement REQUIRED READING: NCAA baseball selection show live updates for 2025 NCAA tournament bracket reveal The Aggies went 30-26 this season, finishing 11-19 in SEC play. They finished the season ranked 50th in RPI, one year after falling to Tennessee in the national championship. Texas A&M returned Gavin Grahovac, the SEC Freshman of the Year last season, and outfielder Jace LaViolette, a projected first-round pick, for 2025. However, it had to replace coach Jim Schlossnagle, who left the Aggies for Texas after the 2024 College World Series. Grahovac also went down with a season-ending injury early in the season, which was one of many injuries for Texas A&M in 2025 as Gavin Kash and Caden Sorrell also missed extended time. Pitcher Shane Sdao also missed the entire season after having elbow surgery last offseason, and designated hitter Hayden Schott played the entire year with a torn meniscus, similar to the injury he played through in the College World Series last season. Advertisement Regardless, it was quite the disappointing season for Texas A&M, who was expected to be a powerhouse this season under first-year coach Michael Earley, who was the Aggies' hitting coach in 2024. Did Texas A&M make NCAA baseball tournament? Texas A&M wasn't included in the 64-team field for the NCAA baseball tournament on Monday when the full bracket was revealed. Texas A&M also wasn't particularly close to being in the field, either, as it wasn't one of the First Four Out teams, according to the NCAA selection committee. The Aggies went 30-26 this season, finishing 14th of 16 SEC teams in the regular season standings. Texas A&M was also notably swept at home by Missouri this season, which marked Missouri's only three wins in SEC play this season. The Tigers were 16-39 on the year and 3-27 in conference play. Texas A&M's Gavin Grahovac had successful surgery and has started physical therapy
Texas A&M's Gavin Grahovac had successful surgery and has started physical therapy On Friday, it was reported that Texas A&M sophomore third baseman Gavin Gravhovac underwent successful labrum surgery earlier in the week. SEC Unfiltered's baseball analyst, Harrison Cordell Fant, confirmed that the SEC Freshman of the Year had his procedure completed by Los Angeles Dodgers team doctor Neal ElAttrache and has already started physical therapy. Prior to being shut down for the season, he played in six games and collected five hits, two home runs, and six RBI. In his absence, transfer Wyatt Henseler slid over to third base, and true freshman Sawyer Farr was inserted into the starting lineup at second base. Kaeden Kent took over as the leadoff hitter and has filled in admirably to sure up that spot in the lineup while coach Michael Earley works on finding a way to put his hitters in the best position to be successful. We wish Grahovac a speedy recovery and can't wait to see him on the field again. Texas A&M will be back on the field against New Mexico State for Game 3 on Sunday, March 9, at 1:00 p.m. CT. The game will be streamed on the SEC Network. Contact/Follow us @AggiesWire on X and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Texas A&M news, notes and opinions. Where LSU baseball ranks in every week three poll
We have entered week three of the college baseball season, and as usual, rankings aren't of the utmost importance this early in the season, but it is still interesting to see how teams stack up with one another. There is no unanimous No. 1 team in America as four out of five polls have the Texas A&M Aggies in first but the USA Today Sports Coaches Poll has the defending national champions, Tennessee, at No. 1. Speaking of Texas A&M, they just received awful news that their star third baseman, Gavin Grahovac, will be out for the season as he will undergo shoulder surgery. As for Tennessee, the Vols received great news that starting pitcher, AJ Russell, who they did not think would be back until April, is back and started against North Alabama Tuesday night. As for the LSU Tigers, they find themselves as the No. 2 team in two polls and the No. 3 team in three polls. LSU has taken a trip to Arlington, Texas to take on Dallas Baptist University on Wednesday at 7 PM. The Aggies will get a quick chance to get back on track when they host the Texas State Bobcats in a midweek matchup. The weekend starting pitchers have been extremely solid to start the year and on Tuesday night we'll get the first look at true freshman Aiden Sims who will get the start. Unfortunately, the Aggies will be without sophomore star third baseman Gavin Grahovac for the remainder of the season adding to the list of injuries suffered for the 2025 team. luckily for coach Michael Earley, he has a deep team and the ability to manipulate the lineup to help stem the tide. These teams have a rich history that dates back to the late 1980s. A&M currently holds a 49-14 series advantage winning nine of the last ten games played between the two. The Bobcats have already pulled off a top 25 upset this season beating No. 19 Oklahoma State while A&M is coming off a loss to Cal Poly in Game three of their series where they struggled offensively.
