Google is testing a cooler, darker design for Gemini Live's overlay (APK teardown)

Mishaal Rahman / Android Authority TL;DR Google is testing a visual refresh for Gemini Live's compact overlay in the latest app beta. The redesigned UI includes rounded corners, smaller icons, and a dark background. The corner widget has also been updated to be circular with a more vibrant waveform. Google isn't done refining the Gemini Live experience. Following last month's reveal of a more compact overlay interface, we've now uncovered some potential visual updates to that same UI. In our opinion, they make a big difference. Authority Insights story on Android Authority. Discover You're reading anstory on Android Authority. Discover Authority Insights for more exclusive reports, app teardowns, leaks, and in-depth tech coverage you won't find anywhere else. An APK teardown helps predict features that may arrive on a service in the future based on work-in-progress code. However, it is possible that such predicted features may not make it to a public release. Enabling a set of flags in version of the Google app beta allowed us to preview the cooler, more polished take on the compact Gemini Live overlay. Functionally, this is still the same compact bar UI that lets you start or manage Gemini Live conversations without opening the full-screen interface. It includes the same quick-access shortcuts for things like camera and file uploads. The difference you'll notice is the visual redesign, with slightly downsized icons, rounded corners, and a dark-mode-style background in keeping with the Gemini color scheme. The screenshots below show the changes. Old UI New UI The minimized floating widget has also been refreshed with the same palette, although it's not as much of a redesign from the old version. The two main differences you notice are that the widget is now circular rather than a square with rounded edges, and the white waveform on the dark background is a little more vibrant. You can compare the two below. Old UI New UI As with all APK teardowns, these changes may never make it to a public release. That said, the new Gemini Live overlay looks so much better that we'd be surprised not to see it roll out in a future beta. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . Microsoft tests Copilot Vision desktop share in Windows 11 Insider Build: Here's what's new

Microsoft is testing a new Copilot feature in the latest Windows 11 Insider build called Copilot Vision. It allows Copilot to view your entire desktop or specific app windows and respond in real time based on what's visible. Earlier, it could only compare two apps side by side. Now it can work across your full screen to offer broader assistance. Copilot can answer questions, suggest improvements, and guide you through tasks based on what's on your screen. Microsoft says it may assist with things like editing your resume, offering feedback on creative projects, or helping you navigate a new game. The feature is similar to what Google's Gemini Live and Apple Intelligence are beginning to offer. Copilot Vision allows the assistance to access and interpret the visible content on your screen in real time. It helps you with what you are working on, reads that content and offers relevant suggestions, summaries or whatever you ask. For example, suppose you have a PDF document open on your computer screen, you can ask Copilot to summarise it or tell main points of the content. If you are working in an Excel sheet, Copilot might help you spot errors, generate new formulas, help you in solving your issues with quick formulas, and compare values in a table without needing to describe the sheet. When browsing the web, it could highlight product differences or summarise a long review page. All of this happens through screen context, reducing the need to switch apps or copy and paste information. Importantly, this feature uses screen capture permissions, and Microsoft says Copilot only accesses your screen after you give permission. You also have full control over what it sees and when it stops. Now these will help you understand better how Copilot Vision helps you in real life. Document review: Copilot can pick out key terms or show what's changed in a contract, so you don't have to scroll through the whole thing. Spreadsheets: It can look at your sales data and give quick insights, fix errors, or turn numbers into charts right on your screen. E-commerce: Compare specs of products side by side directly from your screen without searching again. Email writing: If you have a report or slide deck open, Copilot could help draft a quick summary to send to a colleague. Troubleshooting: If you are stuck on a system setting or error screen, Copilot could explain the issue or offer a fix based on what's visible. The new Desktop Share feature makes it possible for Copilot to view your screen in real time and respond to you based on what is on the screen. To enable this feature open the Copilot app and click the glasses icon. From there, choose which part of your desktop to share. Once active, you can ask questions like 'What does this error mean?' or 'How do I create a table in Excel?' and Copilot will respond based on what it sees. You can even stop sharing any time by selecting the "Stop" option in the same panel. You can also activate the Vision using your voice, thanks to its feature called Voice Conversation. You can verbally say your request and Copilot will respond using visual content on the screen. Copilot listens and responds based on what's on your screen, without needing to type or click. Microsoft has added a Highlights feature that shows helpful tips based on the apps, files or websites you are using without you having to ask. Copilot Vision stands out by removing the need to type long prompts. It sees what's on your screen and helps right away, making it feel more like a built-in assistant than a chatbot. Unlike screen sharing or remote tools, it works locally and is just for you. The feature is still in testing with no set release date, but Microsoft is clearly moving toward assistants that respond to both what you type and what you see on screen.

Gemini Live for Android updated to fix blurry video, remove swipe-to-launch gesture

Google has released a meaningful update to Gemini Live on Android, introducing two key changes and a subtle visual refresh focused on improving real world usage. The most important fix addresses a long-standing issue with blurry video during live camera sharing. With this update, video in Live mode is now noticeably sharper. This helps users who rely on visual input like showing a document, product label, or receipt to get clearer responses from Gemini, without the assistant struggling to identify details due to poor image quality. Another key update is the removal of the swipe-to-launch gesture. Previously, swiping from the side would open Gemini Live, but this often happened by mistake. To fix this, Google has removed the gesture and kept the corner button to launch Live mode. This makes it easier to control and helps avoid accidental openings. There is also one more minor visual update worth noticing. You must have seen the waveform during Live interactions which has now changed from purple to a brighter blue. While this is a cosmetic tweak, it gives the interface a more professional and refined appearance. This change is being introduced in stages, beginning with those using the beta version of the app. These updates may seem minor on the surface, but they directly improve how people use Gemini Live in everyday situations. Clearer video means the assistant can better understand and read what's in front of the camera. For example, if someone is trying to return a product, they can hold up the receipt and ask Gemini for help. With sharper video, the assistant can easily pick out dates, barcodes, and product names, something that wasn't possible before. The gesture removal also helps. While some users appreciated the quick swipe action, many found it triggered Live mode unintentionally. Relying on the corner button keeps activation deliberate and avoids disruption during browsing or multitasking. The update is being rolled out through the Google Play Store. App users should check for the latest version of Gemini app on their Android devices. Once it's installed, Live mode can be tested immediately by opening the camera and observing the video clarity during use. Some people using Android had reported blurry video issues that affected how well Gemini Live worked during conversations. Google has now rolled out a fix that improves camera clarity. If you're still facing problems, you can report them in the app. Just open the profile menu, scroll down, and tap on Feedback. Adding clear details will help Google look into the issue and fix it faster. Sharper Live video: Fixes blurry feed during camera sharing. Gesture removed: Swipe-to-launch disabled; use corner button instead. Visual tweak: Waveform colour changed from purple to blue. Other features remain intact, including continuous voice input, screen sharing, and real-time assistant capabilities. This latest update shows that Google is responding to day to day usage feedback rather than just pushing features. Gemini Live now feels less like a test run and more like a solution people can actually count on. The crisper video makes a big difference, not in a flashy way but in the kind of way that just works better. If you've ever held up a receipt or scribbled note and watched Gemini struggle to respond, the difference will be clear. It now handles visual input with more ease, gets things right more often, and most importantly, stays out of your way when not in use.
