Christina Aguilera fans hardly recognise star as she debuts new look and 'ages backwards'

Pop star Christina Aguilera has been flooded with compliments as she looked just like she did when she shot to fame 25 years ago as fans says she is aging backwards Christina Aguilera has surprised her fans with her new appearance as they say she is aging backwards. The pop star, 44, showed off her new style as she took part in a photoshoot. She appeared to reference her early career as she rocked a dark smokey eye while rocking a gold mini dress. Christina's blonde locks were backcombed and tousled as she held them up in her hands. The Lady Marmalade hitmaker shared a behind the scenes look at the shoot, which showed her styling many different looks. She wrote: "work & play," alongside the post as she gave fans a tease at the upcoming photos. ‌ ‌ Her followers were quick to compliment the star, with many referencing how she appears to not have aged a day. One said: "Oh she's a MODEL, she looks like Christina Aguilera 1999." Another added: "HOW IS SHE BENJAMIN BUTTONING? I've always been such a huge Christina fan and it's been so nice to see her look so happy, healthy and THRIVING lately and this shoot is SO GORGEOUS." Someone else commented: Queen looking freshhh." A fourth wrote: "Queen aged so well." Another gushed: "Flawless, ageless, eternal Queen." Christina has long been open about her body image as a public figure. During the pandemic, she dropped 40 pounds (18 kgs) through a combination of diet, exercise and lifestyle changes. However, the Genie in a Bottle singer revealed she has not always been as body-confident as she is today. In 2021, the five-time Grammy winner opened up about the pressures she felt about her appearance during the 90s. Speaking to Health Magazine, she admitted: 'I have a hard time looking at the early pictures of myself because I remember feeling so insecure.' ‌ Christina heartbreakingly confessed that she really struggled with body image throughout her twenties. She said: "I would never want to relive my 20s — you're so in your own head and finding your confidence.' Last year, Christina had unwanted attention as she was accused of using weight loss drugs. She was at workout studio Barry's Bootcamp in West Hollywood to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her self-titled debut album. ‌ The mother-of-two rocked a black bodysuit with thigh-high boots for the event, and her appearance was filmed and shared on social media, prompting an outpouring of messages from her fans. It left Christina issuing a statement where she said her recent weight loss had nothing to do with focusing on 'being skinny'. She said her mental health had been impacted due to being targeted for her petite frame when she burst onto the music scene 25 years ago. 'When you're a teenager, you have a very different body than when you're in your 20s. I started to fill out, and then that was unacceptable because it was like, 'Oh, she's getting thicker.' "Then I had industry people: 'They liked your body and how you were as a skinny teenager',' Christina shared.

Christina Aguilera's Stripped retrospectively reviewed: The most drastic, effective reinvention in pop

At the turn of the millennium, teen pop was dominating the charts like never before. The sugary-sweet sounds of hits like Britney Spears's 'Oops!… I Did It Again' and *NSYNC's 'Bye Bye Bye' were in. It was bubblegum pop with added E numbers. Christina Aguilera's 1999 self-titled debut was an example of this, launching the Disney alumnus onto the world stage with 'Genie in a Bottle' and 'What a Girl Wants'. She established herself among the likes of Jessica Simpson and Mandy Moore as a new teen idol, all of whom were being moulded to Britney's girl-next-door image. It was these comparisons that made Aguilera want to break away from her contemporaries and showcase her true identity on Stripped. It was Aguilera's fourth overall studio album, but second English-speaking, non-Christmas effort. Lead single 'Dirrty' featuring Redman was the general public's first proper re-introduction to 'the new Xtina'. Gone was her cookie-cutter, virginal image in favour of an edgier, more original look and sound. It was a shock and largely criticised; misogyny in the media was at fever pitch during the early 2000s. However, the single and accompanying music video was, and still is, a thrilling piece of pop. It's arguably the most drastic and effective reinvention in pop, long before Miley Cyrus ditched her good girl image for Bangerz. Lyrically, the track is a sexually charged romp with hard hip-hop sensibilities. It flopped in the US, reaching number 48, but hit number one in the UK and the top 10 in several other countries. To this day, it's guaranteed to get any party started. Follow-up single 'Beautiful' couldn't have been more different, however. The tender piano ballad is a defiant statement for self-empowerment: 'You are beautiful no matter what they say'. Written by 4 Non Blondes's Linda Perry, the track was immediately adopted as a queer anthem. The accompanying music video also reflects this, featuring a same-sex couple and a transgender woman overcoming adversity and self-doubt to live authentically. While accepting the Special Recognition Award at the 14th GLAAD Media Awards, Aguilera said of 'Beautiful': 'This song is definitely a universal message that everybody can relate to — anyone that's been discriminated against or unaccepted, unappreciated or disrespected just because of who you are. It was so important to me that I support the gay community in this sense.' It has become one of the singer's signature tracks. 'Fighter' continues the theme of self-reliance, this time in a toxic relationship. Aguilera adopts a different sound yet again, this time taking inspiration from Guns N' Roses and stadium rock. It's a biting 'fuck you' to a cheating lover and an ode to the strength that comes from walking away. The album's lead single had been something of a red herring. While the album did speak of sexual liberation, the title Stripped speaks more to the baring of Aguilera's soul — as the latter singles demonstrated. This misconception perhaps muddied the understanding of what the singer was trying to achieve at this particular point in her career. On tracks like 'The Voice Within' and 'I'm OK', Aguilera is at her most introspective and vulnerable. It's these expressions of feeling like an outsider or facing trauma that helped Aguilera connect with her LGBTQ+ fanbase on a meaningful level. Despite being a pop pin-up, she felt just as insecure as the rest of us. Stripped stands up as Aguilera's most cohesive body of work and one of her most commercially successful. The album hit number two in the UK and US and top 10 in most of the world. In 2022, it was certified 5x Platinum. She would continue to have success in music, with hits such as 'Ain't No Other Man' and the cult classic 'Not Myself Tonight'. Aguilera would also appear alongside fellow gay icon Cher in the 2010 movie Burlesque. Aguilera has continued to show unwavering support for the LGBTQ+ community throughout her career. Following the tragic Pulse nightclub shooting in 2016, the singer released the one-off single 'Change', dedicated to the victims. Proceeds from it were also donated to the victims' families. Speaking to the US's She Magazine in 2012, Aguilera said of her queer fanbase: 'I cannot express in words how much the LGBT community means to me. On my darkest day, their support lifts me up. I feel honoured that some of my songs become anthems to them as well.' Kimberly Wyatt believes Christina Aquilera has earned the right to be a diva

Kimberly Wyatt says Christina Aguilera has earned the right to be a diva - because she is so talented. The 43-year-old singer-and-dancer "spent a lot of the time" with the 'Genie in a Bottle' hitmaker when Kimberly's girl group the Pussycat Dolls opened her 'Back to Basics' tour in 2007, and the 'Don't Cha' singer was in awe of her vocals and although Christina "might be a bit of a diva" she has the talent to back up the attitude. Speaking to the UK edition of Closer magazine, she said: "I spent a lot of time with her. "She's an interesting human, but I have such an appreciation for her talent. "She's one of the best voices of our generation - standing next to her and hearing her sing, the strength in her voice is the real deal. "She might be a bit of a diva, but you know what? She can have it." The Hits Radio DJ has "so many brilliant memories" of the 18 years - on and off - she spent in the Pussycat Dolls, such as when she "did a kick line with Jack Black" and saw Snoop Dogg "dressed as Santa Claus - called Santa Bizzle". Kimberly - who was in the Pussycat Dolls with Nicole Scherzinger, Ashley Roberts, Jessica Sutta, Melody Thornton and Carmit Bachar - revealed: "I have so many brilliant memories, like performing at The O2 and seeing over 10,000 people sing 'Stickwithu' with their phones up in the air - I still have that little snapshot in my head, it's just unforgettable. "Way back in 2002, I did a kick line with Jack Black while dressed as a popcorn kernel for the MTV Movie Awards! "The amount of experiences I had just because I've been in and amongst all these people. "Snoop Dogg dressed as Santa Claus - called Santa Bizzle - I mean, that's a memory!" Kimberly - who has three children with her husband Max Rogers, Willow, 11, Maple, nine, and Ford, six - reunited with her 'Jai Ho! (You Are My Destiny)' bandmates in 2019, and was set to go out on the road with them again for a Greatest Hits world tour the following year, but it got cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nicole confirmed it had been cancelled via an Instagram post, citing "evolving circumstances", and Kimberly - who was on ITV1's 'Dancing on Ice' at the time of the announcement - was "in tears" after she found out from Google and fan messages because of "the amount of sacrifices we'd all made to make it happen". She told the Mirror: "I'll never forget, being on that main stage ice, getting ready for one of our first live shows and getting the news from Google and fans saying 'It's been cancelled!' – I was in tears, I couldn't believe it, the amount of sacrifices we'd all made to make it happen to have it ripped from our hands was devastating, I still feel devastated."

Review: Christina Aguilera revisits 26 years of hits with her unmistakable vocals and high-energy performance

The world has seen many versions of Christina Aguilera over the years: as a child star of The Mickey Mouse Club, as a doe-eyed young pop sensation, as the bold and unapologetic Xtina, and finally, as a seasoned veteran songstress. As Aguilera returned to Abu Dhabi for the first time in 17 years, performing at Saadiyat Nights on Saturday, she brought versions of those past selves with her and performed a one-hour and 15-minute show that featured some of her greatest hits. The six-time Grammy winner took to the stage at 9.15pm, kicking off the night with an energetic rendition of her 2002 track Dirrty, electrifying the sold-out crowd from the get-go. She then transitioned to a shortened version of Can't Hold Us Down before performing her 1999 debut single Genie in a Bottle, another crowd-pleaser which raised people from their seats to dance along. However, this enthusiasm highlighted one of the evening's few drawbacks: the intimate, open-air venue wasn't designed for standing audiences, as it risks obstructing the view for those behind. This meant that security and staff spent much of the night urging people to remain seated even though both Aguilera's energetic performance and impressive discography made it difficult to do so. Regardless, Aguilera powered through two decades worth of hits. This includes What a Girl Wants, Moves Like Jagger and Feel This Moment, the latter two in which she collaborated with Maroon 5 and Pitbull. And while her vocals impressed during each song, she understandably had some breaks in between. Even during those brief intermissions, the audience remained entertained by the dynamic performances of her dancers. After the first such break, Aguilera returned to perform her Spanish-language track Santo, and her electro synthpop songs Bionic and Vanity, complete with lasers and smoke machines. She brought back the hits with Ain't No Other Man and Candyman before shifting the mood. Aguilera took a moment to speak to the crowd, reflecting on the song she was about to perform next. 'It's a song for when you're at your most vulnerable, when you're not afraid to ask the universe for help and guidance in searching for what's next,' she said. 'And whatever that may be, for each and every one of you out there, I know we all have something we're dealing with in our daily lives, something we may be struggling with … because things get complicated. Just know that hope is always around the corner.' The music video for Say Something, her 2013 duet with A Great Big World, then began to play. She watched the opening moments alongside the crowd, facing the big screen behind her before turning around to deliver a tender performance. After the emotional track, there was another dance break as her dancers and backup singers prepared to transition to the next song. Next up the singer played tribute to her acting and musical career, singing Show Me How You Burlesque and Express, two tracks from the Burlesque soundtrack, a 2010 film Aguilera starred in alongside Cher. The evening's momentum just kept growing. Aguilera proclaimed, 'You know this!', as the snappy opening lines of Lady Marmalade got crowds on their feet once more, the willing audience singing and dancing along. She closed the show as powerfully as she began, revisiting songs that helped shape her career. This included performances of Beautiful and Fighter from her 2002 album Stripped. Throughout the night, Aguilera took fans on a journey through the many phases of her career, performing songs from the past 26 years. As she closed with Let There Be Love, one thing was clear: no matter the era, her powerful voice has remained the same – and it's just one reason why she is so beloved by her fans.
