No permanent faculty & VC affect work in Khallikote univ
Bhubaneswar: Khallikote Unitary University (KUU), Berhampur, does not have a permanent vice-chancellor (VC) or a single permanent faculty member though it has 112 sanctioned posts. Currently, guest faculty run the show. With no permanent faculty, research could not be started in the university. The century-old Khallikote Autonomous College was upgraded into a cluster university on May 30, 2015, by taking five colleges from Berhampur University. Later, it was converted into Khallikote Research Intensive University. The govt again renamed it as Khallikote University. Finally, it was declared Khallikote Unitary University on Aug 1, 2021, without having any affiliated colleges. "Even the University Grants Commission (UGC) got confused after finding several forms and names of a university. It could not issue recognition under section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956 for quite some time. Finally, it got this recognition in August last year after submission of proper documents. But it is the most neglected university of the state," said a university official. The tenure of Prafulla Kumar Mohanty, former VC of KUU, ended on Jan 30, 2024. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 전립선비대증.. 2주간 "사군자추출분말" 먹었더니.. 남성기능 20대처럼 복구했다! 전립선 관리법 Undo Berhampur University vice-chancellor Geetanjali Dash was appointed as in-charge of this unitary university. Mohanty told TOI that a land patch given for KUU's campus was surrendered to the govt. "Now the university is functioning from the erstwhile Khallikote Autonomous College campus. The existing campus does not have enough space for expansion. If the govt hands over the OSRTC depot of around two acres beside the college, it will immensely help KUU. We wrote letters to the govt about this, but nothing materialised," he added. He said an acute shortage of non-teaching staff is another problem of the university. "Research is a non-starter here due to lack of permanent teaching staff. It is relying entirely on guest faculty members and teachers from the erstwhile Khallikote Autonomous College. Infrastructure inadequacy should be resolved too," he added. Dash said the university needs to get recognition under section 12 (B) of the UGC Act to receive central assistance. "But there is a problem in this. This university has to get NAAC accreditation to apply for this recognition. Before we submitted the proposal, the NAAC closed its portal for receiving applications," she added. She said a big PG hostel having 28 rooms is in a dilapidated condition. Its roof and walls have cracks. "We have taken a decision not to allow any student to stay in the hostel from this academic year. We have some old buildings, and they need renovation," she added.

BU gets Prakriti Mitra award for green campus drive
1 2 Berhampur: State govt has recognised the green campus drive launched by Berhampur University by selecting it for the Prakruti Mitra award for 2024-25. Berhampur is the only university among 185 awardees. The award is presented to organisations, including several schools, colleges, volunteer organizations and individuals for their contribution towards the protection of environment, plantation and conservation, among others. Out of the 185 awardees, Ganjam district has the highest of 21, including Berhampur University, Indian Coast Guard, Chhatrapur and Rushikulya sea turtle protection committee. A cash award of Rs 20,000 and a certificate would be presented to each awardee. "We are happy as the govt recognised our drive for a green campus. The award will encourage students and teachers to participate in the drive," said Geetanjali Dash, vice-chancellor, Berhampur University. "We have planted over 2,000 saplings of 185 species on the campus as part of the drive," said Padmalochan Murmu, assistant professor of botany and coordinator of the drive. He said they have planned to plant all 5,370 species available in the state on the campus in the next two years. "Plantation of all species will not only make the campus green, but also help researchers and students, especially botany, to study the plants," he added. Centre has sanctioned around Rs 32.48 lakh to the university for conservation and multiplication of selected threatened endemic plants of south Odisha. The ministry of environment, forests and climate change has released Rs 11.36 lakh — the first instalment of the three-year project — to the university through Botanical Survey of India (BSI) recently, sources said. "Under the project, the university will develop a botanical garden of rare, endangered and threatened plant species in around 4 acres of land," said Dash.

Govt sanctions Rs 2.20cr for building boundary wall of BU hostel
Berhampur: State govt has sanctioned Rs 2.20 crore for the construction of the outer portion of the compound wall of the boys' hostel in Berhampur University, which was demolished for expansion work of the Rangeilunda airport. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The commerce and transport department had written to the director of civil aviation, Bhubaneswar, regarding the administrative approval of the funds for the construction of the boundary wall of the university hostel. The was recently communicated to the university vice-chancellor Geetanjali Dash. University authorities urged the govt for the construction of the boundary wall of the hostel for the safety of students. The authorities had sought Rs 8.71 crore from the govt for construction of the over 1-km boundary wall and some other facilities like a room for a security guard and drainage. As the hostel is without a boundary wall, its inmates alleged that animals, especially cows, entered from the back of the hostel. The hostel has around 200 boarders. The university relinquished 25.672 acres of land for the development of the airportp last year under the direction of the govt. "As the construction of the airport is underway, a large number of trees were cut down. The trees served as the natural boundary for the boys' hostels, which were situated on the other side of the proposed airport," an officer said. "We thanked the govt for sanctioning the funds for construction of the boundary wall for the hostel, realising the problem of the inmates," said the VC. "We hope the work will be completed before the admission of newcomers in the hostels this year," she added. Sachidanand Nayak, university registrar, said they would once again write to the govt for the construction of boundary walls, sewerage system and other facilities in some other hostels.
